2025 Offseason Thread

I would be really surprised if CB may be that group, unless you are talking #3 CB. That said, I generally agree. I think we could take almost any position and it be a value and need pick. We really do need better depth but more importantly we just need playmakers and guys who will show up in big games. That last part is most critical to me. I would definitely look at someone from Ohio State, someone like Jack Sawyer would be good. We need people who will show up in big games.

Also, Washington is another guy who didn't manage to get INT when they were to be had. He is as much apart of the problem as anyone else, so someone in defense with ball skills would definitely be of help.


I think the only position where I would really rather not invest in would be ILB. It's not that we don't need one or could use more depth, I just don't see tons of value there. I would rather we get DL, Edge, CB, S before that position group.

If Marlon is being moved into the Nickel full time (which I don't know that he is), your # boundary corner is basically like TJ Tampa or some FA signing. If they like a Corner at 27, they'll take him for sure. I don't think they'll hesitate.
Also a good spot to actually get a solid Nickel Corner as well, which would allow Marlon to move back outside.

For me it’s just about continuously investing day 3 picks at the position - see if you can’t find a guy to be a cheap backup

Obviously everyone knows the team is screwed if Lamar goes down for the year

But a short term absence needs a better backup to keep you afloat than Josh johnson

Was notable that they were in on mayfield and some others the last few offseasons

I don’t know that I agree that Johnson isn’t a viable backup. I’m not saying to not keep drafting guys, but I also am not making some higher level commitment if that makes sense.

If Marlon is being moved into the Nickel full time (which I don't know that he is), your # boundary corner is basically like TJ Tampa or some FA signing. If they like a Corner at 27, they'll take him for sure. I don't think they'll hesitate.
Also a good spot to actually get a solid Nickel Corner as well, which would allow Marlon to move back outside.

A nickel would be surprising because it reduces your ability to use Marlon and Hamilton flexibily

Think if you can find someone with some athleticism to run some qb run game then you’re cooking, that’s ultimately why Huntley was a decent backup because you could still run an offence that stressed defences even if he offered very little in the intermediate to deep passing game

I could see us going CB again if he drops to us in the first round.

As badly as I think pass rush is the biggest issue on defense.

See I kind of feel the opposite on the second part. I think the fact that Johnson does still at least have a lively arm makes him a better option than a guy like Huntley, even if the legs are not what they once were.

I'm not saying we shouldn't try to improve of course. Just also think if it comes down to it and Josh Johnson is the best we can do, so be it. I'm not in a hurry to move on from him, assuming he wants to keep playing.

if Tyrod Taylor is available this offseason, I'd prefer him to Johnson, but agree I don't want to commit too much money to backup QB.

For QB specifically, I have this view that the team basically understands that this team won't be overly competitive without Lamar if he misses extended time. And I'm kind of fine with that.
I think most if not all of the decent backups in this league are still going to cost you several million $ a year as a backup. The Flacco's, Dalton's, even Drew Lock's of the world are getting $3-6M a year as backups. I just don't see us committing that kind of cap space to a backup at this point, especially when pretty much none of them would run the offense the way Lamar does.

I'm not opposed to draft picks either, but obviously you're pretty much never taking somebody earlier than round 5, and realistically, like rounds 6-7 or UDFAs. Which means there's pretty much no shot they're ready to play in year 1 and its a total dart throw if they'll ever even be a backup-caliber in the league.

So for me its not even like a worthy discussion point. They take a 6th rounder to compete with Johnson, cool. If they roll with Johnson, same cool. I don't think it matters. If they have or had serious fears about Lamar's availability, they'd need to pony up in the FA market to get a veteran who can not sink the ship if Lamar misses a month.

im definitely optimistic about Tampa but he's also spent so much of his rookie year injured that we have no idea if he can fulfil any of the promise of his college tape

but i had a late 2nd round grade on him and we got him in the 4th...

And maybe where we differ is that I believe a large majority of backups would also be leading a non-functional offense. There aren't even enough starters in the league to lead a functional offense.

I had a 3rd round grade on Tampa, so I was happy to get him in the 4th.

They're saying we'll get a 4th for Queen, 5ths for Clowney and Geno (though one that might drop a round) and a 6th for Zeitler.
It's usually pretty accurate, I think, so it's not a bad haul.

Now we're in the offseason we can look forward to a special Ravens tradition - completely deluding themselves about one of the Guard spots.

Every season the Ravens go right through OTAs, camp and the preseason convincing themselves that one young player is going to be great at Guard. They're so certain of it that they never really give anyone else a chance before the real games start. Then they yank them out of the lineup within a few weeks. It's been Vorhees, young Faalele, Tyre Phillips and so many more.

It seems to work. We usually end up with a great line once the fool's guard has been removed. Who will it be this year?

I was watching all 22 and he’s so frustrated at how slow Falalale is at pulling, he’s always behind on the play. He did get better as the year went on, O line depth is critical
