Next Up: vs Titans

I think this game will sort of tell us how the rest of the season will go. I'm not talking like if we win then we're definitely making a deep playoff run and I'm also not saying if we lose the season is completely over. What I think will be noteworthy is just in general how we play a tough team knowing where we stand with regards to have we've played all year and the current set of injuries we have.

If wink who is clearly very good at his job can't scheme us up into limiting Henry from running for 200 yards with who he's got on the field, then it just means the defense is what it is and won't be what we all hoped it be at the beginning of the year when everyone was healthy. A part of me doesn't want to see what Tannehil will do slinging the ball either given our decimated secondary.

We know from ample data that the offensive plan for this year just didn't come to fruition. We've been saying pre injuries we need to make a change of we want to win. Since then we've lost Stanley, Tyree, and now Boyle. If Roman thinks that what was already not working is going to magically start working in those guys' especially Boyles absence, he's in for a rude awakening.

I'm neither expecting a big offensive performance or a big defensive performance. Tbh I'm a little concerned this game looks a little bit like a mix of Cheifs and Pat's game, but I'll remain optimistic until game day. I'm looking to see that our coaches adapt a little, and that our players show some heart and step up when duty calls.

My fear 34-13 Tenn.
My realistic 27-21 Tenn.
My optimistic 24-21 Bal.

At best I see is pulling out a close one. I think it would be really big for the team to do that. Especially if it's a come from behind. Let's avoid getting blown out and let's go Ravens.

A couple things I'll say:
1. If we get gauged in the run game, it won't surprise me. We're going to be missing two key starters on the Dline, which would be troublesome for any front against this offense. Its just a question of whether we'll be able to eliminate the chunk yardage and keep them off the scoreboard. He can run for 200 yards all he wants but if we keep them out of the end zone I'll be fine with it.
2. I'm not buying into the "decimated secondary" stuff. Two best Corners will be out there. Both of our starting Safeties will be out there. And for this point in the season, they'll all healthy by NFL standards. For an NFL team to have its four main starters in the Secondary healthy and playing, at mid-season, is a good accomplishment.
Losing Tavon sucks, and Jimmy being hurt doesn't help. But they're also not nearly as critical as the others. I know the media likes to hype up that we have like 5-6 DBs on IR, but some of those guys would be on the PS if everybody was healthy. Like losing Bonds or Averett or Marshall are far from death blows to our secondary. Would like to have them here for depth and everything, but I'm not going to cry about our issues in the secondary. Its why you have all the players we do.

If our offense plays well on Sunday, I think we'll win. If it doesn't, it'll be a long day.

I agree with you that we do have our top 4 back there currently. However we've seen a huge number of times this year that someone gets roughed up at least for a period of time and has to come out. In the beginning of the year when we had AA and Jimmy it was really no big deal. Now of Marlon was to get the wind knocked out of him we are kinda struggling to put bodies on the field in that moment. Maybe decimated is the wrong word but thin isn't. If the defense can play mediocre and the offense can have a solid day we can pull out a win. Just need both units to show up. Unfortunately it's not something we've seen a lot of outside week 1.

decimated is the wrong word
the problem is base defence is incredibly rare now - we're almost lucky we played the pats last week because otherwise our secondary would have been torn apart purely through lack of corners available

right now our nickel corner is likely to be someone we signed of the street a week and a half ago

we play dime and nickel a ton but we currently have only 3 healthy and available CBs on the roster - yes it's great that 2 of them are all-pros but we're literally running out of players who can physically play corner to put in at that 3rd spot every week to say nothing of the fact that we still have the dime spot to fill now too - maybe that's geno stone but he's only had 2 snaps on defence all season (and both were in emergency relief when humphrey went down at the end of the pats game) or maybe it's levine...

True, though the reality is you can probably play more base against Tennessee as part of a successful game plan, much in the same way we did against NE (though that wasn't successful at all).

At this point, or at least against Tennessee, I'd rather see us play a lot more base defense with bigger personnel to help stop the run game. If get beat in the middle of the field by a slot WR, we'll just have to live with that, given our personnel restrictions. There's no way I'm putting 5-6 DBs out there against teams like NE or Tennessee when I'm missing my best two run stoppers inside and my rookie linebacking core is getting destroyed in the middle of the field. LJ Fort may help in that regard, but if I'm picking my poison, I'm making teams beat me in coverage rather than beat me with physicality and the run game.

If we can't devise a game plan and the players can't execute one that involves beating NE or TEN with a limited secondary, then we're in for a long rest of the season. While Tennessee has some playmakers that we need to account for, these aren't teams who typically threaten you down the field on the perimeter.

Pittsburgh will. A Dallas team with Andy Dalton at QB can. Joe Burrow certainly can.

the titans passing game is well constructed that allows them to be at their most dangerous when you sell out vs play action a if you sell out vs run then they’ll destroy you over the middle with AJ Brown and Corey Davis and Jonny Smith

we’re lucky Adam humphries probably won’t be suiting up because he might have crucified whoever we put at the nickel

and they’ve still got the speedster kalif Raymond who dusted marlon for a long td in the playoffs last year

it’s a dangerous passing attack predicated on the idea that you’ll try to stop Derrick Henry at any cost

Jimmy Smith back at practice - not sure whether limited or full participant yet but that’s a positive sign for his potential availability on Sunday - would be pretty massive for this team to have jimmy back for those nickel and dime sets

no word yet what his status might be but this is a positive sign

who’d have thought in the offseason just how much we’d miss Anthony averett lol

Henry rushed for 195 yards against us in the playoffs. With us having no defensive lineman, does he break 200+ yards tomorrow?

The playoff game is on NFL network right now and what I'm seeing right now that I don't feel like I've seen this year is 1. Hollywood in the slot and 2. 3WR set with a TE off the line also and 3. Lamar had time to scan the field he looks no different to me just less rushed
