Signings, Cuts, Trades

I was arguing that saying someone is "alpha" is not a compliment for them as a player. The best WR in the NFL right now does not have that "alpha" streak. CK just plays the game and does it very well. Hopkins is much the same way. The theory that you have to be OBJ or AB to be a great WR is nonsense.

Also Hollywood was by far the number 1 WR when he was here. Boldin had the better career but we did not get year 1 Boldin or even year 5 Boldin; we got year 8-10 Boldin who was still very good but not better than Hollywood.
Someone said alpha and you extrapolate that to OBJ and AB and I’m not sure why, those dudes aren’t “alpha” at all, and cooper kupp and deandre Hopkins are absolutely “alpha” types if you wanna quantify that. Diva does not equal alpha, exact opposite really

Cooper Kupp is not the best WR in the league.

Hollywood had nobody that could challenge him here. Bateman could have but he was hurt and we never got to see them play together. Andrews is number 1 if we are talking pecking order

Boldin had down years with us before having 2 very good seasons with SF. As a matter of fact both players played for the Ravens for 3 years. Hollywood had 1 very good season before being traded. Q came up big every time we went to him, especially in playoff games.

Boldin was open even if he had a CB hanging on him

I mean if we are talking playoff games Hollywood was the entire offense in playoff games going for 126 in 2019 in 1 game and 196 in 2 games in 2020. That is what you want your number 1 to do. Their playoff stats are VERY comparable (except for 2010). Andrews was sadly not very good in any of his playoff games so far but we will see if that changes this year. It is interesting though that you cite the SF years because Hollywood was in fact on pace to beat both of those years before that fluke injury.

Also CK is absolutely the best WR in the league. He just does not steal headlines in the way the others do. In the same way that for a few years DHop was right in that conversation but again was not making headlines so nobody cared but he carried his team and last year carried the Cardinals.

Also the idea that nobody could challenge Hollywood kind of lends credibility to my original point which is the Ravens of the Lamar years are better than the Ravens weapons of the Flacco years (with Lamar being the best weapon of them all).

Because the example of being not alpha was Brown being so despondent over a bad game that he had to be consoled, which to me is a net positive because a player actually cares about how they do. The opposite of feeling like crap over playing badly would not be thinking you not capable of playing badly or not caring if you do. Either one of those makes me think of AB and OBJ.

Naw bro.. ck not best in lg and never was. Cant get thar title after one year when guys like dhop, hill, adams, diggs and now jj havibg been doing it every year.. as far as ravens wr, hollywood actually might be better than boldin..its def a fair argument

Well regardless I feel it’s pretty hard to call a guy who avoided contact at all costs in a contact sport an alpha. Not his fault or anything, dudes just born a twink, and Hollywood did very well here, boldins stretch of not just quality plays but how meaningful his quality plays were to our SB run put him a notch higher though imo. I can respect the opinion though.

And I also feel like you really did make a massive leap when you concluded obj or ab was the “alpha” that was being described.

If caring and taking responsibility is weak then I went to the other end of that spectrum. Seemed like a good leap to me.

If you want to call it being a fighter then sure I would agree that Hollywood was less of a fighter than say Steve Smith though many times I wished SS would fight a little less.

I usually tier players versus having definitive bests for this exact reason. My t1 of WRs is: CK, Hill, Diggs, JJ, and Chase.

Adams looks like someone who was made by a QB because he looks average at best without Rodgers and DHop will now have missed significant time in 2 straight years and you cannot be one of the best if you are only playing 2/3 of the games.

Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, Tyreek Hill, and Stefon Diggs are at the top of the receiver class

it actually looks like Rodgers and Adams need each other.

Rodgers needs an offensive weapon that belongs in the NFL. It reminds me of Brady's last year in NE where they just had no one to throw it to and so everyone, myself included, thought Brady was done but the moment he got real weapons he looked elite again. I just do not get what the Packers FO is thinking. Their weapons are drastically worse than the Ravens even WITH Bateman out. Their top weapon Lazard would be WR3 here and their TEs would be inactive.

Obviously they will not be able to afford 20-24m guys like Adams (and it is funny to me that Adams is basically the 6th or 7th highest paid WR in the NFL) but at least get some actual NFL players for 5-8m. Rodgers could probably make WR2s and 3s look like 1s but he cannot make WR4s and 5s into a real offense... no one can.

I'd agree with this statement and this is true of Lamar also. He has one weapon and he's a TE.

Eh, slightly disagree. All QBs need help, and all WRs need someone that can get them the ball. Though if Adams went to a decent team he'd be doing far, far better. He's easily getting open and beating his man.
and I wasn't saying they aren't good without each other, I was just saying they would be doing better with each other. ie the sum of the parts is better in this circumstance.

I mean with Bateman healthy I would argue that the Ravens have better weapons than the Chiefs do. Bateman is a little better than JuJu and Duv is worse than Scantling and the combo of Andrews/Likely is probably a little better than Kelce so I give the Ravens a slight edge at TE. My complaint with the Packers is that they didn't even go for a cheap 7-10m WR or have any real highly drafted picks, or even a cheap TE, they just kind of spent 50m on a QB and then decided to do nothing to press the advantage of having an elite passer.

I kind of get how the Ravens built their team: Lamar is a great runner so build up an offensive line and get him some fast WRs who can take advantage of the strong run game and some great TEs to help move the chains. They built to the strength of their QB. The strength of Rodgers is his arm and the Packers did not play to that at all.

Have you seen adams this year? He doesnt play for rodgers so the hype not their but he def balling..per usual he already has double digit tds..

Just saw and adams has 1200 with 12tds.. 3rd in yards and 1st in tds… he can not catch another pass this season and would still be considered one of the best.. he is far too consistent for me to put anyone above him

LMAO dude what?! Adams is having an AMAZING season with a scrub of a QB! First you say that Hollywood is better than Anquan and now this? I am flabbergasted

He is having an okay season and to call it anything else is sensationalism at its best. He is getting a lot of touches to be sure which boosts his stats but I would struggle to call it a great season let alone an amazing one.

I had to look this up, and honestly I thought it would be even lower than this, but Adams is catching 57.7% of the balls thrown his way. For the past 4 years his numbers in that category are: 65.7, 65.4, 77.2, 72.8. So to be at 57.7 means you are getting touches to boost numbers but not necessarily capitalizing on said touches. Hopkins is high 60s low 70s the past few years, Kupp is mid 70s, chase has been mid 60s, JJ this year is 69.3. I could keep going but you see the pattern here. The great WRs catch the ball when it comes their way. He is not able to do that this year.

As a proof-point that us fans worry too much at the roster cutdown: Both Mack and Washington have lasted 13 weeks on the PS. At least Mack I had expected to get a chance when injuries started happening across the league.

Speaking of Washington, he gets his 3rd activation this week, it will be interesting to see if they move him to the 53 next week. I like the guy, but it is disappointing that none of the CBs above him have shown up this year

It’s time to call upon Ryan Fitzpatrick, have him leave Tv, and bring the FitzMagic to Baltimore until Lamar comes back. Championship
