Bills going to look a whole lot difference on defense. They releasing everyone.... safe to say their window closed.

So the cap is real?

difference is, madubuike doesnt get to hit free agency like Jones and Wilkins
Does it matter to get a deal done for the Ravens though? The risk he may assume would be if he has an okay year statistically. Does he take that risk and wait out the year without signing? Questions with no firm answers.

Nah. As long as Josh Allen has a few weapons they're in the hunt. One good draft can easily keep them as a playoff team.
Well at least we can hope with so many new pieces in their defense that we play them early in the season to take advantage of it.

I don't think they're releasing any of their core players. They'll end up losing less players on defense than we will.

both of them were core defensive players at one point but they can do without them now. Of course they could have used White last year.

we'll see if he uses it on any larger deals but he did use void years on a lot of the smaller deals last year too
It's small $ ultimately, and he did use it on Lamar's deal, but not for huge $.
JM will be the barometer if he gets one done.

Good news is that if he's actually planning to do close to max void years for these types of deals, it means we're not going to be hamstrung in FA as much as people think.

You wonder if void years become more of a thing for 1-2 year deals going forward. Historically, we've been a team that tacked on an extra year or two to a deal to spread out the cap, even if you knew it wasn't a long-term thing. Voids are all the rage now so this could be the new approach theoretically.

exactly could. Just depends on if the owner wants to take on cash over cap, but theoretically it can work better than a restructure in many cases.

if we were willing to do longer deals in the past with large non-guaranteed salaries in later years in the deal just to spread out bonuses, no reason not to do void years - its the same mechanism but you can now potentially recoup some comp picks depending on the way the contract's worded

What do you mean you can get comp picks?
