i went back and rewatched it to see - looked like he had a DL fall on his leg and roll up on him from behind...

Always how it happens with OL it seems. Sad too. I know a lot of people hate on him but I really think he could get something going if he could just stay on the field.

The Good: Ty'son Williams looks like he has the potential to become a good running back. He runs hard and has a lot of speed. I was impressed with him.

The Bad: The right side of the offensive line. Villenueva is not the answer at right tackle. They were pathetic.

The Ugly: This one is about me. I did a terrible thing. I fell asleep before OT and missed it. I guess it works out that we lost. I deserve to have my fandom questioned for this, though I will defend myself by saying I slept terribly Sunday night and was really tired last night.

I think we’re seeing the downside to decostas philosophies. All these analytics say that early draft picks should be used on the more flashy prospects, well now we have no OL to speak of and our qb might die behind it.
Not sure if it’s analytics or what, but it’s been that way for a very long time, save drafting Ronnie.
And it would have been difficult but we could have sacrificed other areas to keep guys like Jensen and Brown. I think you’re right, they’ve become so obsessed with adding the flashy guys that they’ve lost sight that you can’t get where you need to without a solid line.

It's one thing to kind of ignore it, but it's another when it's the actually the principle reason you lose every game you do, especially in the playoffs basically 3 years in a row

What I don’t get is why we didn’t use Lamar at all really in the running game until very late - feels like we could have gone to that earlier in the game when we had the lead

Yes yes yes. I felt like Lamar was overthinking it. Perhaps trying to prove himself to be a pocket passer to the naysayers, but it really looked like he had some openings to take off.

I wonder how much of it is analytics and how much of it is them just being cocky and big-headed thinkin they can just find another diamond in the rough with their past success of drafting those middle-to-late round OL gems. Yanda, Jensen. Ricky Wagner, Bozeman.

oh and yeah harbs.. go ahead and pick your 1 Michigan player every year. Huh? You want to draft a fullback instead of getting a developmental tackle prospect. Sure. Sure.

I really hope that we're done drafting Michigan players. Not one of those draft picks has been anything more than mediocre and they're a wasted pick every time.

Harbs always gotta have it his way. Can’t go out feeling like he ain’t top dog. Probably the biggest reason why we shipped out Ed Reed after the “player mutiny” szn.

Well that and he was a free agent, a very average Safety by NFL standards when he left, and had little to no value on a team that was going through a rebuild after winning a SB.

I think the fact that he bounced around a couple teams the following year and was out of the league entirely some 12 months later was pretty much validation of that. I would say you'd have a better example in Pollard, but not really. Same story. Not a high-end player at that stage, played one more season for one team, and was basically forced out of the league entirely before the age of 30.

I don't necessarily disagree with the premise, but I also think you'll find coaches league-wide who operate the same way. Everybody has a "doghouse".

ThTs exactly what I think it is. Their analytics tell them that they’ve done well maintaining the OL by throwing darts at the OL on day 3 every year, but they’re whiffing on every pick it seems.

Positional thoughts now that I have some time and am not on my phone...

QB: I find it hard to blame Lamar too much here. He needs to do a better job at protecting the ball but there's only so much you can do with the horrid performance of the OL. He did slip mechanically a few times but for the most part, the ball came out well. Give him some time in the pocket like we did in 2019 and I feel like he could hit another level.

RB: The inexperience in this offense showed. Williams ran well but looked tentative at the mesh point numerous times. I also think he got nicked a little bit, leading to him sitting for much of the 2nd half. Murray looked fine but clearly uncomfortable. Hopefully a full week of practice leads to some improvements here.

WR: Really no complaints here today. The guys did well with the opportunities they were given. Only notable thing is that I'm surprised we saw so little of Proche.

TE: Andrews was quiet but it also seemed like that was in the Raiders game plan. The drop in OT sucks but it is what it is.

OL: We've beaten this one to death but AV was hot garbage and Stanley looked really rusty, although that one should be expected. Zeitler had a rough game as well. I think Bozeman was overall pretty fine, and Powers stepped in and did solid work like much of last year.

DL: Not much interior pressure outside of Campbell, who still can wreck things albeit with much less consistency now. Madubuike and Washington were quiet. Williams plugged the holes per usual. Just nothing to write home about here.

OLB: Not much going outside of Oweh, who shined on occasion. I thought McPhee looked ultra slow. Houston had a few shining moments but disappeared a little too often. Bowser didn't get anything going.

ILB: Queen looks a lot more comfortable. Still marred by inconsistency but he's developing. Thought Harrison struggled a bit out there but again, don't think they were necessarily the issue.

DB: Tavon Young was the bad here. He just didn't look comfortable, and as mentioned last night, I'm glad they moved to more Westry and Stephens. I thought the secondary as a whole played well. The stats look bad but only so much you can do when you sell out for the blitz that often. Thought Elliott had some big struggles as well.

It's weird typing this up, knowing we gave up 33 points and still finding it hard to find too many glaring weaknesses on the defense. The pass rush wasn't there of course but the odd case where it's a heavy coaching failure as well.

If you didn't believe it before, the next draft should be heavy in the trenches if they don't get this shit fixed though.
