The 2021 Offseason Thread

Yeah I don't say that to down the younger guys. Some of them are doing really well and put out some quality work. I just see the biases more and more and I feel like it's getting increasingly harder to distinguish who is actually doing well and who is a product of hype because they fit the "ideal mold" that they've heard for years.

i do wonder if maybe it's just a case of getting to see those biases just because they're more active on twitter etc. and you get to see them at other points in the process

westry's a good example of your point - because i see some of the "newer" guys getting hyped about him doing that with the 2nd team DBs around him and it's cool that he's doing well but...

he's not making the team because he's not winning a spot via special teams and he's not some must-keep stash type guy

definitely good for him that he's seemingly stacking days but he's not making the roster

Binjimen Victor was the hyped one back in camps but now that he's quieted down, it feels like they've moved on to the other big and fast guy on the opposite side of the ball.

Not necessarily in the same vain, but since I brought up Westry... I saw a tweet the other day with a few 1 on 1 reps. Westry against Watkins I believe if I remember correctly. Ew. Westry had a weak press at the line, didn't flip his hips (just turned and ran), eyes on the receiver the whole time. Again, only one rep, but not a good look when you hear how well he's supposedly doing. Did everyone just ignore that and the other "bad" ones?

It could be that as well. I struggle with the RSR guys in particular, Lombardi included.

At one point last week, by all accounts McSorley had won the day in the QB battle and it felt like multiple people there had Huntley on a pedestal instead.

Reporting has definitely changed.

idk that i ever saw "hype" around victor though - but i see your point about the lack of balance and choosing what reps to share - think spencer schultz has been pretty fair and balanced with his "reporting" - basically just been going through his notes in sequential order on what he's noticed at that day's practices and it's both good and bad (e.g. today josh oliver had a load of drops early but also finished the day with lots of catches and tds in redzone) - obviously going to have biases in what he's watching for and which side of a matchup he's paying attention to (like many of us he was an ardarius washington fan for example)

i guess i also have a natural bullshit filter whenever ive heard this stuff (both this year and in year's previous) because victor and westry have like no shot to make the roster anyway... victor might even struggle to be a practice squad dude

that's a great point on huntley and mcsorely - think the only thing i really learned about either of them in reality was probably from the stadium practice...

other than that all i really know is that lamar's (obviously) miles better than both

i will say that ive mostly never paid attention to the RSR guys other than cole jackson (OL guy) and brian mcfarland (salary cap guy)

I still think they should be better by now.
Downing has gotten a little bit better over the years. Mink only seems to have gotten worse, and seems he’s being slowly relegated to less camera/mic time. He had multiple cringe moments when he made his appearance in the stadium practice.

also question, the news section posts, those accounts aren’t actually mink and downing right?

haha no - it's an automated process which is why they have unclickable profiles

worse thing is that people like Mink and Downing among others haven't improved for as long as they have been here.

mink and downing are employed by the Ravens. They get paid to shill. You think they’ll say anything negative towards anyone on the team? Come on man lol.

Odafe’s spin move at 0:58…….my god

I absolutely understand that but even so they should be better at what they do by now.

Maybe. For me, I just don’t go to them as a source when it comes to evaluation and scouting updates. I mainly just listen to their podcast called the Lounge for interviews with players. I know they’re just there to shill, hype up the players and boost morale. I guess it’s all about the expectations you set for them. Don’t set it too high lol

For people who want to listen to TC notes and follow along, this guy does daily videos of every camp he goes to. Pretty good stuff.

My Ar’darius Washington draft crush not looking to shabby at the moment.

I absolutely don't go to them as a source. That being said, I still feed my Ravens need for material and find myself on BR at times. Yes, the podcast is decent.

Was just about to comment on this. How are we supposed to figure out our OLine if they are actually all hurt? Apparently AV left practice early yesterday as well, but seems to be practicing today. We are down to a potentially knicked up single starting OLineman. This along with data from prior seasons gives me little reason to believe we'll get a healthy season out if these guys and will need to rely on depth. But our depth is bad. It's actually already so obvious that this is the only position group capable of stopping us from winning a superbowl. That group in particular has been destroyed the last 3 years in the playoffs and has had huge impacts on all those losses.

Call me crazy but I'm considering the idea of doing some restructures and making a trade for a guy that we think brings us over the top. I really believe we are that close, but definitely on the outside looking in if things don't dramatically improve and remain positive health wise on the entire OL.

Could not agree more. Even when were healthy this line has struggled. Especially our depth. Many people expect Stanely to fall right back into his old form, but that seems unrealistic given the nature or the injury.

Would love to see a trade but there just aren't many options out there. Team's arent giving up quality linemen
