Next Up: vs Jags

Finally back to some conventional timings and days. Lots of national attention both good and bad and national focus.

But back to 1pm ET on Sunday facing a free-falling Jags team competing with the Jets for most abject loser and possession of the 1st overall pick (and presumably Trevor Lawrence).

We cannot afford to have any hangovers from this intense divisional win.

I remember when we introduced Gardner Minshew to the NFL...

By biggest concern about this game is all the injuries we have coming out of the Browns game.
I'll wait until later in the week. The Peters and Lamar injuries don't appear to be anything serious and no reason to suspect they'll be issues this week at this point.

Campbell came out of unscathed, seemingly. I'm sure he'll be at less than 100% for the rest of the year.

Pretty much just leaves Jimmy as the wildcard. Would think they could just activate Averett in his absence, as he is seemingly healthy. Will have to see if somebody like Tramon Williams is available this week or not.

One thing is for sure... activating 4 corners only shouldn't and hopefully won't happen again.

Honestly kinda crazy we did that. Don't ask me why but we have YEARS of data which can be used to make my next point. Jimmy Smith is our Achilles heal. When that dude is out there for some reason our defense plays tremendously better than when he's not. Unfortunately he's constantly not. As I said last week no one in the AFC scares me outside of KC. If we can get healthy I think we can have some fun in playoffs, we're not going to the Superbowl, but I think maybe get the playoff bust label off of Lamar. Unfortunately though if our defense is going to play like shit whenever Jimmy is not out there we might be going home early.

I think for the last two years its a product of Jimmy being injured + one more corner. 4-5 years ago, I would have 100% told you that Jimmy was critical to this defense's success.

But I don't think you can lose like both Jimmy and Tavon, because pretty much no matter how good Peters and Marlon are, you're not going more than 3-4 deep at Corner in this league, and we're not the exception.

Defense has a little Jekyll and Hyde to me. They're a much better unit than we showed last night obviously, but you can't play as poorly as they did yesterday and win in the playoffs.

It's really a shame. I would have loved to see the defense with a healthy tavon. I'd also have loved to see an OLine of Stanley, Bozeman, Mekari, Powers, Brown. Imagine if Boyle was still around. Anyway that's enough. I'm proud of what are team has been able to given the Covid and injury circumstances and I'm just hoping Lamar can win a playoff game this year! For him more than me honestly.

Like COVID aside though, this team is probably average in terms of long term injuries this year. I bet if you looked at every roster in the league, they'd have equal or more long term injuries than us.

Its basically Boyle, Stanley, and Tavon. If you gave me that as long term injuries every year, I'd take it.

Its regression to the mean. We had some brutal injury years (like 2014), but like 2019 was probably the healthiest Ravens team I can recall in franchise history.

I don't disagree. It's just that the injury bug and the Covid outbreak happened at similar times which was great. Also we were just straight up playing poorly which also didn't help. I guess I'm just hoping as we're getting healthier from injury and Covid and as we're starting to play better maybe we can get some confidence back in this team. When they play confidently and have fun they are much better.

if you're telling me that's the number of starters we'll lose then fine that's fairly manageable

but if you told me Stanley was going down I'm not sure I'd ever 'take it'

Once Marlon was drafted the issues with Jimmy would mostly resolved, however I agree that losing both Jimmy and Tavon is too much.

As much as I love Tavon, we need to find another slot corner to have just in case he goes down.

2014 was bad but 2015 was worse, just not as bad on the DB side. Look at the amount of salary that was on IR. I remember it being a huge amount. Yes, we possibly go to the super bowl if we have one more DB in 2014, but there was a reason we were 5-11 in 2015.

I didn’t even know who the hell Harris was because I couldn’t watch the Steelers game. I hate how we entered the season with the most talented secondary and now it’s been decimated. I don’t know if I can trust Tavon anymore. Didn’t he recently restructure though?

im assuming this means Dez can't come off the Covid list like was planned today - will have to wait until the 18th i assume - still should be back in time for sunday though would be my guess

but who knows...

also it's bizarre that this wasn't always the protocol

I tell you as a UK fan, it's so great to have the 1pm kickoff back lol
While I'm not from the UK, I can attest to the 1 pm games. I was in London for our week 5 matchup against the Steelers and refs. Good timing. Me personally, I only want 1 pm games. Fuck the primetime games. I hate the wait.

Back to the Jags, the only reason why I don't think this game is a trap game per se is the fact we need every win to virtually guarantee us a Wild Card spot.
