Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Mike McCarthy will sit out the 2019 season and will return to coaching come 2020. McCarthy was only interested in the Jets gig and with only the Bengals remaining, who knows where they go with their new head coach. Apparently the new coach is going to be an outside hire and could very well be a guy who is coaching this weekend.

its not just the bengals left... the dolphins too lol

but the point is still valid - both those organisations are apparently only interested in coaches still coaching

Draft Shakeup...... Kyler Murray apparently will enter the 2019 Draft.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports 2018 Heisman Trophy Winner and 2018 Oakland A's first-round draft pick Kyler Murray will enter the NFL draft.

In and of itself, entering the draft would not necessarily mean Murray was foregoing his baseball career, but A's beat writer Susan Slusser reports he would be expected to focus on football if he did so. Super agent Scott Boras had previously insisted that Murray planned to report to A's spring training next month. Now that appears to be up in the air. We will gain more information in the coming days. Were Murray to commit to football, he would have a shot at coming off the board on Day 1.

important note about scott boras is that he's not a licensed NFL agent so that might be partly why he's so insistent about Murray sticking to baseball because it's much easier and more financially fruitful for Murray to make that decision for Boras

alternatively this is misinformation and Boras has been telling the truth

or its misinformation and Boras just lied to Rapsheet for fun (which also wouldnt be surprising lol)

also is it just me finally realising or is Peter King suddenly getting trash with his takes and writing
I had that moment earlier this season lol.
I saw a lot of bad takes on the Kingsbury hire too they evaluated him purely on the basis of his record. He could not recruit at all!

I’m just like, at this point, someone with that much experience of watching the sport and that much unrestricted access to players, coaches, front offices and other journalists should not have takes as bad as he does. He often speaks about the sport as if he has no inside knowledge or understanding of it at all.

The only interesting things I’ve seen him write in recent times are his write ups of special exclusive access he’s had where he’s mostly just describing and reporting on things that are already interesting - be that the 49ers draft war room or the saints hotel the evening before a game

This is pure speculation based off a video of Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury saying he would take Kyler Murray with the first overall pick. The video is from October a few months before taking the job as a NFL Head Coach who happens to have the first overall pick. Adam Schefter is saying that a scenario where they draft Murray and trade Rosen is not "implausible".

After impressing the #Jets in head-coach interviews, former #Bucs OC Todd Monken will interview with the #Browns for their vacant OC job this weekend, source said. He also spoke with #Jaguars about their vacant OC job.

Still unknown whether this one is good news, too:

Numerous current Bengals assistants are being let go today and told that the next coach has other assistants to replace them. This strongly suggests that an outside candidate will get the job.

yep, think this is going to be Eric Bieniemy. I like this hire a lot for them AND I think he may be the best hire this offseason yet if this is the case.

Bengals would like to hire Rams’ QB coach Zac Taylor after Los Angeles’ season ends, league sources tell @mortreport and me. It looks like it is Taylor’s job to lose. He is the preferred choice.

so literally anyone who's ever been touched by mcvay with a ten foot pole lol

tbf who was it who said anyone who has a 5 minute conversation with mcvay on an airplane would be instantly qualified to be an nfl head coach?
