The 2021 Offseason Thread

Yeah but the point is there's no like definitive "rest period" when any doctor or athlete can be 100% certain they're injury free and can return. Realistically, absolute certainty with an injury like this is like 6-12 months off. So if we're waiting that long, he goes on IR for the year and that's that.

Everybody is different. We've seen guys back to pretty high production from a torn ACL in like 6-9 months. Others take 15 months to recover and get back to something close to normal.
Fair enough

Apparently they often don’t, since it happens all the time.

crazy idea here, but could it be possible that the absurd injuries on the OL could be scheme related? Both fronts are schemed in the most chaotic way possible, on offense there’s lots of pulling, lots of turning and running from the OL, lots of craziness in a phone booth, and our defensive front is a lot of the same, lots of confusion and bodies being thrown around, could guys be getting rolled up and knocked around because of the crazy ass scheme that we’re practicing? Especially with a lot of the guys being new to the system.

no...

stanley got rolled up on in a game last year by the opposition in an unlucky fashion
cleveland's probably just gassed in the hot weather
zeitler got his foot stepped on
bozeman's already back at practice (dont even remember what his issue was for those 2 practices etc.)

what injuries are you referring to?

Wasn’t referring to Stanley, speculation on Cleveland and Bozeman, and getting your foot stepped on and injured sounds more likely when you’re pulling against a blitzing front.

i mean i dont really see why - there's rarely any pads involved or anything and nobody's fighting down to the ground...

just reading Jeff Zrebiec's observations and this feels like a big note buried within everything else:

Then, about an hour into practice, third-round selection Ben Cleveland, the favorite to start at left guard

since when has cleveland been the favourite? that would/should be major news lol if that's how it's looking - havent got that impression from anywhere else but would be cool if he's progressed far enough to not only be in the competition but actively winning it...

Spencer said in his latest upload that Cleveland has gotten much better, said he looks like he’s more flexible and balanced or whatever, said his stance is better and he’s moving better.

that would be a massive bonus if it is the case and if he is winning that job - especially if it's decisive

it just always concerns me that if he is winning it that he's not getting all the 1s reps (given that his main competition is playing a lot of LT snaps atm)

it'll be fun to see him in preseason

Most excited to see Oweh and Proche on Saturday.

im hoping we get to see something from brandon stephens and ardarius washington too albeit the broadcast angle isnt likely to be great to analyse either of them unless they make plays constantly

ben cleveland also - and i wanna see what tyre phillips looks like in year 2

There’s the positive attitude needed!

The only reason for the semi panic recently is because this squad truly feels like it is close to be championship quality and the little holes could be the difference. Regardless of that, should be an amazing and really fun season to watch.

Totally agreed. Would be nice to see Stephens in extended action because none of us saw that in college. And of course how could I have forgotten Cleveland. Gotta see the two big country's compete!!

If I’m correct, other than the Chiefs yet again scheduled for the early part of the season, our second half part of the season will be more intense and make or break.
