Next Up: vs Vikings

Hunter might be out for the season. Barr was looking fast last night and not second guessing at all. Secondary didn’t play well. Barr and Everson were the bright spots. Best friend is a Vikings fan and said we should have a field day against their defense. Hopefully OUR defense shows the fuck up

hunter missing would be big - vikings have the highest pressure rate in the league with him in that lineup

this is promising news

also worth pointing out that harbs talked about ju'wuan james and that he's not had any setbacks and is running - still looking at december at the earliest for a potential return but i just assumed he was gone for the year but that could/would be a huge boon if he's able to return this season

Some interesting roster moves (and lack thereof) today.

Obviously Tomlinson being moved is a good sign for Boyle. Would expect Tomlinson to still get called up from the PS and maybe return to the 53 at a later date.

The big non-move is that Mekari is still on the active roster. You'd think if they thought he was going to be out for some time, they'd have put him on IR already to start that clock. Hopefully that's a sign it isn't as severe as we thought. Would still expect him out this week but hopefully not much longer.

That leaves us with 50 on the roster - 2 of those spots will surely go to Boyle and Wolfe in the next week or two. Harrison will need to return at some point as well but his status is obviously up in the air.

Big thing will be the OL. If Mekari is out, you need to add 2 from the PS to get to your 8 on gamedays. Might be forced to move someone like Ogbuehi up to the 53 at some point soon if you want some of the other PS guys (Sharpe, Tomlinson, etc.) to continue the rotation.

Oh my sweet fuck here it is boys, James returns for the first playoff game and we shift the line and Lamar has all day to throw, sounds familiar

Probably because its somewhat predictable. It's like a pro sports bettors paradise. Anytime you get a big, emotional win over a tough opponent, the next week, teams typically play like shit. Maybe the expectation isn't that they'd lose, but I was in very early on hammering betting the Jets at like a +10 point spread or whatever it was.
It's the NFL. It's the ultimate week to week league. Teams are never as good as the best you saw them (like we're not as good as what you saw us to do the Chargers), but they're also never as bad as what the worst you saw them at (like us against the Bengals, or maybe the Raiders). It's a season of peaks and valleys. Nobody blows out everybody all the time, and nobody gets blown out all the time.

There was no earthly reason for the Packers to beat the Cardinals on Thursday. But they did.
There was no earthly reason for Trevor Siemian and Jameis Winston to outplay Tom Brady on Sunday. But they did.
There was no earthly reason for the Vikings to lose at home to a QB who had never thrown an NFL pass off a bye week. But they did.
There's no reason for the Lions, who have been very competitive in losses to the Rams, Ravens and Packers, to lose by 38 at home to the Eagles, who scored 44 points, double the most they've scored in any week since week 1. But they did.

And these examples are just from one week. I can give you multiple from any week of any season.

Most analysts don't care about whether the Bengals lose to the Jets because good teams lose to bad teams every week, and it's just for the course during a season. It's an exception to the rule, not the rule. It's not like anybody should write off the Bengals because of one bad loss, just like nobody really cared that much that the Ravens lost to the Bengals either. It's a divisional game. I'm sure the Ravens will lose one or two more divisional games before the end of the year. That's expected.

Any time any NFL "fan" tells you that they're certain something is going to happen because "well look what X team did to Y team, that means Z team has no shot", look them in the eye, call them a moron, and then bet a large sum of money against what they think. You'll thank me later.
I agree about the transitive property not applying but the Jets didn’t have their best offensive player and had a 3rd string QB playing. The Bengals are beyond pathetic to drop that one

And that beyond pathetic team waxed us 7 days earlier. So people can say what they want about individual performances, but that's why smart fans don't care about isolating individual games. They look at the totality of the season, and will focus more against the quality teams they beat instead of the bad teams they lost to.

It highlights their ultimate weakness, Zac Taylor. Their best win is against a team with 17 on IR

Well they don't make the schedule, so where are their other opportunities for better wins? They've basically played two good teams this year... the Packers and the Ravens. They looked very, very, very good in both.
If we're being objective about it...
Bengals are 2-1 against current playoff teams.
Ravens are 1-2 against current playoff teams.
Buffalo is 0-2 against current playoff teams.
Raiders are 2-1 against current playoff teams.
Titans are 1-1 against current playoff teams.
Steelers are 1-3 against current playoff teams.
Chargers are 1-2 against current playoff teams.

So basically, the Bengals are with the Raiders as being the only teams in the AFC playoff picture (at the moment) with winning records against actual playoff teams.

If Mason Crosby doesn’t miss 4 FGs, that game doesn’t go to OT. They’re also very fortunate to beat the Jaguars and certainly the Vikings. Buffalo is the best team right now.

Yeah, thats not how it works.
Crosby missed two FGs in regulation, and McPherson missed one. All were when the game was tied and in the 4th quarter. If the game didn't go to OT, a three point loss to the Packers would still be a pretty strong achievement for a team that nobody was taking seriously going into the season or even early in the season.

Maybe Buffalo is the best team right now, and yet, the Bengals resume looks considerably better than the Bills does right now. Four of Buffalo's five wins have comes against the Dolphins, Texans, and Redskins, who are a combined 4-20 on the year. Their "signature win" is against KC, a .500 team.

I put zero stock into whether a team "almost lost to" or "almost beat" or blah blah blah another team. That basically puts the Ravens as a 2 win team with that narrative.

Shouldn’t even matter who’s the “best” - every single team in the AFC is beatable. There’s no one that should scare anyone right now, including us.

The Bills will be the 1 seed 9/10x with their schedule. They have the Bucs and that’s about it left, hopefully NE can play spoiler

I’m just putting some context on the Bengals having seen all their games this year. The Bills are a better team this year. Also the Colts may very well be a playoff team by years end

Wouldn't get your hopes up on the Colts. They shot themselves in the foot big time by not beating the Titans this past week. Very well may have ended their season. They're now 3 games down in the division race, Titans own any tiebreaker over them, and they still have Buffalo, Tampa, Arizona, New England and the Raiders on their schedule.

I’d like to avoid the Bengals and Chiefs in the playoffs after seeing our defense against them. I know LV did well too but I at least saw a glimpse of us really containing Carr and I don’t think Lamar will lose again to these guys.

I think we will walk right into Cincinnati and beat them the next time we play them. Any given Sunday and we will have a better game plan next time.

Any news on Sammy and Murray? If we could get back Wolfe, Westry, Boyle, Sammy, and Murray that would put us so much closer to our top ability to perform.

Plus Bateman being in the mix now, queen at his more natural position, bynes handling the Mike duties quite well, I think we should see the team take a big step forward and go on a tear. I just think this teams got something special brewing even with the injuries, they just need to keep making their adjustments and keep settling in together, getting starters and key rotation guys on the field is the only way to do that

Totally agree
