wondering if it's a smart thing to put all our eggs in the draft to fill our needs

I really hope they aren't lining kenneth murray up at ILB :(

i think it's plausible that we get a bit more aggressive either with that 1st pick but more likely with the 2nd pick

i think we're going to be looking for 2 instant impact players - we're likely in position already to get 1 with that 1st pick as long as we dont bust (but touch wood we've been pretty good with 1st rounders historically - we've had 3 blips in the 2010s (albeit 1 was after a trade down and didnt necessarily bust completely due to foreseeable circumstances lol)

i think where we might get aggressive is with that 2nd pick and going up to get a 2nd high impact player who will contribute early

we know EDC wanted to find a way to go up and try and get cody ford in the 2nd round last year despite not even having a 2nd round pick so we know he's not afraid to make that sort of a move if the compensation can be worked out and we definitely have the ammo this year with 2 3rd rounders and 3 4th rounders that we arent going to have to trade away our whole draft to make significant moves

i would be surprised if we traded up from 28 but i would not be surprised to see us trade up from 60 especially if we see a high graded player fall into the 40s

im just looking at my board and if the obvious 2 qbs go and maybe 1 more somewhere before 28 then we'd only need 3 players from outside my top 22 players to be guaranteed a high graded 1st round talent based on my grades - im looking at 22 players who would basically be no-brainers at 28 and with the way the draft has historically gone id be expecting 2 or 3 guys who i have top 20 grades on to still be available when we pick

but also looking at the last few years there are also players available in the 40s and 50s who have no right still being on the board - it's just a case of us putting ourselves in position to get one this year (which we havent been in position to do since 2017 because we havent had a 2nd round pick since then but Orlando Brown probably qualifies as that type of talent in 2018 - as does mark andrews tbh)

i think at this point the biggest impact any player would have on this team at 28 would be cesar ruiz right now followed by denzel mims and maybe patrick queen and the more i think about it the more cesar ruiz makes the most sense at 28 of any player in this draft as being available and being an impact player + we have the harbaugh inside scoop if we need it lol

im starting to think we wont be taking a LB until day 3 despite the day 2 depth and im starting to think that we might not have an EDGE be BPA on the ravens board at least until round 3 but maybe not at all in this draft class but we shall see

at this point the draft is going to be as effective as free agency to fill our needs given the cap we have available

what would the release of Carr free up?
 
I definitely think we could see DeCosta be more aggressive in trading up in the draft this year. Like rossi, I'd lean more towards that coming in the 2nd round, but wouldn't be shocked if a smaller move up was made in the 1st.

As far as needs go (and in no particular order):

RB: I could see us add a guy here in round 4 if we keep all of the picks, but not super pressing
WR: Deep draft and I fully expect us to pick one on day 1 or 2
OL: I think we'll hit this multiple times, as well as add a FA. Looking at interior and an upgrade at swing T over Andre Smith.
DL: Campbell is a big get but a true 3T should still be in the cards via the draft
OLB: Still think we'll hit this early even with Judon and a hopeful McPhee return
ILB: Again, draft. Think we could re-sign Bynes as an insurance policy
DB: Another that I think could be both draft and FA. Cheap on the FA of course.

I know you can never pinpoint it exactly, but that's 8 picks and 8 positions I think we'd like to hit. Wouldn't expect big capital moved to get up in round 1, but could absolutely see them sacrificing a 4th or so to move up in the 2nd.
 
Without reading all of the posts on this, anybody know if the 2 year deal is an extension or just a straight two year deal?

i.e. a two year extension would be in addition to the one year we absorbed in the trade, making it essentially a 3 year, $42M deal.

Typically when they say 2 year, $27M extension, its in addition to his current deal, meaning its effectively a 3 year, $42M deal, with $20M guaranteed, which will likely all or mostly be paid in 2020.

2 year deal. Ripped up the 1/$15M and gave him the 2 year.
 
I think the option to trade down to the very top of the second round and move up again into the top of the second round becoming more and more appealing, unless some crazy good player starts to drop. We could potentially get like Jonathan Greenard plus Hamler/Reagor/Higgins depending on who drops. That would be pretty crazy good

I think his 2 yr deal runs out in 2021 so his 2020 salary is part of the 27MM extension as far as I know...

EDC loves his 4th round picks so I doubt there will be too much trading other than trading down from the 1st to get an early 2nd if EDC and Ozzie believe there are a lot of players they covet/like are still on the board.

We really need as many second round picks as possible in this type of draft, so many great players gonna be available in that range
