2024 Training Camp

I highly doubt they’re giving the first team guard reps all training camp to a guy they want/expect to start at RT, especially a guy who’s got like 5 starts to his name. Mekari, sure, but faalele I would think is repping at RT if the coaches see him starting there, bad idea to not let the dude practice his position for his first season starting

100% - if this was more of a battle, they'd be splitting reps

only way this is possible right now is they're trying to build chemistry with rosengarten in the 2s - feels pretty unlikely though

if that was the case though, it would have been faalele or sala mostly with the 1s in OTAs and he'd have taken over by now in camp

i cant really imagine faalele at guard but that looks like what's happening

based on OTAs i'd have said the most likely starting 5 was: Stanley, Jones, Lindy, Cleveland, Faalele
based on camp so far, looks like: Stanley, Vorhees, Lindy, Faalele, Mekari

think mekari and rosengarten might end up being a bit like james hurst and orlando brown during that 1st season... might be that it takes rosengarten half the season to take over that starting spot and push mekari back into the preferred 6th OL role
I was wondering all along if Rosengarten and Mekari may become the new James Hurst / Orlando Brown. Of course Brown took over when James Hurst went down with an injury.

Sounds like Faalele started moving to G in the later portions of minicamp for what it’s worth.

This part is strictly opinion, but I’m guessing they didn’t like what they saw from Cleveland (effort, skill, whatever) and started experimenting at that point.

Sounds like he unknowingly popped a ligament in the knee during yesterday's practice
Hamm is cooked. Apparently he always makes such a meal of injuries by over acting that the players describe it as pulling a Hammy.

That's was I would have said if I was the type of heartless bastard who uses a heart breaking injury to a young player as a source of cheap puns.

Parsing through some pictures and videos, looks like the OL config over the last couple of days has been...

1st team: Stanley, Vorhees, Linderbaum, Faalele, Mekari
2nd team: Jones, Cleveland, Samac/Manning, Sala/Manning, Rosengarten

Mostly posting because it seems interesting that Cleveland is on the left side in everything I've seen. Lots more of Sala and Manning next to Rosengarten. Manning seems to be a guy earning some reps. All of the other UDFAs/young guys seem like afterthoughts.

wild that sala's getting the RG reps over Cleveland with the 2s

quite a fall from grace... again

Maybe Cleveland is not the guy. Idk. I also don't care to argue that point at all. The thing I can't fathom though is how Faalele is the 1 at RG right now if people's suspicions are true. How would it not be Sala? How would it not be Vorhees with Jones at LG? Idk I just can't imagine in any way the type of OL that monken wants is Faalele at RG.

well faalele doesnt really fit as a monken RT - probably more likely a RG in the scheme

probably not what they envisioned

I don't think Faalele is necessarily a misfit at G if you're willing to overlook his size. He's actually got pretty good feet (naturally - mechanically is a different question) and would seemingly operate well on the move. I'd guess the upside is high enough to take the chance vs. Jones who has never been good at G and Sala who has plenty of room to grow but showed last year that there's still a lot of work to be done.

No mistakes. Just happy little accidents...

and body wise, he and sala arent completely unalike either - and faalele is in year 3 and was further along than sala when he came out

sala's only advantage over faalele is that he's been converting to RG for a year rather than an offseason

Yep. Faalele is certainly a very large human but that doesn't automatically mean he's some slow footed goon. I'd actually feel good about his ability on pulls. Bigger concern would be his bend moving inside but I guess we'll see how that looks in a little over a week.

Daniel has Tongan bloodlines, he'll be fine. ;)

It's still early but it also looks like it's going to be very difficult for a UDFA to crack the original 53 this year. I'm not sure I see anyone that's truly in the hunt right now.

Guys like Joe Evans, Yvandy Rigby, and Beau Brade probably have the best shot on paper due to potential ST contributions and thinner depth charts in front of them, but not much positive news coming out of any of those names.
