The Defence, the Turnovers, and the Tucker

I have no idea what to even make of Tucker's struggles right now. I know there have been a number of people trying to pin it on Stout, but nothing has changed on that front from last year to this year as far as the idea of him crowding the ball. It's on Tucker, plain and simple.

I'm hard pressed to believe there's any better K available right now, but I do think you at least need to start considering contingencies - maybe a workout that results in a PS signing. It's extremely tough to say that, but it may unfortunately be reality until he can figure out the issues. I'm still betting he'll be the Tuck we know when it matters, but I don't know that we can count on that.
On the kick he made, snap was the issue - too low and too short. Stout managed to sort it on time.

It's also frustrating that we've committed so many active roster spots to ST units to be so shit on all of the ST units. I don't know that swapping those guys out for other guys does anything else in the grand scheme of things, but it's just not great from an optics perspective.

I mean the odds, prior to his Bills game, had Dak as favorite (I remember because I made my bet on Lamar to win MVP shortly before that game because I do not think T2 QBs win MVP because the voters are looking for a reason to knock you down). The debate for Purdy was "is it Purdy or is it CMC" so he had no shot and everyone knew which is why just about every single talking head had Dak has the MVP, and the oddsmakers followed, many, and this was hilarious to me, calling his 8 game run "one of the best in NFL history by a QB". If the season ended prior to that Bills game he has MVP locked in, but then he played bad against the Bills and the next week Purdy was bad against the Ravens and then Lamar stomped and was dominant against the Dolphins and that was the end of the conversation.
Dak's MVP odds were dwindling in November. He had a brief window where he was the favorite, but he was never a consensus, surefire bet. The largest lead that any quarterback had (CMC had by far the best odds for about half the season) was Purdy.

But none of this changes my point- ask Dak about beating up on bad teams and if that led to an MVP.

I do really like the "new look" secondary though. Washington was pretty dialed in at S, and dime packages put 4 corners on the field instead of another shit S. As I suspected, they had moments in dime where Stephens was in the slot but took a deep zone as a S traditionally would.
Also proves a lot of those issues on defense really were personnel execution. The secondary looked legit.

Yeah that's the weird thing. If there's any kick you can kind of understand why he'd miss, it's that one. But that's the one he manages to make.

Also if this team actually had NFL guards, the whole thing is different. You probably are unstoppable.

Its just crazy to me we get Henry when we don't have the line. Everyone knew the OL was gonna be a problem. The penalties are because they are tying to compensate or are losing.

Those consistent penalties are huge drive destroyers.
We lose our ability to run the ball when we’re always 1st and 15 or 1st and 20

Maybe this is the solution...increase the bad snaps to help Make Tucker Great Again.

Yep, the talent was clearly there...

I know it's only a very small sample size, but I liked what I saw from Tre White today. Very active before the snap and aware and competitive with the ball in the air. Feel like even that demeanor on the field can help.

This has been the biggest problem I have seen. We are consistently killing drives with first-down penalties. Someone do some research but I think our scoreless drives have all had penalties on first down. I also think we've never managed to overcome 1st-down penalties to score. I could be wrong on the latter (didn't vet this) but am pretty certain on the former. It is sick and needs to change. A lot of calls are dumb, but we are definitely sloppy af on the team.

If there is any reason to fire John Harbaugh, it is due to the poor penalties.

Its not just that. Hamilton played an entirely different position. Was deep the whole time. This was a very different defense. I give Orr a lot of credit. This was not small change. Change in personnel, playcalling and tendencies.

All he's got left to do is get Stephens the fuxk out of there.

I know we have a lot of issues, but I will say I think our kicking situation is now the worst. The problem there is I have no idea what the solution is. I think the defense will be better. I am comfortable after what I watched today. The entire defense looked worlds better, even Roquan. I believe the defense can rebound again, which is good timing because we will need them as we move into the next phase of the year.

I have 0 confidence in Tucker. Whether it's the holder, snapper, the wind, God, his prayers, warm-up, John Harbaugh, Wizard Voodoo, Donald Trump, Joe Biden--I really don't know and don't care but if we can't rely on our kicker, this team is dead.

True. The point is though, divisional games are different. The Bengals could beat the Steelers, once, if not twice, as they fight for their playoff lives.
The Bengals have always been terrible against the Steelers, and the rest of the division to be honest. The Browns meanwhile are outright tanking and if the Bengals lose tonight they might be joining them. The Chiefs game is interesting because I honestly do not think either team is that good but its hard to see 2 extra losses on the schedule.

I know I'm probably the only one that still thinks it, but I still don't see anything glaringly wrong with Stephens today. I would have loved to have seen him get his head around on the one long ball to Pickens, but that was teach tape on execution from both the QB and WR in that situation. Pinpoint accuracy and great subtleness from Pickens.

Stephens is an OK #4 CB and Dime. I'm not worried about him now. I suspect White gets more snaps and Stephens' role reduces.

Tucker on the other hand...no idea how to salvage this situation except maybe having Stout kick. Stout did kick in college. Maybe he is lowkey trying to steal Tucker's job? (I am kidding)

Poor penalties. Poor challenges. Poor clock management. Poor timeout usage. Poor special teams despite being a special teams coach. Poor coordinator choices. Poor discipline on gameday. Poor play selection in crucial moments. Poor everything against well coached teams.

Unfortunately, it's pretty irrelevant. I think Marlon may have given up 1 short pass. And I think White gave up 1 short pass. For the millionth straight week, nearly 100% of catches given up to a CB have been by Stephens.

Then in addition to him not stopping anything, he had a terrible day tackling. He's a liability and teams know it. As @Adreme said, teams put their number 1 on him and he never stops them. It's like 5% of the time.

Even a guy playing bad would be better. Plus White has upside

I just think all of the people that say Stephens is ass clearly never got to see Frank Walker and Chykie Brown and Fabian Washington play CB snaps for us. It could be so so so so so much worse.

We have seen them lol. And I don't think the stats would show any difference despite it maybe "looking" a bit different
