He is great. Worth every bit of a 6th pick. How are we feeling about Stanley
I think he's had a disappointing start to the season but his Pittsburgh game was easily his best, but prior to that he wasn't playing near to his expectations, I hope he can build off of what he did last week. Overall I definitely think we made a great pick. I will also say this, he's improved in run blocking this season. How are we feeling about Stanley
Teams do have to adapt to injuries, but there are some injuries that just single-handedly derail a season - such as losing Jimmy a few years back. Sadly I think this Yanda injury will go down as one of those.Yeah, and I don’see or buy into the thought some around here have that “all teams go through this(injuries) and do fine”. Bullshit. Any team that has this magnitude of players lost is going to struggle.
The injuries have nothing to do with Harbaugh, especially in game injuries and acl / mcl injuries. Most of which happen without any contact. Guess I am getting into it a bit, but prior to the CBA many teams had two practices a day on a regular basis and more tackling in practices. The injuries are not his fault. Nowadays you can’t really practice tackling.Teams do have to adapt to injuries, but there are some injuries that just single-handedly derail a season - such as losing Jimmy a few years back. Although I do have to wonder if @Sami84 is right about Harbaugh. We seem to be at or near the top of the IR list every season and one has to wonder at what point that stops becoming an unfortunate coincidence.
But that still doesn't explain how our team is near the top every year in IR injuries. Some teams seem to never lose nearly as many players as we do, and they follow the same rules we do.The injuries have nothing to do with Harbaugh, especially in game injuries and acl / mcl injuries. Part of our injuries are players we have stashed from the preseason that could have come back, ie Tim White or a player we cut and then put on ps and decided to put him on IR. It’s not the amount of injuries, it’s the amount of important starters that has more relevance. 2015 had so many starters on IR. Although I don’t remember the dollar amount of the players on IR in 2015, I remember it being s very high amount. Last year wasn’t as bad.But that still doesn't explain how our team is near the top every year in IR injuries. Exactly. The oddest part is that we're rotating two players who didn't see a snap prior to this season. Both are young, neither has injury concerns, so we're throwing out two newcomers and then removing each from the field of play to the point where neither one is able to establish a rapport or pick up on their counterparts' patterns and tells. It doesn't help that neither Skura nor Eluemunor looked ready for a starting role in the preseason, and we're compounding the uphill climb with a needless obstacle. I do agree in that Bergstrom should be given a game or two by his lonesome. Our guard spots have been woeful thus far without Yanda, and I hope this trends in the opposite direction. It's not just you, definitely. I've seen comments on that particular rotation calling it the stupidest move ever (close to it, not literally) and I couldn't agree more. I think they should have left Bergstrom in all along. Position wouldn't suffer more than it does now and there would be a chance of slight improvement maybe. Or at least let one of the young guys to try figure it out.
Harbaugh's lost compass. And I think he's losing his mind, too.Exactly. The oddest part is that we're rotating two players who didn't see a snap prior to this season. That's what happens when it's your hobby to injure people.Harbaugh's lost compass. And I think he's losing his mind, too.
Agreed. The switching of JE and Skura is bad for many reasons.Exactly. The oddest part is that we're rotating two players who didn't see a snap prior to this season. O-line should get game ball. They dominated them. Mack did very little.
Agreed. The switching of JE and Skura is bad for many reasons.
- Neither gets in a rhythm
- Neither the C nor the RT get into a rhythm with the RG position.
- Potentially telestrates to defense what play we could run. I've noticed that we pull Skura when he's in and JE doesn't pull. Also, I think Skura has generally been in for passing situations.
I get the intent. Let them battle it out and earn the spot. But it's not time for that. We're 2-2. Let JE work on his footspeed in practice and get Skura in a program to get him more explosive. (If he can't be bulky strong he might as well accentuate his strengths).
I'm an advocate for Bergstrom getting in. He can't move people like JE can but at least he'll keep Joe clean, which is a lot more than Skura or JE can say. He can pull. He can reach block. He may struggle in short yardage but... keeping Joe clean might mean more for this team than running Iso up the middle play after play.
Another thought on Skura -- in terms of physical attributes, he's very much like Yanda. On the short side, not weight room strong, but a lot more athletic than given credit for. What's different about the two, and how can we improve Skura? I read once that Yanda does something interesting in pass pro, where he'll take a deeper drop than most guards to create more space -- helps against the speed rush -- and then he'll do a little hop step to generate more power for his punch to stop the bull rush (kinda like a power clean effect if you're into power lifting). The man is a technical genius. He's not weight room strong but he knows how to use his athletic ability to generate power. If only Skura could figure that out.
Another thought: get Hurst out of there. He's useless. I'd rather commit to JE at one spot and Bergstrom at another.
