Next Up: @ Bears

i mean the way audibles normally work is you only have 1 check for your play so lamar can make the reads and make checks but unless he's just doing a 1-man check route to hollywood or someone in the flat vs off-coverage then there's only so much he can do at the line beyond running the designed check

and lamar was checking a lot vs the dolphins - and most of them were good checks - we just didnt execute or the dolphins had a better call than us

i do think we should be supplementing (or somewhat replacing) the running game with quick passes to the perimeter to duvernay
Agree. My point was that Roman doesn't have the luxury of waiting until the Ravens break huddle, see what the Dolphins line up in, and then make or change a play call. If they're showing Cover 0, it's usually after our play has been called and Lamar no longer has communication with the Roman via the mic.

Either Roman has to anticipate a Cover 0 and draw up a play to beat it (and hope he's not wrong), or they have to practice Lamar checking to a different play to beat it, and then yes, execute on it. Would seem the latter isn't happening enough.

But I think it sort of defeats the notion that Roman is the answer to the problem. He's limited in what he can do against a disguised defensive look. You see great OC's get fooled by our pressures all the time. This is why.

Agree totally with down/distance. You start showing 3rd and 3, 3rd and 4, etc., you'll see a lot less of these looks. Because pretty much any completion is likely to beat that coverage, even if it's a short one. Teams are happy to see you complete a 6 yard pass on 3rd and 8 out of Cover 0. They're not happy on 3rd and 5.

tbf to flores and the dolphins - it's not like they copied the ravens (just feels that way because they did it to us) - flores just ran an even more aggressive version of the patriot's defence he ran back in new england

but you're absolutely right about watkins - 7 points vs the cover-0 blitz on that first drive with a kill-shot on 3rd and long in that situation probably completely alters the game
In terms of the deceptive looks it's not the same totally, but I felt like they played a similar game, kept giving us a look we thought they had and fooled us by either dropping a DL into coverage or blitzing on the opposite side; OL communication was poor this game but I think they were surprised about seeing a DL drop into coverage 18 times. There's nothing unique about cover 0 but Miami just put together something that we didn't see and took advantage.

The Watkins play was so massive, I seriously wish he got that but more than that I wish it was Hollywood who ran that route. Watkins also seemed to have lost track of the Football and underestimated his positioning on the field for it and probably thought it went out of bounds. Hollywood is an elite tracker of the football and one of the best over the shoulder catchers in this league, coupled with his speed and he's probably making that play.

I mean the slightly self-inflicted issue here is to do with the pace of the play calls coming into the huddle (if they were actually worried about needing to hand-hold Lamar through the plays which I don’t think they need to or want to at all)

If they really wanted they could get them to the line faster and Roman can still give comms to Lamar before the speaker gets cut off

but I don’t think he, harbs or Lamar are interested in doing that at all - I’m not worried about that side of things at all - if I was then I’d have doubts about Lamar as a franchise qb and I have no doubts about that at all

I really don’t think there’s a structural issue here to be fixed - I think what was disappointing was that we didn’t have the ability to solve the issue despite seeing that look 30-40 times - it’s not that I need Roman to adjust mid-play but at a certain point what the dolphins are doing is no surprise so we have to find a way to beat it - that’s the disappointment for me

was disappointing not to see Roman spread the defence out to demystify some of those disguised pressure looks and make the dolphins declare earlier - if Lamar knows where the blitzer’s coming pre-snap from I back him to deal with that guy 95% of the time and if it’s post-snap if they’re spread out that extra split second gives Lamar a hair more time too

but Lamar (and everyone else on offence too tbh) share at least as much of the blame for the poor execution and mistakes

if I’m honest though I think Watkins is a big reason it didn’t work - he had a calamitous game in only 16 snaps and he’s been one of the savviest “hot” outlets early in the year and had good chemistry with Lamar early in pressure situations (and he’s been really good at it with the chiefs too) - he clearly wasn’t back properly and I think that had a major impact

Not the best of news

Lamar got the worst immune system of all time

Are you guys bullish on this game, especially with both Bozeman and Lamar calling in sick? WTF is wrong with Lamar's periodic sickness episodes. I told his mother repeatedly to breast feed him and she declined. Now, you see what that has gotten Lamar? No immunity! Sheesh!

So it’s just miscommunication and poor tackling? Am I dumb for thinking Wink’s scheme is fine?

No you are not. It looks more and more like it's either A. lack of talent or B. poor tackling and communication. At times the defense looks very good and makes plays in the back and field and others they just allow someone to run free

I would assume Mekari still probably isn't super likely to be back this week, but would put him in a great spot to return for the Cleveland game.

I said a few weeks back the goal for me is to be as healthy as possible for the home-stretch starting Thanksgiving weekend. Looks like that's coming to fruition.
Hope you are right because the number of injuries on our team is horrific.
