Why would he just be getting neck surgery right now? That seems awfully stupid to me. Like he's had sooooooooo much time
Obviously not a lot of reporting on his injury specifics, but my guess is it's one of those "rehab vs surgery" injuries where you don't really know what the proper choice is until after you've seen the results.

That is giving the kind benefit of the doubt read into things. Which is entirely plausible. It's just they tried 7 whole months of rehab before deciding yeah he needs surgery and then probably 7 more months of rehab?

Just seems stupid

Depends what the injury is. If it’s what I was loosely told, they needed to let the swelling go down to derisk the surgery. If it was a thing that they could have done surgery on right away, they would have.

Edit to add: both sides were also hoping there was no need for surgery at all

Without knowing the injury, if it's a neck injury, I'd probably wait years to get surgery. Or refuse to get it at all.

Grain of salt per usual but I guess in the spirit of being transparent, I was told that he had a pretty high grade neck sprain with nerve impingement. They were in wait and see mode like us, because the answer to that is usually rest and therapy to see if you get the improvements you want. If you don't, that's when surgery becomes the option to improve quality of life. Could be a multitude of things here - he needed it for everyday life, or he needed it to get back on the field. Either way, you usually only jump to neck surgery when you need neck surgery.

Yeah that doesnt sound like coming back to football but what do I know? Literally nothing.

My whole point from earlier was if he was always going to come back to play, I'd have expected more action. This slow play thing sounds good for him but not good for his prospects as a professional football player.

Hope for everyone, I'm wrong

They care much more about the guy having quality of life than football. They weren’t going to rush anything for football.

The delay allowed for a change in medical outlook. While initially thought to be season-ending, the surgery in April 2026 is now expected to allow him to play in the 2026 season.

I'm not saying that trading Bateman is strictly necessary or mandatory. I am saying that if there's a good deal and it needs to be sweetened, Bateman is my pick. That's all.

I don't think he's indispensable.

Madubuike is stretching his paychecks (which is great), he did everything possible to come back in rehab, now he's having surgery, then seven months of recovery, and so on.

The reality is that at his position, with his power and the competition, a nerve injury in the neck is a career-ending blow. We all know it, we just don't want to accept it.
The Ravens are slaves to their contract, and Beeks is enjoying his. That's all

...the reports are literally saying that there's a high degree of confidence he's going to be back on the field at some point this season. He's not getting a surgery if he has no intentions of coming back.

They’re frustrated with Bateman but they also aren’t going to pay more money to just give him away for a low return. He’ll get a chance to get back to 2024 him this season and they’ll cross that bridge next year if he doesn’t.

Only ways something happens this year is if they draft a guy and just say they don’t need him anymore, Bateman gives up something to facilitate a move, and/or they get a really good return that they don’t care about the money impact. That’s a lot to go right to make that happen.

If they draft a guy and he's something then I would be please with retaining Bateman as your official 3rd receiver. Having him split reps with Dez Walker in this scenario would not be bad either.

I think that's the ideal scenario. They aren't giving up on him necessarily, but I also don't think they want to count on him if that makes sense. Prepare as if he's going to be a letdown and enjoy the bonus production if he's not.

Career threatening neck injury, probably best to be as patient as you can be
