I typically like going for it on 4th and 1 in that area, but I also was fine punting it here. We don't need to give them a short field. Trust the defense to get a stop.

You're not wrong, that's exactly how he thinks. I'm saying everyone else can see that it's dumb though. 1 extra yard there will never been worth the risk of the fumble and the accumulation of damage to the body. Don't know if you're familiar with expected value but this is just simple stuff at the end of the day. I don't know why he isn't coachable in this way? Or maybe the coach isn't trying to coach him out of it. Or worst, is encouraging it.

I think its similar to the Josh Allen problem where he just plays how he plays. It took until halfway through last year to FINALLY stop turning the ball over.

I do agree though that it is frustrating. Flowers did the same thing last year against the Chiefs because going down at the 1, with first and goal, is great and risking that extra yard was very damaging. It is more forgiving of a rookie though than a veteran 2x MVP.
