The Humphrey and Williams Pick: I'm Digging Them-You?

My concern with humphrey is that when QBS decided to target him with the long ball, pretty much in every game he gave up a big play..id say in 75% of the games where he was targeted deep he was beaten. I've been trying to talk myself into this pick but even in the combine drills Deion sanders said when he was doing the backstep stuff '' thats poor technique, that's not good at all''.. Is all this fixable? He had nick saban coaching him...what I don't like about the first two picks is that they are very raw in so many aspects. For the first two picks i always feel you should be looking for starting material off the bat with a current high floor and high ceiling wheras later on you can pick n choose a bit more casually.
 
Im watching the OLE miss game right now and it's not even the 2nd half and humphrey is being beaten every time the long ball is thrown at him. How can a first round corner not be able to win down the field? I'm actually really shocked he had anything other than a 2nd round grade. He's going to lose quite a few games for us this year if hes targeted. If he can't dominate WR's in college how on earth is he going to deal with Julio, Aj and Antonio brown?

We drafted a SS who can pass as an average emergency corner. I tried to give this pick the benefit of the doubt but after watching all of bamas games over the past 48 hours and seeing him being beaten down the field in every game i cannot condone this pick.
 
Where the ravens FO watching marlon humphrey or minkah fitzpatrick? They might have got the two confused..the latter is a true number one corner..
 
Basically Humphrey has one weakness and it's one we've already corrected in the past so why panick?

It's not always correctable. it's an instinctive thing. His speed is also questionable. I watch him and then i watch Marshon Lattimore , Conley, Sidney jones and even jourdan lewis and It confuses me even more. Those guys play the ball and stick with recievers down the field.

How can anyone make a case for humphrey over those guys?
 
It be nice if we could draft Minkah Fitzpatrick next year. I'm certain the FO got some tape mixed up lol..
 


watch this game. He gives up 3 massive receptions and 2 going for touchdowns. This isn't a one off either..

right now its the fan base rookie honeymoon period, ''we love you, you're great''.

Wouldnt shock me if everyones cussing his name after every sunday by middle of the season..
 
Correct me if I am wrong, but he played very well against the more talented receivers did he not?
 
At the very least he would make a great safety, Jefferson is a great pickup but Weddle and Webb are getting old and slow.
 
The Ravens grabbed a corner that's great at stopping the dink and dunk offense, and greatly improved the passrush to help stop longer passes. It's great combination.

His strength is when he keeps the play in front of him, that's for sure. He fits our defense to a t on how we play coverages. I believe with a little improved footwork and teaching him to look back, this flaw in his game can be fixed.

Humphrey is at his best when playing with his eyes in the backfield. He reads the quarterback’s intentions, and flashes excellent closing speed while breaking on plays. The shorter the field, the better Humphrey’s chances of success.
He needs to play with improved technique on the outside to avoid losing one on one battles in man coverage, but his technique is one of those that is fixable.

I think it's not as instinct as you think. Apple had that issue as well (among 30 other more problems) and ended the season very well. Humphrey is at least 10 times more physical and twice as scheme diverse as Apple.
 
Same sh- different board as far as Sami is concerned lol.

We may see a lot of struggles this year with Humphrey, but nothing that I don't see as correctable. Take the upside man, be optimistic for once.
 
Ok.. I've rewatched the film a tonne and i'm feeling a bit better. Is he the safest CB prospect? No..there were safer guys. But yes, for a cover 2 hes the best corner in this draft.

Needs to work on his technique and adding 8 pounds of muscle before the season starts would also help his physicality in 50/50 balls.
