The 2021 Offseason Thread

Yea i agree across the board. Chances are slim but perhaps we’ll get lucky with the odd scenario of a player not in a teams future plans.

Didn’t we sign Eugene Monroe 5-6 weeks into the season? Although that may not even be a good example because at the time the Jags had Joeckel waiting in the wings. A guy they thought would be a future star …

Correct, but that was a team who had a quality player on an expiring rookie contract, and already drafted his replacement, at a premium position. I don't see teams that have that luxury at the moment. Maybe on the interior, but again, I'm probably not really looking for interior help if I'm the Ravens currently.

In this day and age, if that scenario happened again, I would bet the team would keep both Tackles and just move one to the right side short term.

Thank God this team cares about preseason, otherwise Tucker would have never been, nor would have some of the other contributors to this team. Whatever
Maybe. Ravens were already looking for every possible way to get rid of Cundiff, and it's not like they can't do kicking competitions in non-preseason games. That happens all the time.

It's not that teams don't care about the preseason (though obviously some coaches really don't)... it's that the W/L record in the preseason doesn't matter to them.

A lot of coaches have realized in the last 5-10 years that pretty much everything you can possibly want to see from a player in a preseason game can be simulated in practice. Whether it's joint practices with other teams, game situations, etc., and it can all be done in a much more controlled environment.

I'm fully aware that there's also a lot of coaches who are very antiquated in the way they look at Pro Football, and that evolution isn't something a lot of NFL coaches and teams have really embraced to this point.

Heard. With Type 1, you can be the healthiest eater out there and still have flare ups. Sucks complete ass. It’s not a by product of not controlling eating sugary foods/etc, it’s literally up to your body and you better have foods around like peanut butter etc or you’re done
I have a friend who is a type 1 diabetic and this is very true as he's a very disciplined eater. Good news is the medicine is getting better with more precision medicine vs one size fits all. We aren't there yet, but it's happening. Also Senseonics getting ready to have the FDA approve their 180 day continuous glucose monitoring system (cgm). The 360 cgm's are also around the corner.

Ticker symbol for Senseonics is (SENS).

Thanks man that is all good info to know! It sucks having it honestly but we find ways to cope. Worst part is never knowing when one of the episodes will hit. We can literally be sitting at a desk and a wave of it hits us

My daughter is Type 1. Going into 6th grade. She needs is to be as automatic as possible, because, while she watches what she eats, she is just not on top of it as much as she should be and there doesn't seem to be too much more that we can do about it. It is very frustrating as a parent. F'in scary too! Almost 5 years in now.

Much love my friend. Definitely can be scary I’m sure as a parent and you’ve done everything you can to help but it still happens. I developed mine in mid high school I’d say. Well, at least it got worse around that time to the point of noticing it as something more than just not feeling good

yes, type 1 in kids is way worse than adults. Sorry you and your family, especially your daughter has to go through that.

It breaks my heart when a child has to go through the Type 1 regimen. Good luck to you young sir!

The new closed-loop systems with the dexcom G6 CGM and tandem pump are the closest thing to an artificial pancreas that we have out. The sensor can speak to the pump and let it know if her sugars are running high or low and it can help adjust her insulin accordingly. It isn't perfect but its a start.

I use the Dexcom G6 for managing my Type II Diabetes and ever since I got it, I've been able to keep my A1C in check. Before the CGM, I was all over the place because I hated testing 4-5 times a day. Great management tool indeed.

She's got the G6 and CGM. Her problem is that she is self conscious - doesn't mind people knowing she has diabetes - but doesn't like the advertisement of it that is the carrying of monitors etc. So no fanny packs and we haven't found a purse or bag that she commits to. She's just at that age, I guess. But the troubling thing is that when she's home, she leaves the monitors laying when she's across the house or upstairs. That's what's frustrating to us. She has the tech, but doesn't commit to using it as intended.

the OL we have this year should be much better also.

Getting Zeitler at RG is a massive improvement while either Bozeman or TCC blows away Skura. Worried about RT especially with V being only listed at 280lbs. This is our power running side. Worried if Stanley is still the same after injuries and right now LG is a cluster so lets f'n hope. A move that I'd be interested in seeing is sliding Bozeman back to LG and playing TCC but now with Bozeman's injury.......Jeezus.

