Post Orlando Brown Mock

Goddamnit Eric...

I had a mock I was perfectly proud of and then you pull this shit. Don’t get me wrong.. I really like this trade. It’s an A+ grade move. But I am annoyed that I have to do this again.

So... Some picks will still be the same. I will not really spend time defending or justifying the selection.

I will be posting my no-trades mock the day before the draft as a control. But now I have to account for how Eric thinks..

So let’s start off

Round One: Creed Humphrey, C, Oklahoma
The trade does not change my rationale. Center is arguably our biggest position of need. Humphrey is a dream fit for this scheme. I’d suggest that we trade back to take him but since Green Bay hates WRs, and they also need a center... They’d take him and we’d be left with nothing. Go read my other mock to understand why I did this.

Now.... For the fun.

The Baltimore Ravens trade the 31st pick in the draft to Miami for pick 36, and pick 81(round 3).

No. The trade value chart says we get a steal. But Miami has done this type of thing before. As a young team that is seemingly set at the QB position that has very few needs, they might be willing to give up a nice haul to move back up into the first again for an (overrated) pass rusher or something. We get another third rounder for our trouble and Miami still has a ton of picks..

Moving on
With the 36th pick in the draft the Baltimore Ravens...... Hold on for a minute.

The Baltimore Ravens trade the 36th pick in the draft to San Francisco for pick 43, and pick 117(round 4).

I expect Eric to pull shennangins like this to reload depth in the middle rounds. You will not hear me complain either. That said I will stop the buck here.

Round 2: Joe Tryon, Washington, Edge.
Again, Tylan Wallace is my Devin Duvernay(as in he is one of my favorite players. Very different types of receivers though). But Tryon keeps going mid round, and I think he’s one of the only Edge players in this draft who’s worth a damn. I still think we sign Justin Houston and McPhee takes the other starting edge spot, but Tryon gives us our most athletic edge rusher since Suggs, and his skillset is similar to Judon’s... Minus Judon’s awful attitude.... And unlike Judon he can actually beat tackles one on one and doesn’t need to blitz to get sacks... He also can set an edge in the run game unlike Judon.

You know this edge class really sucks but I think Tryon is a stud. I think he’s a first round level prospect who falls to the mid second round due to opting out. His production doesn’t match his tape, but his tape is phenomenal in short bursts. He’s a bit of a project but the type of project that can still play day 1. He’s like if your neighbor gifts you a house plant at the halfway point. It’s still functional but you need to let him grow a little. Taking him here feels right..

Okay Eric. I gave you three third round picks.. Make them count

Round 3(From Miami): Jackson Carman, OT, Clemson
I was tempted to put Walker Little here again because he’s a genuinely hard projection but I decided on a simpler and more reasonable approach. I will replace Orlando Brown... With Orlando Brown who’s more athletic and three inches shorter. If there’s a RT prospect who can come in and give you exactly what Brown had without the athletic issues in a deeper class you take him. Carman, like brown, is better at RT than he is a LT, but he can play there in a pinch. He’s well coached and fundamentally sound, he has a bit of a mean streak, and is solid at getting to the second level. Again, a bit of a project but now that we know Alejandro is coming he can ride the bench for a year and he gives us a quality depth piece. In round three if you get a player who could easily develop into a starting caliber swing tackle it’s an absolute no-brainer. Moving on.

Round Three(From KC): Josh Palmer, WR, Tennessee
This pick is the same for the same reason, just in a different spot. We really need an X style WR.... That said.

Round Three(Comp): Amari Rodgers, WR, Clemson
This makes too much sense. We just hired his dad. But more importantly, Rodgers is just very, very good. He runs every route in the book, he’s very smart, he’s a good, but not great athlete, and he has underrated long speed. He’s not a contested catches monster, but he can do it. He’s the complete package. He’s probably the day one best route runner on the roster(other than Watkins). This is a good move at every level. Helps the WR corps adjust, gives us a good talent. I have not given up on Duvernay at all. But Rodgers in my eyes is one of the most underrated prospects in the whole draft. I’ll take that in a heartbeat and not complain.

...Three fourth rounders too. Thank you Kansas City for giving up a premium hull...

Round Four(From San Francisco): Demetric Felton, UCLA, RB/WR
Felton might go in the third round, but I don’t see it. What I do know is even with my UCLA bias, I REALLY like him. Not sure if he has a true position, but if Duvernay/Proche don’t work out in the slot, I think he fills that role. He’s elusive and works well after the catch. This guy has John Harbaugh written all over him though? He’s basically a better version of Justice Hill and gives Lamar another reliable weapon out of the backfield. He also plays ST and could be a very good punt returner/kick returner next to Duvernay. Having watched every UCLA game, he had no offensive line, meaning that he might be even better than expected as a runner. This is the type of pick that everyone shrugs their shoulders at and goes “...That’s the ravens” I guess.

Round Four(From Kansas City): Kary Vincent Jr, CB, LSU
Ladies and gentlemen, your answer to the Chiefs uber fast WR corps. Vincent Jr. Is a track star who actually can play corner. I like Tavon Young as much as the next guy, but we needed more guys in the slot this year. Averett and Jimmy returning are big, and Marlon and Peters is still the best tandem in the whole league, I will not dispute that. We need a guy in case Tavon gets hurt again. He plays like a raven, that’s for sure. Not afraid of contact, smart, fast, hits hard, fundamentally sound, decent ball skills(if he intercepts it jumping a route, he’s basically gone. Here’s your answer if Tavon goes down again.

Round Four: Alaric Jackson, OT, Iowa
Jackson REALLY reminds me of Orlando Brown in some ways. Big player, well coached, not a good athlete, but wins with superior technique and size. I think if he athletically tests poorly he’s a guy who can go a lot lower in the draft than he should. Even them, the team desperately needs tackle depth more than they need a G if we are being totally honest.

Round Five: Dayo Odeyingbo, DE, Vanderbilt

Moved this pick up but it’s the same. Moving on.

Round Five(Comp): Tyler Shelvin, NT, LSU
See everything for the Jordan Scott selection and move it here

Round Six: Hamilcar Rashed Jr., LB, Oregon State

I don’t think anyone has told this guy that he’s 235 pounds. Because he doesn’t know. He had a down year this year, but this guy just POPS OFF on tape. He’s a textbook run defender, somehow given that he’s undersized. He’s good in coverage in the flat, he’s explosive, and he has a good bulrush for someone who’s only 235 pounds. If you get 15 pounds of muscle put onto this guy and he doesn’t lose his explosiveness, I wish you luck. He has it all, pass rushing moves, well coached. Problem? Too undersized to go any earlier. He’s a ST and pass rush specialist at best right now. Purely a project. NFL network has him as a project type.. that seems about right. I like him a lot but you need to take care of business.

Hall of Famer
Nearly every single player mocked looks like they should go multiple rounds earlier. Tryon falling beyond 40 is hard to believe, Rodgers has no shot at getting all the way to round 3, odeyingbo could be a round 5 but he really doesn’t feel like round 5 with his upside and versatility, and rashed is just not a 6th rounder, not a chance lol, I wouldn’t be shocked if a team took him late second, but more realistically I think he’s a 4 at the absolute latest

I have us going Tryon/Humphrey in round one without a trade.
I do agree that Dayo goes pretty early. Maybe in the bottom of round three....Lost is purple pitta bread?

I think Tryon is going in the first and wouldn't be surprised if we pick him at 31 if we can't trade down. Agree with the Creed Humphrey pick also and I'mm a big fan of Josh Palmer among your other picks.
