Basically the NFL execs and owners are gearing up and preparing themselves to be dickheads for the next CBA - how does stuff like this endear the players's union to the idea that the NFL will do right by them in any way when they've already started putting language like that in contracts for coaches and will likely try and do so for players too

D Smith has done absolutely nothing for the NFLPA. I agree, it makes no sense. Quite frankly the players haven’t had good representation since Gene Upshaw passed away.Well the first thing is players shouldn't sign a contract that goes beyond 2020 and if teams want players to put these into contracts tell them to buzz off. Not sure what later rd rookies should do but top ones also shouldn't allow that language at all into their contract.
Why the players revoted DeMaurice Smith back into being the head of the NFLPA is beyond me. They made their bed so we have to see where the chips fall and the owners are super rich so they can withstand a stoppage. Players on their rookie contracts and low paid vets not so much. Its fucked that us as fans really have no say.
Gronk strong candidate to retire after season
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Rob Gronkowski will strongly consider retirement after the season.
Gronkowski did the same last offseason before deciding to return for another year. It sounds like he's leaning toward retiring this time. Gronk's on-field decline has been obvious this season as he's continued to battle injuries. The Patriots have Gronkowski signed for $9 million through 2019, but it won't be surprising if he calls it quits.
