Signings, Cuts, Trades

Are you saying Gus is a no brainer cut candidate? Why? $4.5 M isn't cheap but the days when you could reliably pick up a late round or UDFA RB who can reliably do what he does are long gone at this point. A lot of mid round RBs are useless these days, never mind lower down the draft.

it's the same as it's ever been at RB in the draft tbh
we've just not done well hitting on them since Gus...

but he's absolutely a no-brainer cut unless he's taking an actual pay-cut

not saying he wont be a raven, but he's probably getting cut if he doesnt take a pay-cut and will test the market - maybe he doesnt like what he gets offered and he comes back

but i do think since he got injured again in the middle of the season he's not looked the same

Oh yeah 100%. Just saying that $41M is inflated right now and is about to drop by a decent amount here real soon.
absolutely will drop. We only have 41 players for next year with that cap number.

It's still a lot more than we normally have, if and only if we can extend Lamar.

I personally see a lot of real contributor names on that list. Additionally even with all of them, the team still has holes. And the on top of that the team does not have a lot of picks and with the Lamar probably being tagged situation, probably no money either. So I do not share your sentiment at all

i see a lot of contributors - but i dont see a bunch of guys who arent replaceable for cheap or who will have much of a market...

think some of them will be back just like they were last year
and some of them will move on

but im not worrying about most of them either way

think seymour is the UFA i most want us to retain of the bottom of the list guys

i think you've nailed it on the UFA front - we'll offer a bunch of those guys at the bottom vet minimum deals - Seymour, Worley, Urban, Hill and see who takes us up

Oliver might get a little bit more than vet minimum but i dont see him getting a better offer elsewhere and there's a distinct role available for him here (contingent on who our OC is in 2023)

Powers is likely linked with Zeitler so probably has not that much impact on the cap in the end (unless we pick Zeitler and no one wants Powers so we bring him back)

Houston will likely get an offer similar to last year where he can accept later in the year if he wants

The RFAs are a little interesting in that there's a bunch of guys there I think we'd like to keep - but also not a single one that I think we'd actually put a tender on... think we'll happily let all of them become free agents and then try and sign them to vet minimum deals

maybe throw Geno Stone and Nick Moore longer term deals with a bit of guaranteed money at low prices

Ty might get the tender but personally i'd rather let him be a free agent and bring him back for as cheap as possible - i dont think he's got many other options on the market - maybe the Bears, maybe whichever team thinks they might get Richardson in the draft, maybe the Titans depending on what they do - not sure there's anywhere for him except here and if there is well good luck to him in all honesty
Yeah if I had to break it down for the UFAs...

Big dog:
Lamar Jackson

Moderate-decently high contract possibilities:
Ben Powers, Marcus Peters

Veterans that are affordable but not the minimum:
Justin Houston, Josh Oliver, Jason Pierre-Paul, Kyle Fuller

Minimum contract possibilities:
Everyone else

if we extend lamar, it's in our best interest to do it before march
and then we can load up

it's why i think lamar has a bit of leverage over the next couple of months regardless of what happens this week (and in any potential future playoff weeks) - the front office is incentivised to get a deal done with Lamar before the tampering window opens so that we've got spending money (and also the ability to retain our own guys if we want to)

after march his leverage is reduced until we get towards week 1, and then again before we get to march 2024 (if he ends up play 2023 the same way he did 2022 with regards to negotiating windows)

Don't forget the recent tradition of restructuring almost everyone. I expect three out of Stanley, Humphrey, M Williams, Andrews to get simple restructures.
Not that we will have much to spend anyway due to rookie contracts +5-10 spare cash for IR replacements, Ps contracts etc.

i don't think it's just a Ravens problem. The RB shortage is league wide and has been for quite a few years now. A lot of teams are struggling to find them after Day 2. (I think talented athletes are switching to positions that can get paid - Brandon Stephens style. )

The supply of late round/UDFA star RBs is down to about 1 or 2 a year, across the league these days.

i mean they're rarely stars

2017-2018 was a ridiculous group of lower round RBs - but that wasn't what it was always like

it has always been possible to find talented RBs later in the draft for sure
but it's never been likely or frequent
