Culley is one of the 2 finalists for the Texans job, along with Leslie Frazier. If he gets the job, we'd get two 3rd round comp picks, one this year and one next.

isnt jim caldwell still in the discussion (had his 2nd interview last week)...

either way - would be really great to have the 3rd round picks - to get the 3 back that we're missing from the ngakoue trade would be great (+ to have an extra one next year on top of whatever comp picks we get from free agency - and im assuming we're gonna be getting at least 1 and probably more)

would also mean having to fill another positional coach spot - replacing culley at WR coach - not sure there's anyone in-house to promote unless we want to move bobby engram back from TE coach to WR coach and promote Bischoff to TE coach

would probably be an outside hire though which would be interesting

Caldwell did interview twice but apparently the second one was with Caserio (he had met with Easterby previously). Both Culley and Frazier have met with Caserio twice. So take that for whatever that's worth.

I wouldn't mind losing Culley in all honesty. Picks help but I'd also just be open to getting a different mind in those offensive decision making meetings.

oh for sure - i just meant that we're not just losing the "pass-game coordinator" but we're also losing a positional coach with no obvious in-house replacement - i definitely like adding new voices to the staff

well something's happening

That seems to me he is going to be their new Head Coach. If not, his interview would have been done already and they probably would be doing this with Frazier instead. I wonder how this will impact Watson, reports say Culley & Watson developed a good rapport during the Pro Bowl last year.

Culley is staying overnight in Houston. This pretty much confirms he will be their next Head Coach. I imagine the details will be worked out for a contract tomorrow with something announced Thursday Night or Friday Morning. It should be noted Leslie Frazier flew back to Buffalo.

tbf frazier had his interview the day before so him flying back to buffalo was inevitable unless they were so 100% sure he was their guy that they were basically gonna cancel culley's interview

culley staying overnight is a good sign for these potential comp picks though

Happy for Culley too. Not sure how it'll work out, but props to the Texans for at least thinking outside of the box. Proof that it's not always about a certain on field philosophy. Apparently he's a leader, and it'll be for a team that desperately needs one.

3rd round picks incoming

EDC said that we'd like to acquire more picks in his post-season presser - maybe he was hinting at this the whole time lol

I'm assuming at least one of these meetings involved Watson and Culley talking to him trying to convince him to stay, etc. Otherwise, these are a lot of meetings lol. It's funny though, he joined with the Chiefs in 2013 as their WR coach. The next season in 2014, the 2014 Chiefs became the first team with ZERO TOUCHDOWNS from Wide Receivers since 1964. I'll be happy for him to be getting this opportunity but damn like his credentials are.... meh.

I just find it funny how every minority Head Coach that was being propped up by the media: Bieniemy, Caldwell, Frazier, and others yet the one minority Head Coach nobody talked about or thought about is the one with the Head Coaching job.

Cullen over Bieniemy. I will never understand these stupid ass teams.

He's such an interesting case, but more teams went against the offensive grain this season that we've seen in years past. Lots of leadership qualities (Saleh, Staley, Campbell, Culley) than these young offensive play callers. Whether some of those guys will be good or not remains to be seen, but it's definitely different. Teams definitely went outside of the box (with the exception of Saleh).
