Before the season began, I actually thought signing Flacco would have been a great move by the Ravens. If Lamar went down for the season, at least you would still have a fighter's chance of making the playoffs. As it stands right now, yes, without admitting as much, they surrender the season. Josh Johnson is not going to lead anyone to the promised land.

Flacco would get killed with this oline. If Lamar gets sacked 3 times in game , Joe would make it 6

I think asking Flacco to operate in this offense is a pipe dream. There’s a reason they’re sticking with guys like Josh Johnson at this stage. There needs to be some level of prerequisite athleticism.

That's true but you can say that about almost any offense today. Lamar revolutionized the position. Johnson is garbage and the season is over if he has to lead this offense. I think Flacco would have at least kept them competitive.

It’s deeper than that though. You need someone who can execute the offensive system without having to make wholesale changes. That’s why when Lamar came in late in 2018, that scheme was as vanilla as it got.

You're right but it's fun to imagine Flacco coming in for a few games with this set of playmakers. The average Flacco-era WR1 would be fighting Agholor for the #4 role, and his average TE1 would be battling Kolar to be #3, and even Ray Rice wasn't Derrick Henry.

You know it's not good when the ref assigned to your game is known for having terrible roughing the passer calls. Adrian Hill is the official for our game and it seems he's known for terrible roughing the passer calls. He was also the ref a couple weeks back that Aaron Rodgers criticized for the over 200 yards of penalties during the Jets-Bills MNF game.

Found some interesting penalty numbers about Adrian Hill from Sharp Football Analysis...

• Adrian Hill’s crew is co-ranked second for offensive holding penalties per game. However, Hill’s crew has assessed 68% of these on the road team in 2024, well above the NFL average of 53%.
• The Ravens rank No.1 for offensive holding penalties per game, but an overwhelming 78% have occurred on the road. The Ravens have the largest home versus road splits of any team in the all-important category of offensive holding.
• The Ravens rank second for roughing the passer penalties. Like offensive holding, this is a road issue for this team. They have not been penalized for roughing the passer at home.
• The Broncos, and more specifically Bo Nix, have yet to be the beneficiary of a roughing the passer penalty in the 2024 season.
• The Broncos and Ravens defensive units are co-ranked third overall in surrendering automatic first downs via penalties.
• The Broncos offense ranks 32nd as a beneficiary of automatic first downs via penalties. This isn’t a surprise to anyone who’s watched the risk-averse Denver offense. It’s a big break for a Ravens secondary that has had issues over the past few games.

Marcus Mariota, Trey Lance, Josh Dobbs are really the only names that come to mind.

I sure hope our D doesn’t turn Bo Nix into Johnny Elway . I really hope we win the toss and defer . Let’s see what the D can do .
