2024 Training Camp

ILB isn't too hard for me. Question really seems to be Ross as ILB5 or not, and I'm not sure it matters too much since that would be a ST add.

WR and OL are the clear hard ones.

DB is complicated by health more than anything.

ILB partly depends on how you feel about Harrison

DB is dictated partly by a numbers game but as you say, the health of Maulet, TJ Tampa and now Hamilton is the biggest complicating factor

Idk that OL looks too hard - the first 8 OL look pretty nailed on - only questions remaining are keeping 9 vs 10 and which of Samac, Sala and Manning make it

This is where I’m at. Was excited when we drafted him. Was pounding the table for Ali or Tyrone Tracy at that pick… but seems like it’s a meh pick atm. Didn’t see much in game 1

Harbaugh said Faalele passed the RG test.

Said Cleveland looked good at C, maybe he's a center. He can also play G.

Said Roger is gonna get more snaps next game.

Said Walker is gonna get more snaps next game.

Said Johmson had to deal with the WRs running wrong routes.

I read that Lamar threw his helmet off pissed off that Nelson dropped a deep pass right in his hands.

Apparently Nelson dropped a deep pass twice.
Par for the course with Nelly. Viable WR3 at best, but will have a case of dropsies until the day he retires. Ah the Steelers road game last year....

I like Nelly as a 4 but he scares me to death as a 3 and will probably be a 2 at some point when Bate gets on his bullshit

They clearly want Rosengarten to win that job, which would really help open up the depth. Cleveland could go back to G or be backup C. Mekari could play anywhere and allows you to go back to Cleveland at RG, since Mekari could take C snaps at that stage. Faalele could work both G and T if they don't anoint him the RG. Jones seems a safe bet at T

I know it's really easy to complain about injuries, but the 49ers had to cancel joint practices this upcoming week because they don't have enough healthy bodies to get through it.

We've made a clear shift in not pushing guys to get back either. They get ramped back up very slowly during this stage of the season and I respect that.

Completely agree.

Have to think Sala and Samac are in danger.

Think Sala is for sure. Samac is an interesting case because apparently he’s been working back from his college injury still and they’ve slow played him a bit. Apparently he hasn’t been fully participating consistently in camp until recently.

I feel like Sala has been so wayward and unruly in his technique, that it'd be hard to eye an open spot of him. At this juncture, I'd rather have Samac.

Sala has the versatility going for him at least. But I agree. Weirdly think that as we’re currently constructed, a C that may be able to play some G is more valuable than yet another G/T.

Maybe the Dalcourt over Samac thing shouldn't be overlooked too much. Apparently it's been that way in camp recently too.

All in all, the options for OL9 are very uninspiring.

Sala doesn't seem to have improved much in the last year and Manning is a G that is only a G (apparently the C experiment with him didn't go well). Seems we could be leaning toward an outside addition.

Are there any legitimate options out there?

OT (depending where you deploy other guys):
David Bakhtiari, Donovan Smith, DJ Humphries, Charles Leno, Billy Turner

OG:
Mark Glowinski, Phil Haynes, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, Matt Feiler, Trai Turner, Gabe Jackson

C:
Brian Allen, Mason Cole, Scott Quessenberry, Connor McGovern

Pretty much everyone is old, has injury concerns, or both. Outside of the FA market, a number of teams drafted OL heavy and will likely look to move on from some mainstays if we want to swing a trade.
