Around the NFL: News and Rumors

which suggests to me they think saquon barkley is falling to the 5th pick or am i crazy?
they have zero depth behind anderson so they have to know they are gonna be able to pick someone up...

That's what I have in a mock I'm working on.

1. Allen to the Browns
2. Chubb to the Giants
3. Mayfield to Jets
4. Darnold to Bills in trade with Browns
5. Barkley to Broncos

giants arent taking chubb at 2 - they are either taking a qb or they are trading out to another team to take a qb

the bills and giants apparently already have a handshake non-official agreement to trade for the 2nd pick
i think its more about whether the cardinals or dolphins want to get ahead of the broncos at number 4 that's the question

if the giants take a non-qb at pick 2 they will be crucified because it makes zero sense or value to make that pick there...

According to that logic, The Browns should have been crucified for taking Garrett over Trubisky last year. Reports are that the Giants view Barkley as a "near perfect" prospect and that they were very impressed with Chubb. Eli is the starter this year, they can always get their QB in 2019.

Except...they can’t always get their QB in 2019. They’re not always going to be this high in the draft.

Garrett is better than Chubb. Trubisky is meh. The Browns would’ve been crucified for taking anyone besides Garrett at 1. Your logic is flawed.

different players/different class - and lets not forget that the browns are being crucified for not taking wentz in 2016 and not taking watson at 12 in 2017...

the giants dont have 2 picks in the 1st round and they arent likely to be back in the top 10 in a class where 5 qbs could legitimately go top 10...

I will never understand this. There is no guarantee that either Wentz or Watson would've had the same success for the Browns.
But when was the last time a RB has really carried a team to the SB?
I think it was J.Lewis. Take a QB or trade back.

yeah i agree i dont understand the criticisms because it was quite clearly part of a larger draft plan and lo and behold the browns have a stacked amount of picks and are pretty much set up to have 2 picks in every first round until the end of time if they play the draft well every year

and of course every situation is different but its also not like wentz had players and coaches around him in year 1 that were built for his success...

but yeah its stupid to compare any specific situation - that being said - any team for the foreseeable future would be stupid not to trade out of the top 5 picks if they have an incumbent franchise starter at qb

Apparently Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks say there are some crazy trade rumors floating around, yet won't say what those rumors are.

well we know that the bills and giants have a gentleman's agreement about the 2nd pick

id imagine other crazy trade "rumours" would involve the patriots' 2 first round picks and a qb

or maybe the browns doing something crazy like packaging a load of their picks together to move up significantly to get maybe a 3rd (or even 4th) 1st round pick - i mean they have too many picks at this point that there cant really be a way that they would keep all of them i imagine so this has to happen somewhere int the draft surely

Rapsheet: "The Seahawks have not yet cleared 2017 2nd round pick DT Malik McDowell, and source said they are expected to release him in the near future. The hope is that another team will medically clear him."

this is really sad - people knocked him for his maturity in the draft but kid had all the talent in the world and its the most unfortunate thing to happen to him - his career might be over before it properly ever started due to a completely freak accident

Wow...expected to release him? Do we know why it is exactly that he can't pass their physical? I thought he said the injuries weren't life or career threatening back when it happened. I thought McDowell was going to be a monster...maybe we can pull an opposite Ryan Grant and clear him.

i guess the severe concussions and the assorted issues must be lingering too much for anyone to clear him of those concussion symptoms - that would be my guess - they also may struggle to work out what the baseline is to match him up against in terms of concussions if he's just naturally quite stupid but that would be a crazy coincidence

my guess is his career is over particularly because its a concussion issue

What Defensive Tackle are they going to sign who just became available that they make this move?

On a serious note, hopefully he is still able to play and have a future in the NFL. Wouldn't mind bringing him in to see the issue and if we could clear him.

"Seattle's first picks, since 2013: '13: Christine Michael, RB (Round 2, 62nd pick) '14: Paul Richardson, WR (2, 45) '15: Frank Clark, DE (2, 63) '16: Germain Ifedi, G (1, 31) '17: Malik McDowell (2, 35) One first-round pick in five seasons."

also poor general level of play from the best guy in each of their classes

If rumors are true Giants want Chubb at their pick. If he is taken before hand their fallback is Nelson.
