If you extend them, then the void years can prorate longer, depending on how long you voided. For example if we were to extend OBJ, he wouldn't have the $11M dead money anymore. He would have $2.7M in dead $ + whatever the new contract is. It pushes the proration further out.

The biggest question with the Ravens '24 offseason is whether or not EDC will use void years in future deals. He never did before '23, and the prevailing thought was he was only doing it to hedge against a poison pill offer for Lamar. However, he did do void years (though smaller one's) on Lamar's deal, when he probably didn't have to. So maybe that will become a part of his the go-forward strategy.

Would point out that some Owners are anti-void years because, in order for them to work, you pretty much need to lay out larger cash comp in earlier years. Obviously teams would prefer to defer comp as long as possible. In order to do void years, you need bigger pieces of a contract to be signing bonuses.

From the list, there's basically two players that I think you have "critical" decisions on... Queen and Madubuike. Can't imagine you can keep both, and both will likely be quite expensive. OBJ would be third on that list.

There's a lot of low-to-mid-tier starters and a ton of depth on this list, but I can't imagine anybody beyond those two fetching a huge contract. Maybe Stone plays his way out of Baltimore, but I also think he might be in the mold of a Clark or Elliott who has "perceived" higher value in the market, but really doesn't.

Backup QB, RB and LB I'm not really concerned with. If we lose all or most of those guys, I don't think it would be a big deal. We either have guys in-house that I'd expect to step up, or can replace them in the draft or FA without a ton of capital.

WR you'll still have Bateman and Flowers no matter what. Dline we have Jones and Washington. Edge you will have Oweh, Ojabo, Robinson and Bowser.

Corner and Oline remain the most intriguing.

actually Morgan Moses, Zeitler and I believe Edwards had voidable years built into their contracts when they were signed and in Gus' case, extended. All of these were prior to 2023.

That being said, I don't believe we had any voidable years contracts prior to 2022. Now that we have extended Lamar and know how much he is going to affect the cap in future years EDC may decide not to use them.

Moses has no void years.
Zeitler, Edwards and Pierce void years were added in '23 as part of cap conversions. They did not have void years on the original contracts they signed.

Agholor, RYS, Stone and OBJ were all signed this offseason to one year deals and all have void years.

One other thing I noted... Broderick Washington got his extension in August (after Lamar signed), and he has no void years on his deal. He's not an expensive player, so that may mean nothing, but worth nothing as an indication that EDC is certainly not going to use it on every deal, whereas a lot of the teams that do use void years religiously (Eagles, Saints, others) frequently put void years on almost all of their deals.

Think they're utilizing Richard as an extra TE or lead blocker in those situations. Don't think you're seeing Monken run out of 12 personnel that often anymore.

Yes it's true they are using Ricard at the tight end position to block but if Likely or Kolar was nearly as good at blocking as Josh Oliver or Ricard it would make the ravens run game less predictable or atleast make things less predictable in generally with whatever the offense wants to do. It's not that Ricard can't be used in the passing game but he's not much of threat as someone like a Josh Oliver was. Monken at times will have Ricard line up at the H Back or full back position to block so having that one solid blocking tight end to block pretty well would probably be helpful Maybe even including Ricard more in the passing game could help but just think having a second solid blocking tight end would help .Not that Mark Andrews is terrible blocking tight end and he's definitely improve in that area over the years but I wouldn't call it his calling either.

Right, but also consider that Kolar has basically been a gameday inactive, meaning Monken is comfortable going with two TEs. If he had Oliver on the roster, and he was actually playing, it means they'd either need to deactivate Likely, or another offensive player. Possibly the third RB or another Olineman. Which I personally wouldn't do.

That also means that there's probably not a lot of plays where Oliver would be in the game on obvious passing downs, so when he's in the game, the other team will queue that its likely to be a run play.

Think this was always going to be the trade off from Roman to Monken. Roman did a LOT of heavy packages, and Monken would prefer 11 personnel so that he can get three WRs on the field.

a) why would anybody trade for a player who's on NFI?
b) It's hard to understand what's going on. Harbaugh was more cryptic. If I were to "guess", I'd say the team feels like maybe he's healthy enough to be out there (at least practicing), while Bowser himself is taking it slower.
Also could be the same situation as Williams, i.e. he's got an injury that he could theoretically play through, but also the injury needs surgery to recover, so he's weighing rehab vs surgery and season ending.

Certainly been a good start on that front. I just salivate at the idea of a guy that can win those 1 on 1 matchups more consistently instead of having to scheme stunts and blitzes.

Clowney is winning a lot of one on ones and he was a great signing. I've noticed a lot of push from Mads and Pierce too and these guys are freeing up blitzers. Personally I like 4-6 sent every play just using different arrays.
