The Running Game, the Turnovers, and the Same Ol’ Ravens

I agree with above, Bateman is super good. I actually think he's better than a #2. He filled in well as the #1 in this offense. Him and Flowers are pretty even on where they are to me after this season. Kudos to Decosta signing him after his rookie contract.
He certainly has that potential but his issue has always been some weird drops. I think that’s something that has kept him from it for me.

I can look away from that with how consistently he gets open. Something that as a Ravens fan I have never seen from this franchise. Zay gets open, Bateman gets OPEN OPEN. It's wild to me. What I am most afraid of is his durability, as this was the first time he's ever completed a season. And that he never attacks a ball.

I still would like to relegate him to WR3 but he is serviceable as WR2.

way more than serviceable
he's not a number 1 focal point of your offence but i think he's a high-level number 2 type guy - a guy you can rely on to consistently beat DBs in man coverage and take the top off the defence

his lower body flexibility allows him to be such a good route runner

if this version of Bate is your WR3 then you've got a fantastic WR group

Yep you nailed it, that is exactly what I’m saying. I don’t disagree with you at all. Bateman has always dealt with unlucky injuries and a little inconsistency. He is a baller but man sometimes he is so frustrating to watch because you know he can be ridiculously good.

I’d love to get someone a bit more reliable where Bateman could feast as a WR3 because the group is that good. I’m thinking a draft pick or more likely signing back a guy like Brown or something

Mark Andrews cost us the game man. My god he was horrible. He dropped a pass right before the fumble too
The refs AND Andrews cost us this game. We lost by 2 points, so if the refs don't gift the bills 7 points OR Andrews doesn't fumble the game away we win. We just needed one thing to go our way and we win this game. If Andrews plays like he does in the regular season and the refs don't fuck us then we win by 10 points

I see this mentioned a lot, but the Ravens receivers are generally good at getting separation under Monken (I think Roman's spacing was an issue here, otherwise I think it'd have been the case under Roman, too.) Even last year, all the Ravens receivers ranked highly (and I mean all, including Agholor and OBJ.)

It turns out when the threat of Lamar running forces so much zone coverage, separation stats look good.

The separation stat is far more of a Lamar stat than a Bateman one.

I've harped on that so many times I might as well trademark it.

I kept trying to say that people will remember the Lamar fumble, but most people have already forgotten that Mark Andrews dropped a nine yard completion on the prior play. If he makes that catch, the fumble likely doesn't happen because I'd bet on the Ravens lining up in the I and handing off. But alas. Gotta slander Lamar more.

It’s damn near impossible to ever pin a loss on one single player but holy shit Mark sure as hell nailed it

Let's not mention terrible snap by Linderbaum, either.

I've been saying for years, yes Lamar is partially to blame, but what astounds me is the total team collapse around him. Its every year. Every fucking year.

Drops
Bad snaps
Poor blocking
No turnovers forced

Yes Lamar has had some issues but where's the help? It's a team fucking game

The Ravens are the first team in NFL history to...

rush for 175+ yards
complete 70.0% of their passes
average 10.00+ yards per pass
convert 70.0% of their 3rd downs
have no punts or missed FG

...all in the same game (reg or post). They still ended up losing.

I mean Allen didn’t have to do much at all. I wish Lamar’s team could do this for him in the playoffs.

The craziest thing is the Bills coach was about to get crucified for going into a shell if they lost. I wish we could have seen what the defense was going to do

And yet, had we rushed for 250, we win. We needed another rushing drive like the one on which Henry scored a TD. The Bills would have been broken.

There is no convincing me otherwise.

Honestly Lamar played a great game. I know it sounds crazy because of the fumble but he showed me that he's gotten over the playoff hiccups. 88 Yard drive in those weather conditions without your top 2 WRs is insane. Not to mention he put the ball where it needed to be on Andrews drop, he just didn't execute...
