I think there were a lot of blocking issues that live may have looked like RR but were in fact problems that came from elsewhere e.g. vorhees or the TEs

Was obviously the case from like the first snap where RR had a textbook reach block but the play got 1 yard because the rest of the OL couldn’t secure their guys

He had one play early that made no sense to me, the edge crashed the B gap and Roger overreacted and got too close to faalele and almost ended up behind him, leaving a huge outside lane for the edge to counter with, he went back outside and Roger gave up an easy pressure, it was just weird looking, and it happened early and definitely had me over critical the rest of the time I watched him.

I love his potential in zone though, he isn’t seen as a run blocker now for obvious reasons but he could be a real weapon in a horizontal based run game, get a guy who’s more athletic and mobile than faalele at RG and we could be cooking with a ZBS that really stretches the front to the point that the defense can’t hold their gaps, and breaks big runs frequently, rosengarten and linderbaum would be key players to weaponizing the OL for this.

He’s got incredible skill in pass pro, I do still worry about him against certain edge rushers though, he wasn’t nearly as bad as I initially thought but he’s still light in the ass to the point that idk if he’s gonna be viable against a Myles Garrett, it would be a massive “welcome to the nfl” moment for him.

That first play I don’t even think was his fault

There was pressure inside on the other side and if JJ isn’t flushed right then RR is in good position - I’d charge that pressure to the a gap or the QB over him

Faalele has also been a fairly pleasant tape experience so far - a couple of slow foot reps on a stunt and an outside zone but has looked great when left big vs big and has used his length and feet really well in pass pro - and while it’s mostly been against backups it looked the same vs Jalen Carter too which is really promising

Well how good will the Henry signing be if the oline sucks ? And it doesn't look good at the moment.

I’m pretty sure I’m referring to a different play, are you talking about the one where vorhees whiffed?
 
Was texting with a friend this morning and we got onto a convo about Tez Walker. At what point do you just accept that he's probably not helping you early in the season? Cut day is in 8 days and he's hardly been healthy. Even when he has been healthy, he hasn't done much. Do you just IR him and see if the need arises later in the season?

Part of me wanted to say no but then I'm looking at the depth chart, and if you have Tez and Harty (more RS) occupying roster spots, your 4th WR is then probably Tylan and you have virtually no depth after that. I'd guess you theoretically could handshake one of the vets to the PS, but it's still not a great situation as far as depth goes.

His phantom injury is coming soon, we've seen this year after year. Jaele Scott (spelling is off) and tylan Wallace come to the top of my head without any hard thinking

It's tough because the best way that he develops is by being on the practice field, and there's enough there that I'd want to keep him playing football instead of the alternative. But you have to think about this year too and I'd guess there are some major questions as to whether or not he can help.

Alright did an OL watch from game 2 and it wasn't quite as bad as I originally thought...

Faalele was much more solid than I thought. As others have said, he seems to be just a step too late on a lot of his pulls and such, but he looks really solid otherwise.

Vorhees is the bigger concern, and even all of that looks correctable. Gets a little too bendy and for some reason launches his hands up instead of into the body.

Rosengarten I'm still somewhere in the middle. I think in an ideal world, he'd probably sit the first few weeks and then take over as everyone else gets a little more comfortable. But I think he'll be out there week 1, albeit probably with some growing pains.

There are such limited reps for the guys vying for OL9, but I think I'd give the edge to Samac based on his play. Think there's something to work with there, while Manning feels more JAG-y and Sala just doesn't seem to have improved much.

As a side note, I couldn't help but notice Chris Collier in pass pro while watching these guys. He's not a huge guy but there's no fear doing his job, which is impressive coming from such a tiny school where guys that size and speed typically aren't running right at him.