Stanley and Nick Boyle. Feel a lot more confident in this group than last years. Starters relegated to depth with improvements in key areas.

Game thoughts for preseason game 2.

First off, this felt much more like a get in, stay healthy, and get out game. Glad that seems to have been the case.

Second, I tried to focus on some more specific bubble players this week, especially as it relates to ST as we all know that's usually a deciding factor for those last few spots.

QB: I think we saw the pros and cons of Huntley. When he's rattled, his mechanics are all off. He still has a roundabout windup to get the ball out and it would worry me that a starting level defense would eat him alive. But he looks just fine as the backup still. He does need to work on lowering that ball though... multiple WRs had to go up and get it and they should be glad they came out healthy.

RB: I'll focus on the two young guys - Williams and McCrary. Both of them continue to look good but have to remember that they are facing guys likely to be out of the league in a couple of weeks. They look like good PS candidates, but I do think Williams still has a chance at the 53. Of note, I didn't chart either guy as playing any ST in the first half, which usually doesn't bode well. But Williams did look really good in pass protection and if he gets an opportunity next week while Hill remains injured, all bets are off. But the ST contributions aren't there for a guy like that to make the roster. But it also wouldn't surprise me to see either play for us at some point this season.

FB: Ben Mason had some really good blocks, but also missed at least 3 that I saw. He was in early on ST but still struggling to see where he fits on this roster.

WR: Nothing really to write home about here. Wallace had a couple of shining plays but then a big missed opportunity in the end zone. No one else really got enough opportunities to do anything. But we also have 4 of the 7 guys out there that are pretty much camp bodies.

TE: Oliver looks to have the TE3 job on lock. The fumble was unfortunate but he's a TE3 and adds some additional pass catching ability to the fold. Tomlinson still looks like the Boyle insurance should he not be able to start the season.

OL: Not as bad as last week but still not all that good. Was hoping to see more push on the right side from the starting unit but didn't see much there. Mekari fared alright. We know he's not a natural T but still somehow looks like the best option on the roster currently. Wanted to see Tyre out there but he was in street clothes on the sideline. On the second unit, Andre Smith remains garbage. Colon seems to have a leg up as the backup C. Schofield turned in a better performance but still looks like he's just eating time with all of our injuries. Sarell is still putting out some shining moments and looks like a good PS guy. Ealy didn't get into the game until very late which seems to indicate he's not in the plans.

DL: Starting unit got some good push on the goal line. Madubuike is so slim and looks like an OLB. Swann got in early just for depth reasons but looks like an interesting player for the PS.

ILB: Queen continues to look a lot more comfortable. Welch continues to be a key contributor early on ST so it's going to be really hard for me to leave him off the 53 once I reevaluate. Not much else to write about here.

OLB: Focusing on the young/fringe guys once again. Oweh looked like he was thinking a little too much tonight. Hayes continues to look like he can be a solid role player for us... continue to be impressed by his pass rush moves. Ferguson also looks significantly slimmed down and put together another solid showing. Chris Smith has been good in early dime packages as a 3T but might be caught in a numbers game. Any other year, we might be singing his praises a lot more.

CB: Preseason Peters don't give a fuck lol. I focused a lot on Chris Westry tonight in all facets. Obviously the long pass down the sideline isn't a good look but he held up in coverage otherwise, although no one was really tested. He did get washed out in the run game a few times. He was on the starting ST unit but still noticed him lacking in his gunner responsibilities. Overall, I see the appeal but just not sure what value he offers other than injury replacement. I'd lean toward him making it but he looks like a weekly inactive until injuries hit. Warrior looks like a fun little CB project. Had some shining moments, but then you also saw him talking with teammates about missed responsibilities. I'm sure we'll continue to see that out on the PS. The big note I have here is Shaun Wade... he didn't get in the game until late. A 5th round pick with his pedigree should be safe but I'm starting to question it. If he does make it, he's probably headed to IR the second a nick happens.

S: Another position where there wasn't much opportunity. Geno Stone was on the 1st ST unit again and was in the 2nd set of S's to enter the game, so he looks to be in good position. Ar'Darius Washington had another splash play but still didn't enter until late and didn't have much run on STs, so he looks more of a PS guy unless they think he can be a future S/slot guy.

ST: I'd be surprised if Verity isn't kicking elsewhere in the NFL in a few weeks.
