2025 Offseason Thread

I honestly dont see how a team that never even saw wildcat, read options nor rpo can stop lamar tbh. I dnt even think it’s possible playing a base 34 all game and thinking you can stop lamar. Legion of boom was one of faster defenses i can remember and they struggled with kapernick. 2000s team could contain a team like josh allen bills imo but i really do think lamar is just a different animal. He has us thinking gus edwards was nice and that murry and dalvin cook still had some juice left lol. people that dont know any better think we have a top 5 oline. Lamar affect on the game would just be too much. I can see them checking lamar for steroids and giving him cat cans and shit at half time to check and see if he human lol.. man just imagine going back to 2000s and you see this shit lmao. Might think its a football skit
Ravens didn’t run a 3-4 in 2000. They were a 4-3 and their LBs had enough speed to not switch to nickel, its been mentioned many times, billick even said on the SB sideline “they don’t know how fast we are” when their horizontal game wasn’t working at all. But if needed, ravens had enough depth in the secondary to replace a LB with a corner or safety.

I get what you’re saying, but this unit could stop the run and pressure the qb with just a 4 man front. And Marvin Lewis is a DC that can stop the run, ray lewis could fill the gap on every snap and sharper/boulware would absolutely be able to seal the edges. Those boys were like that.

I’ll even bet that the 2000 ravens would beat EVERY Super Bowl winner between then and now, because there isn’t a single team that would’ve been able to score on them.

MAYBE the 2015 broncos could’ve beaten them, just because that’s a defense that could’ve held them to 6 points.

Harbaugh saying today that we have 10 OL they like but probably only going to be able to take 9. Said the 9th spot is still up for grabs, but that feels like posturing unless they really feel iffy on Vinson.
just saw the clip (here for anyone who wants to watch it):

and immediately was coming here to say Harbs basically just announced we're only keeping 9 OL which is what we'd both assumed based on the numbers game

there's no way they're iffy on vinson - he's been coming in with the 2nd team as a developmental tackle who Warhop clearly loved - and they literally don't have another OT after Noteboom other than Vinson who has a chance of making this roster...

if there's any doubt, I actually wonder if it's Ben Cleveland - he just had a really poor game at RG, lost the battle at LG and he's not someone they've got much contractual control over either

Harbs said they've got to figure out their backups and actives...
we know that Noteboom is the backup swing tackle
we know that Bullock is the backup C
we're pretty sure that Vinson is one of the 9 guys and is going to be inactive

so that only leaves Ben Cleveland as the likely primary G backup and 8th gameday active but it could also be Garrett Dellinger too if it really isn't a dead cert for who the 9th guy is

i'm pretty confident it's cleveland, but if there is a question about the 9th guy, it has to be about him surely?
so likely just posturing as you say... but if not, then it has to be cleveland who's spot is in doubt

That's what I thought as well. I just cannot see a world where Noteboom is the only backup that has played an actual NFL snap.

But I've been surprised before.

I'm leaning toward posturing here.

We need to pickup a veteran offensive lineman that is cut . Im more concerned about our offensive line depth than anything else on our team.

For ray lewis, rod woodson, and all the veterans in that DL and LB corps? For one, those guys can figure it out with film study, and two, we would top them in speed and modernity but they would top us with sheer size, physicality, and experience/smarts. Idk if you’re giving the 2000 ravens defense enough credit. They were modern enough for this task.

This isn’t the 85 bears where you can scheme around the defensive alignment and make it obsolete after 1 year, this is a cover 2, cover 3, occasional blitz, line up and bet you can’t beat us type of defense.

2000 ravens DL would make children out of our OL, the LBs would blitz tf out of Lamar and force bad decisions, zay and Bateman against them? Could you fkn imagine Bateman trying to run a slant against prime jamie sharper and ray lewis? He wouldn’t last past the first quarter, they’d eat the 15 yard penalty and force a punt 3 plays later. You can’t screen this defense, you gotta beat press, fool the deep coverage, and find the soft spot, there were no soft spots for TEs who are the only guys who could hold up against that D, there won’t be enough time for soft spots down the field, and Bateman is the one guy that really smokes press coverage and he would leave on a stretcher.

I’m sure they’d get their licks in, big plays here and there, but four quarters in a win or go home game, Lamar’s ravens haven’t shown the fortitude to handle what they’d get from that unit. They couldn’t handle the 2024 eagles, and the 2000 ravens defense is light years beyond them in any era
We got out the vs eagles with those 3 missed fgs. Other than that, it wouldve been a dog fight. Also, we dam near lost to the niners in the super bowl with kap and thats having suggs who is probably one of the smartest edges in history, ed and ray actually might be the smartest and kap still played a decent game while having like 70 rushing. Another thing, that 2000 defense didnt play a single qb that was even half good as lamar. Love that defense and team but they wouldnt know what to do bro.. like they literally played dam near all bad qbs. Like no bull shit, current ravens team would probably have game over at half time lol. You think theyre gonna be able to blitz outta 34 with 4 lbs on the team? Gotta understand once we force those big guys out the game that defense becomes liability.. whats gonna happen when we hurry up offense lol they would probably say that it would be unfair. Yea naw dawg, we too advanced for the 2000s team..

Also, that terrible ass offense, lamar could throw 3ints and still win the game bro lol.

Not enough speed in the world for a team to run 4-3 vs us and not switch to nickel. Maybe once the field get short but other than that they would have switch to nickel. Teams now are too advanced. That team didnt play any good qbs really like at all. Duane starks and cmac would get killed out there and i love cmac.

I dnt think he does! Probably knows the x’s and O’s better as he should and can probably get inside info but thats about it.
OK. So you know more about football than a 17 year vet, first ballot HOFer. What you smokin’ today brah? lol

Im not saying i do but just cause he been in the lg doesnt mean he is good at things you think he is. In the sports world, especially when it comes to comparisons, its really no definite answers… especially when egos, pride and bias are always gonna be apart of it 99% of time but………….. thats why we got me and what i say is law lol

Also sounds like they're starting to settle in on who gets what spots. Still seems like there can be jobs won with good performance on Saturday, but it's largely settled at this point.

As of now, it seems there's 1 open spot for...
- Jay Higgins: they like what he's done and they have some fear of losing him, although they do really like Chandler Martin too
- Keyon Martin: they think he's taken advantage of his opportunities and may also need the depth with so many CBs ailing
- Beau Brade: he's faltered at S but remains one of the key ST guys

The chance for a shakeup seems to be if they want to keep more than 1 of those guys, which puts someone like Ali, Ojabo, maybe Jenkins (veteran handshake?) at risk.

Dellinger seems to be the only offensive guy left out right now.

With Jaire's injury I think Martin makes the 53.

I think they feel confident that he'd clear waivers and be available from the PS when needed, but it's still a consideration. I'd guess Higgins and Brade are more likely to make it based on what I've heard but Martin certainly did well for himself and is making them think hard about it.
