Signings, Cuts, Trades

Boyle 7.3 (this is a no brainer)
Campbell 6.5 (he's playing well and wouldn't mind bringing him back a his current contract)
Clark 3.6 (Almost positive he will be gone at the end of the year)
Pierce 2.7 (He was playing really well and it was unfortunate when he went down. I'd like to keep him)
Edwards 4.3 (His contract could be restructured instead of outright cut and could still save us a couple million.
Proche 1m (unless he starts to get used more frequently, I see no reason in bringing him back)
Zeitler 6.5 (The depth we have on the offensive line makes it tough to get rid of Zeitler or Moses)
Moses 2.5 (above)

If all of these players are cut / traded they would save us 34.4m. If we keep both Zeitler and Moses and Campbell retires we still save 25m in cap space. This gives us room to not only franchise tag Lamar, but also extend Roquan Smith and be active in free agency.

edwards is gone
proche doesnt even enter the equation (but 1m in savings is meaningless because that's less than what it costs to bring in a vet at the minimum salary - so technically a net loss in cap terms)

campbell already basically retired - he only came back to go after 2 things: a superbowl and 100 sacks - he's only 1 sack away from 100 and i'd be shocked if he didnt retire this offseason no matter the outcome of the season

pierce isnt going anywhere

i think it's likely that one of zeitler or moses is moved on - zeitler's been the better player but moses plays the more irreplaceable position and saves us the least if we cut him

especially with how Hamilton's come along and with Geno Stone and Brandon Stephens and Ar'Darius Washington all around i think Chuck is gonna get moved - whether we can find someone to trade for him or it's a cut i think he's on his way out

overthecap's number is based off a 225m cap figure

I don't think Pierce is going anywhere either and keeping Pierce, Proche and Moses, while cutting Zeitler and the rest saves us 28.2m. Although I wouldn't be surprised if we just restructured Edwards, which would save us about 2m, instead of 4.3m. This is still a savings of about 26m. Add that to the 38 to 47m in available cap space we currently have and that's a tremendous amount of space to work with.

What I was saying is you put we had 38m if the cap was 181m. But then you said it could be 220, but continued to say we 38m. Wouldn't it mean we would then have 57?

Personally I'd hate to do it, but I'd rather see Zeitler go rather than Moses. I think there's a better chance Cleveland can play well at RG and I like the depth at RT. But honestly I'd like to keep both. We're already going to be losing powers right?

Powers has been pretty good and he might be cheaper to retain than we think. Look at the contracts Bozeman and Averett got last season.

Zeitler's been great. He's getting old, but so is Moses. If the contract situation was similar, I think I'd rather Zeitler was kept.

Mekari doesn't play RT as well as Moses but that's balanced out by Moses getting flagged for 3 penalties every week, so it's about even.

I think it comes down to Powers or Zeitler. They're not letting both walk. If they extend Powers, they'll probably cut Zeitler.

Moses is more expendable to me because you will have three Tackles on the roster already (Stanley, Mekari and Faalele), and I think they drafted Faalele pretty much with a purpose to be the starting RT within 2-3 years, and I think he's faired well enough at LT in spot starts to warrant getting the starting gig. Plus I think Moses is jush "meh". Reliable, but average. He's not irreplaceable to me at all.

Either way, you probably need to draft (or sign) a Guard or Tackle, depending on who you let walk. If Powers walks, or if you cut Zeitler and sign Powers, you still need another Guard. If you cut Moses, three Tackles is good, but they'll still need to add somebody.

Agree with this.
Boyle and Edwards are gone I think.
Clark is either traded or outright released
I think Moses is most likely to get cut.
Campbell retires

Those five players being gone alone saves you nearly $24.5M in cap space. Losing Boyle, Edwards and Moses I don't think will hurt that bad. Losing Clark sort of does, and losing Campbell sucks, given how well he's played. But can't just keep kicking that can, and it probably won't be up to us anyway.

They only save 2.5m if they cut Moses. I'd keep him if we cut Zeitler. I'd rather not have entirely knew right side of the line and give Faalele more time to develop.

I misunderstood what you wrote. I thought you were saying we had 38m available if the cap was set at 181 m. But then you had said it was probably going to to 220m so (220 - 181) + 38 = 57. But I didn't realize you were saying 220 - 181 is where our 38 is coming from!
 
Start fresh with a new OC, Trade Lamar for Houston's 1st/2nd round pick, draft Bryce Young, use that cap space to secure Roquan/Queen, use our pick (20-25 range) on CB/WR/OL support.

Its time to start fresh, this is the way.

got it. No, the 181m is the total cap hit of the 40 active contracts in 2023.

This style is an option, but I think we would need at least 2 first round picks even if one is the number one overall. And at least 3 high picks in total.

I could see two first rounders, but the number 1 overall pick is significant enough where I don't think they give up another. That and I'm assuming thier 2nd round pick will be #33. Basically a 1st rounder. We could do some seriious damage with essentially 3 first round pics and 65 million in cap space

If you look at this team pretty objectively it's a
QB (this could be Lamar obviously)
RB
OG
WR maybe 2
CB
DE

Away from being a total SB contender again next year. The team has to think about what it's going to be able to do in all of its situations to make the strongest team possible for as long as possible.
