Great pick!

Gonna just post my notes:

  • 6’3 261

  • Bendy with burst, power and lateral quickness but not overly speedy

  • Explosion is inconsistent – some reps show off great explosion but not often

  • Show flexibility and savvy to knife through gaps and create penetration in the run game

  • Seems to lose the ball carrier after penetrating though

  • Strong at the point of attack and has pop in his hands when he stacks and sheds violently at times (sometimes can get locked in and driven off the line)

  • Disciplined when left unblocked and good lateral movement when squeezing

  • Some snaps dropping into coverage and was given some time at LB for 1v1s in coverage at the senior bowl

  • Has rushed from multiple spots all across the line

  • Shows real power in his hands with some of his strikes

  • Decent get-off

  • Savvy pass rusher – will attack what the offensive lineman opens and will adjust mid-rush/counter well – uses speed-to-power to punish tackles who over-react to his threat outside and lose leverage or he’ll cross face to get inside – bends well when turning the corner and combines the bend with good hand usage

  • Had a really good senior bowl showing off power, hands and quickness at different points

  • Not a spectacular athlete which might limit his potential ceiling – but has enough traits to be intriguing

  • Coming off a torn labrum
He's a great fit here. Developmental player with lots of traits that we often covet. Especially in day 3 prospects at OLB. When EDC said in the pre-draft presser that we know what makes a good OLB for the Ravens, Daelin Hayes was immediately who I thought of.

Ravens Ring of Honor
Just watched a little bit of him, really like his ability to drop in coverage. Knows spacing really well

He can come in and at least somewhat fill the Judon role. Seems like he won’t catch as many penalties as judon did, hopefully

I like the pick, stout defender and similar sparq score to Judon.

In recent years I've come to really appreciate strong edge setters with some rush ability, the fit and value just makes sense. Thats also why I was against a rush specialist like Ngakoue.

Loved hayes from day one, he struck me as a classic ravens OLB from the second I turned on the film. As a rusher, frankly, he’s quite a bit like Judon, good size and length, can bring a good jump from time to time and can use good hands, bendy, works both inside and outside, not a spectacular speed rusher, not a bull rusher, but he has a few tools on his belt to beat you in a number of ways if you give him an in, I used Judon as a similarity but Judon is probably more physical by quite a bit, where hayes could be a potential upgrade is in coverage where he is seriously good, like I believe he’s got a spot on the 53 early because he’s a blitz and coverage weapon, we have an extremely versatile LB corps with this addition. Bowser, queen, and hayes are 3 guys who blitz VERY well and 1 is an absolute stud in coverage, the other has sky high potential if he can be more decisive in coverage, the third is a day 3 rookie who has day 2 coverage ability on film.

really fun addition and I’ve wanted him here for a long time

he's an intelligent reactive rusher - not winning often with explosion although there are a couple of noteworthy reps where he wins with burst around the edge - but mostly he's winning by reacting and responding to the tackle and using his hands to defeat the block - attacks with a plan but is able to adjust and react mid-rush

i like the pop he gets with his hands at the point of attack - some nice power there in both the running and passing game - i like his upside as an edge setter too

and as you say he's got a ton of nice work in coverage (more than the vast majority of the class)

i mean he had the jump cross chop which he was amazing at - but it's most effective vs deeper dropping QBs and the ravens defence forces Qbs to get the ball out quickly which probably limited his ability to get home
Ngakoue was a mahomes signing, and we never got our chance to use him. Not that we would’ve anyway considering we faced an even more pass happy team In Buffalo and we barely used him
