Training Camp

Do we know the Panthers want to move him? If they do, do we know that a 3rd and 6th will be enough to get him?

Well they paid trai turner but didnt pay norwell ( whos better than him). he'll be a free agent next year. Could be a situation like KO with us.

The price seems reasonable. Took a 4th and 5th to get Eugene Monroe a couple years ago- would think there would be a similar price for Norwell who is better, but plays at a less premium position.

Availability on the other hand is a little more questionable. Carolina isn't swimming in cap space for 2018 (They have about 11mil projected for next year- enough to sign Norwell if they wanted to- Baltimore has about 10mil for comparison) but they have placed a heavy emphasis on keeping a good line by extending Trai Turner and signing Matt Kalil (who is bad, but apparently not bad enough for Carolina). My gut instinct would be that Carolina wouldn't part with Norwell because there is a clear emphasis there on protecting Cam and building a strong run game and Norwell is a really important part of that line. Carolina doesn't have any back-ups on their OL who would be good enough to justify trading Norwell and they haven't spent much draft capital on the position lately. If they lose Norwell, their options are Moton or Daryl Williams (who are both competing at RT for now) or Silatolu (who has spent half his career on IR) or an array of ineffective journeymen.

Sorry for the long write-up, I'm just bored, but I would assume Norwell isn't on the trade block.

true, but im just saying i'd want ozzie to offer carolina somthing very reasonable taking into account there is no gaurentee he'll stay at carolina next year. He is a pro bowl caliber guard, no disrespect to alex lewis but i dont think he'll ever be that.

Why would we give up two picks for a player who we won't be able to keep for longer than a year? That's so short-sighted it's crazy - we are building a team for 2018 and beyond just as much as we are for this year.

I don't think there's any way we give them a third rounder and a 6th for one player for one year

I'd love to have Norwell in Baltimore. He's obviously going to offer more than Lewis will next year, and probably after that. If Carolina wasn't set at DT with Short, Lotulelei and Butler, I'd call Carolina up in a heartbeat and offer up one of the DL (probably Carl Davis) for Norwell.

To be fair, Norwell is likely a better player than we could get in the third or sixth rounds. Plus he's young and we could keep him around for an extended period of time via an extension. He's a player Harbaugh would like as a person and he fits the scheme like a glove. They picked turner and will most certainly lock short up over him.

Normally I'd be against it, but you could get Norwell for an extended period of time.

However I still think the right move is Eric Wood. He's a scheme fit, nasty, has experience with Roman, and has a few years left of super effective play in him. If we could somehow get Wood for 2-3 years similar to how we got Howard..we'd still have to retain Jensen in the offseason at LG, but I'd say we'd be pretty set.

Whatever money we have next year. Remember we'll have very little in the way of FA's to take care of. Will likely be cutting a few vets for cap
Don't be shocked if this is suggs last year too.

Yeah, I don't think money is going to be an issue next year. The team probably won't be able to sign guys like Trumaine Johnson, Jimmy Graham or Alshon Jeffery, but that's never really been their MO anyway.

Stanley-Jensen-wood-yanda-Howard is immediately one of the better lines in the NFL.

That of course is health and cap permitting

i dunno. eric wood has been in quite a decline in recent years.
Yeah, that's why he was universally regarded as one of the best centers in the NFL with Roman's only season( a mere two seasons ago) with the team and has consitently been very good over the years, only to get injured last year and unable to finish his season, and still be good before that. He's been consistently very good until the previous season and the injury didn't help, but had his best season under Roman so it makes more than enough sense to bring him in.

Do your damn research.

Woods a solid center, stop making him out to be a top 5 center. he had 1 good year aside from that he's been solid..nothing more.

btw the bengals have only had 1 bad injury. Thats to marvin lewis.
For a team that plays with sheer aggression why are they always at the bottom of the IR lists?
