I agree Peanut doesn't make sense in any way as a play caller, particularly because he's not a good 3-down candidate at either MLB or WLB. But he's done a good bit to increase his own value since Cincinnati. If Mosley isn't resigned (and I'm assuming Weddle goes as well), Jefferson may be the most likely to take over play calling. In truth, it's him, a rookie Mike, or Kenny Young sliding to MLB.

I believe the low tender was approximately $1.8M in 2017 when Jensen played for it. And I agree it's possible the 3 players could be Ravens next year for under $5M. Again, it's getting more production with less risk at half or less of the cost of a single 3-down WLB.

I'm OK investing in one ILB spot, but I don't think it makes competitive sense to splurge on both ILB spots in today's NFL.

Yes, but who do you have calling the defense. During that one game he missed time followinhnthe Bengals game it was Weddle who called the d and during the Bengals game in the 2nd qtr it was awful when peanut and young sharedmthe duties.

I agree and don’t think he gets a 2nd round tender.

i think it's a good exercise in indicating that you can afford to pay one linebacker spot because you can basically stream the other linebacker spot with more specialised situational play because of the prominence of dime and nickel defences

obviously it's different in a 4-3 but we dont run a 3 off-ball linebacker set

in this situation i would assume that we re-sign mosley because if not we're missing a MLB anyway and to be fair to filmstudy he did specify WLB

i think it's unlikely CJ and Weddle are both gone - at this point i'd be shocked if CJ wasn't a raven at least until the new CBA but i suppose stranger things have happened

i think value-wise the Ravens will see this inside linebacker situation similar to you - that they are comfortable with the 4 guys (5 if you include Board) at the position and will re-sign mosley because there's nothing better on the market and expending high draft picks on non-generational talents at inside linebacker is a massive value risk in the NFL as it currently stands especially when picking towards the end of the first round (which is likely where the ravens will be picking) - Dallas got lucky twice recently in that sense with Leighton Vander-Esch (raw prospect) and Jaylon Smith (nobody knew if he'd ever recover from his injury from his final year in college) but that is the exception

in the NFL at the moment i'd say there are probably 28-29 teams that operate in a predominantly passing-led offence which reduces the need for 2 3-down linebackers because as the ravens have found the last 2 years you can get better production with a dimebacker - it's the same idea that has led to teams like atlanta converting safeties to linebacker for that very reason (in fact the ravens technically did that with onwuasor too) and it's why i agree with you that there's no need to over-invest both financially against the cap and also with draft capital into the WLB spot

the true question to me is how much value does the MLB have i suppose in a 3-4 defence and is the 3rd round comp pick you get from allowing CJ to leave a valid way of retooling that position by proxy... or just recouping value...

One point is that we may not have comp picks next year due to the amount of space we have this year. It’s quite possible we use it on free agents. Then again we may end up using it on cap cuts.

Great point, but they can use a lot of their cap space locking up some of their young defenders as cornerstone players. This could be an offseason they sign Judon, Tavon Young, ZSmith, or Pierce. They won't cost the Ravens in the comp pick formula.

All four you mentioned deserve to remain Ravens and keep our defensive mojo going....
