As Ravens fans I feel we're in an unfamiliar situation this offseason. The new direction of the Ravens and the possibilities of the draft this year are endless and the thought of things actually being different got me wondering if I had the opportunity to be in Decosta's shoes what would be MY next move...
......Cue the imaginary dream bubble and sound effects.......
"The Baltimore Ravens are now on the clock with the 22nd pick"
Off the board in no particular order: Kyler Murray, Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, Josh Allen, Rashan Gary, Ed Oliver, Jawaan Taylor, Andre Dillard, Montez Sweat, Dwayne Haskins, Christian Wilkins, DK Metcalf, Jonah Williams, Cody Ford, Daniel Jones, TJ Hockenson, Chris Lindstrom, Clelin Ferrell, Devin White, Greedy Williams, Bryon Murphy
"Top remaining prospects" in no particular order: Jeffrey Simmons (likely off our board), Brian Burns, Polite, Bradbury, Hollywood, Josh Jacobs, Devin Bush, Dexter Lawerence, Adderly, Erik Mccoy, Tillery, Deandre Baker, N'keal Harry
In this situation, my BPA is probably Burns or Bradbury, but I don't like their "value" I think I can get guys that project similarly to the next level later. Especially in this draft, where all the top tier guys are already gone outside of maybe Bradbury (but he's not that much better than Erik Mccoy imo and who will most likely be higher on some boards due to scheme fit). So, I'm projecting a trade since this is my dream remember lol.
The Colts GM Ballard calls with the offer to flip from #22 to #26. The official offer?
Ravens send: R1P22 + R3P102 while the Colts send: R1P26 + R389.
Fairly decent offer that favors the Colts according to draft value charts and if offered in real life I think it'd be accepted. The reason the colts want to trade up? Their guy: Brian Burns. They've met with him numerous times. I believe taken him out to dinner twice. Well, I use this information to my advantage and lead them to believe Burns will be selected with the 22nd pick whether he ends up in Indianapolis or Baltimore is currently up in the air. My counter offer is to Ballard?
Ravens send: R1P22 (Brian Burns) + R3P102 while the Colts send: R2P34 + R2P59
A trade that may seem unreal to some, maybe all? Not sure what the reaction will be but its fair on the draft value charts and I believe might even favor the Colts as they get a second 1st round pick without mortgaging the future. Which is what entices Ballard, He accepts. Selects Burns, celebrates, tells his assistant to hold the press conference as he gets ready to make another pick within the hour.
Now for the sake of ending this wall of words and dream scenario, I didn't trade anymore but if this happened in real life there's no doubt Decosta (and myself in my dream GM chair) would have traded down again to the late 30 mid 40 range and continue to maneuver. So now... finally... (much life real life) some Ravens picks are in.
With the 34th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select....
ERIK MCCOY, IOL, TEXAS A&M
Mccoy is a great fit in our system, experienced, still has room to grow but would be an instant starter. Should be able to slide into whichever spot Bozeman doesn't and finish our OL.
Stanley, Mccoy, Bozeman, Yanda, Brown
With the 59th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select....
DEEBO SAMUEL,WR, SOUTH CAROLINA
Best playmaker on the board and would be the best playmaker on offense outside of LJ. Hands, good routes, beats press, speed, vision, creativity. can play outside. only knocks are injury history and height? still 6 foot!
With the 85th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select....
JJ ARCEGA-WHITESIDE, WR, STANFORD
Shows clearly prioritizing WR's and different traits than we've previous selected. Both guys are playmakers beat 1v1 coverage consistently, good hands, football players(not athletes), willing to block, good football IQ but still fit Harbaughs vision.. good character, good storys, team players, leaders, rough and tough.
sidenote: Deebo and JJAW are my 1A1B for us! I think they would help Lamar reach his potential more than others. Accept maybe Butler!
With the 113th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select....
JUSTIN HOLLINS, EDGE, OREGON
Love this kids potential, Could be dangerous with our secondary, High football IQ, can play the run, can rush the passer and has experience in coverage. Does need refinement but has length, speed, frame you cannot teach. probably goes higher than this.
With the 123rd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select....
ANTHONY NELSON, DL, IOWA
Mcphee\Z replacement? inside/outside pass rush potential
With the 160th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select....
TRAYVEON WILLIAMS, RB, TEXAS A&M
small shifty back with speed Harbs spoke of. love his play. vision and feet are great. comes with Erik Mccoy
With the 191st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select....
DAKOTA ALLEN, LB, TTU
need depth lb. I believe Jefferson plays alot of nickel
With the 193rd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select....
GREG GAINES, DL, WASHINGTON
late round DL per usual
