Next Up: Bye Week

One thing the Ravens will hopefully figure out how to plan around is that...

The Ravens haven't won a game where Lamar's passer rating is under 114.

I know some smart ass is going to come in and say that Lamar playing well probably means the Ravens will win, but that isn't my point.

I have lamented several times this season that the Ravens don't have other players consistently stepping up if Lamar isn't having his best games.

They don't have players who take over the way Lamar does. Just a very Lamar-centric team through and through.
I more think of it as a symptom as to how passer rating is calculated combined with the defense being trash until the last 3 games. The latter goes without saying but the former actually is a rather interesting test case of why high volume passing teams tend to have lower ratings.

Basically yards per attempt, completion rate, and touchdown percentage (as an example you need almost 12% of your throws to be TDs to have a perfect rating), all make it so that if you are mixing runs and passes you will have a higher rating.

Also because Lamar isn’t throwing INTs it’s basically only those stats that can lower his passer rating. That kind of means that you have basically cut off the offense’s ability to “take over” being they were doing that Lamar would consequently have a higher passer rating. He isn’t Goff throwing 5 INTs in a game after all.

As for the defense it should be noted over the past 3 weeks they average out to a top 5 unit. Can’t really ask them to do more especially considering it hasn’t exactly been against scrub teams that they suddenly look good again.

There's no kickers out there. Also Tucker has missed 2 xps this season (which is completely league average) and still doesn't miss under 40, and is pretty solid up until 45.

Even with Tucker being bad, there's only about 15 kickers you could say those statements about and they are all locked up.

We've been spoiled for a decade that people are unaware of how terrible the average kicker is. We just can't keep sending Tucker out for anything over 50 and must play the 4th down and punts around the 35. there's no fix just a strategy change
I mean I would think all the missed kicks this week would’ve helped people realize the kicking situation in the NFL isn’t great.

I don't watch other teams but are their kickers costing them games? Cause Tucker is.

Why didn't we bring in JPR his fg% is 91 and he's tied for 10th. Tucker is at 70%.
Ravens didn't bring in another kicker because Justin Tucker body of work shows he's not regular and he deserves some grace and patience. If he continues to miss kicks going forward after the bye week then yeah I'm sure the team will look into some kickers but at the same time those are also kickers that could possibly cost the team games as well so why not have faith in the guy that's been apart of the team for over 7 years . JPR was signed to the Patriots practice squad so he's still available but right now the coaching staff or front office didn't see it worth it to sign him

It's really that simple and I'm not mad at it at alll and this teams knows how to evaluate kickers and I trust their judgement on the matter. Justin Tucker basically stated recently that during the bye week he basically practiced and worked on his game. I trust the goat to figure it out and I think the organization feels the same.

Well the D needs to get some turnovers!! Where are they???? We had three turnovers against the Steelers and still almost won.

would be classless to give up on Tucker. Is he Struggling yes, but his career isn't over.
Until when? When will it not be considered classless? It's not giving up on him, it's putting the team first and the best position to win. We don't know of he's done but he's clearly been on the decline and we've seen this last season.

I think you guys are in denial. Again, he's been on the decline it happens he just like everyone else is getting older. @Sandtown what does grace look like? 1 more loss because missed field goals? 2-3 more missed kicks? Idk, I would hate for this team to get bounced in playoffs because of missed fgs.

Look I'm a fan of this team and Tuck WAS one of the best, do I hope he can correct it? Of course, but they said it was technique before mini bye and it still hasn't been corrected. So, I just think it's him. I hope he proves me wrong but I think he's done.

Rather we in denial or not. The reality is Justin Tucker is experiencing something like this for the first time in his career and I totally understand why the ravens organization is standing by him and trusting him to fix whatever the issues is. Key word in your statement was " mini bye" which is totally different from a full bye week. You think he's done which is cool and the ravens organization doesn't which is cool. We shall see how it works out but I think Tucker will figure it out if not already. Matt Stover has said the samething and even the future hall of famer head coach Bill Belichick has said the same.

While I agree with the sentiment of us being spoiled , your wrong implying Tucker is about league average. He’s one of the worst and it’s not that close

It’s a business, the players get it. Nothing classless had they tried out kickers and possibly sent Tuck to IR…. We did it with Reed, cutting ties, and it was the right call, similar situation with Tuck

Again, I'm not sure actually cutting him is an option. That costs more than keeping him.
IR would only be an option if a) he has an actual injury or b) he agrees to allow the team to put him on IR for a "phantom" injury that both parties collectively fake. Can't just stash healthy players on IR, and I doubt he would agree to it. Mostly because he knows another team will sign him if he gets cut.

As others have mentioned, there's strategic aspect to him being the only kicker on the roster through the Giants game. After that, if he still sucks, they can sign a kicker to the PS, elevate him through the playoffs essentially, and then just make Tucker a gameday inactive.

true, if the player is done or if it becomes cost prohibitive to keep him. To basically tell him you have confidence in him which is what Harbs has said to him and then cut him considering what he has done for the ravens through the years is absolutely wrong.

Tucker isn't done he's just in a slump

Yall gotta look at the kicker stats I'll post some later not on phone but there's a ton of good kickers having identical seasons to tuckers slump. He's just never had a slump or been anything except perfect for 13 years

He has 3 career misses under 40 yards and none since 2020, that's still a very important area (and don't forget cundiff). And he's on career average for the 40-49 range too. It's the 50+ misses killing us

I agree tuckers a huge problem don't get me wrong and he may cost us the season, but what's more important is how we adapt. Lamar needs to stop taking sacks in fg range, and the damn line has to stop holding in the same area. Tucker has bailed both out for his entire career in making it not matter. Lamar owes him some 3&13 scrambling for 7 yards to improve tuckers chances.

That's how we have to play now- no more 52+ attempts unless we have to. More going for it on 4th, and more 3rd downs where the goal is a manageable 4th. No better option exists
