Signings, Cuts, Trades

Perhaps. Other than somebody of note in a trade or somebody like a JPP who may require I guess some moderate money on a one year deal, I still don't get the need for this level of cap space. Maybe they need it later in the year if injuries mount up, but it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me right now at least.
I hear you. I think we now have like just under 15 million. You'd have to think one more move is coming plus reserve for the season. That move may even be Drake. Not sure exactly.

Allows them to do something potentially a little more moderate if needed, but...

Was just about to post this. I think they could have covered the interim, but the restructure would have been inevitable later in the year anyway. Brian also said this, which I found interesting and probably true...

Basically, if they had confidence they could get Lamar done in the next 10 days, they probably don't do the restructure with Stanley, because it's not needed. So doesn't seem particularly likely we see a Lamar deal.

On the flip side, IF they do manage to get a Lamar deal, I think they don't have to cut his current year cap number much, if at all, now, which would be good news for future cap years.

Yeah it's twofold here. I wouldn't have stated it so matter of factly as Brian did, but certainly an indication that talks are at some sort of impasse. And as you said, if it does happen to get done at some point, you now can structure it a bit better for the long term

On the other hand, would also be remiss if we didn't call out that this restructure could have been done a couple of weeks ago. We know the Ravens never announce restructures and sometimes they just pop up on the log, and it doesn't necessarily mean it was done in the last day or two. Just playing devil's advocate here.

I'm hoping this restructure for Ronnie is a good sign for his health. It does come at a kind of ominous time for him though.

I mean the fact that the is cleared but not practicing tells me they are really not worried about week 1 which is fine because week 1 is just the Jets. It would like being afraid of the Giants.

This shouldn't be too worrying given he's been a bust basically everywhere including Buffalo.

Word on the street is he and Tom didn't get along when Gronk came to town. Probably not the best idea to throw a fit and annoy Brady.

Right, but either way, if you do the math on $ needs, they didn't need to restructure him probably before the season started. They could have waited until talks with Lamar ended, and then did a restructure in-season when the space was needed. They had $ to fill their roster space for opening week already. They just didn't have much, if any, left for in-season injuries or waiver adds.

Oh I don't disagree. It's definitely an admission of some sort of impasse but I also don't think chances are now 0 with this move. We know deadlines can spur action so fingers crossed, but certainly looks more on the negative side.

Only other thing of course is if they wanted some flexibility for today but still one where you'd think they'd wait until they have something concrete.

So are we expecting to claim anybody the active roster? Or only to the PS and we'll resign only our vested vets to the 53?
I'm sure they'll throw in a couple of claims - they always do. The question is whether one of the 13 teams in front of us do as well.

So you can put your claims in at noon right? When do guys know whether they have been claimed or not? Is it instantly?

Teams have until noon to make a claim, so could have conceivably been as soon as 4:01 yesterday. But if I remember correctly, it usually takes 30-45 minutes for claims to start coming out. Usually guys that are going to one of the top teams in the order get leaked first because well, that's a guarantee.

Ok, so we should be hearing about some of the first claims probably around 1PM today?

I feel like something sweet's going down for us

Hold up. Isn’t this bad to do for Ronnie? If his ankle is messed up, he don’t want to push his money into future years and be stuck with him more longer than we have to right? Hopefully this means their confident he’ll play?

they obviously have more confidence than you do about Stanley, plus it doesn't change his future years that much. This was all part of the plan when they extended him.
