Around the NFL: News and Rumors

i wonder if qb is in play for the pats now - they have a backup spot they need to improve and i wonder if they spend a 1st on a qb to get 5 years of control in stead of just 4 and that way they lock down the backup spot for the rest of brady's career and hopefully have an heir apparent like jimmy g was supposed to be

That's what Im starting to think. Pats jump their division rivals, trade with Giants to 2 and get Brady's successor?

Did they already pay donald? If not how are they gonna pay him, gurley and goff, especially if wins a SB

the rams have the future space to do a load of deals for their best players
they absolutely will be able to pay donald and gurley (and goff they still have 3 years where they dont need to pay him), theyve probably got enough to pay peters too as well as joyner who they franchised

suh is likely a 1 and done player, talib likely isnt there for long

they dont have the ammo to get that high - but i wonder if they move up high enough to make sure they get jackson or rudolph... or even just sit there at 23 and take the top rated qb on their board while also grabbing a tackle at 31 (or the other way around)

according to the trade value chart 23 and 31 can get you into the top 10 but given the competition and the fact that the bills have 22 and 12 and i dont give the pats a single chance at getting into position for one of the top 4 qbs... so if they are going after a qb in round 1 its likely rudolph or jackson

the difference is mainly i think that the rams can pay cooks if they want to whereas we absolutely dont have the cap space to pay him
And that's why I don't get upset when we don't get aggressive per se. You mentioned the dolphins a few days ago as consistently "winning" offseasons. Heck, if it wasn't them, it was either the Skins or the Eagles.

But they also have 2 2nd round picks.

Oh and our favorite reporter says this trade is not a prelude for the Pats acquiring OBJ. So I guess that means they will.

Unbelievable. For the Rams sake, they better win a Super Bowl before all their rookie contracts expire and they have to start paying players.
Yeah they most likely have a 3 year window then all these contracts will catch up to them. I don't think they are setting their team up for long term success.

they are making the most of jared goff's rookie contract that's all
they'll still be able to pay donald, goff, gurley, peters (if they want to)
they've also got older players on big contracts who wont be around for long like whitworth, talib, suh who they wont have to pay and whose contracts will come off the books so they have the financial clout to pay everyone that they want to if they want to

Suh, Talib, Whitworth are just a season hires - they are clearly in win now mode. I guess that's how you ought to do it when you are LA team.

they are win now hires that dont put them in future cap hell and they wont need to pay them so it doesnt stop them paying the guys they want/need to pay soon or in the future...

that's all i meant by that - and they've got rid of a lot of their bad contracts from before by either cutting them or trading them away

That's true but they won't be able to do that continually and sustain any shape of longer term success.

no but they have the money to keep their corps elite talent and add through the draft or trades etc. and be in a strong place for a long time - 3 years is a long long time in the nfl

I just had finished a mock draft too..... damn it.
Cant wait to see it either way lol. I do expect the pats to be a possible trade back partner now. If Mcglinchey falls to 16 we may be able to get another 2nd round pick from the Pats. They dont have any 4th or 5th round picks so i woulndt mind giving up a 4th to pick in the front half of the 2nd or a 5th for the back half while also still having the 23rd pick theyd give us. If Mglinchey is there, wed hold all the leverage. Unless they arent done and really are trying to get to a QB but then they would need to get all the way in the top 5 for a shot

Agree on both accounts here. Its very ballsy either way. They have a lot of star players and sometimes in football, hype isnt always a good thing. Dont forget Mcvay is still only in his 30s. He coukd be way in over his head lol. Im not worried about it seeing we wont be playing them this year unless we go to the superbowl :giggle:

So the Titans released their "new" jerseys:
