Lamar Jackson

Simple. Lamar Jackson is the only mega star player the Ravens have drafted in their history. I love Ray, JO, Reed, Suggs and the rest a whole lot. They were all super stars and perhaps a few were the best at their positions to ever do it. Lamar though is a whole different animal. He could take over the sport and transcend it. Such is his talent. I'll leave the naysayers to object, but, I'm more than convinced.
you don't consider Ray a mega star. IMO he was absolutely a mega star,

Pump the breaks a little bit. There’s a reason when most people are asked “ who was the greatest LB to play the game” they almost unanimously answer LT or Ray. Same can’t be said for our boy when talking about QBs. Lamar has been really great in his first four years. Let’s just appreciate that and pace ourselves as he has a long way to go. Let’s get a super bowl before we worry about transcending anything

Wrong. Incorrect. Both Ray and Ed were megastars of their positions. Stop letting your "fatherhood" ruin your mind my man.

While not having the off field persona, Ed Reed may be the best safety ever to play the game. Absolutely a mega star.

At times Lamar has been the most exciting player in the NFL, but there’s a lot more to be accomplished and written on his resume before he can be mentioned with Ring of Honor guys.

i mean i kind of see his point though - like Ray and Ed were superstars within the game and hall of famers

but very few players transcend the game of football... and lamar kind of does have that effect - he certainly did in his MVP year

no casual fans or people who rarely watch football were turning on the tv on sundays to watch Ray or Ed play and part of that is the fact of the positions they played - certainly those who watched them saw and appreciated their stardom and especially those around the league did too

but lamar legitimately makes people watch him

Ray made people watch him who weren't football fans and I know that for a fact.

I can tell you I was turning on the tv to watch Ray and Ed. Especially Ray in 2000. He was absolutely phenomenal. And Ed was a special talent who was always fun to watch. To think we had both of them for so many years.
Lamar has those same unique abilities to change the outcome of a game(s) with his feet and/or his arm.

I missed that. Has someone here actually said that? I would not put that past posters on another Ravens board that starts with "R", but here I expect more from people.
there are two ravens boards that start with an R and both of them have members that have said that.

Two Ravens boards? I only know of the one (unless you mean the Ravens subforum on Reddit), and you are very correct in them having members that have said that

Ray and Ed didn’t have multiple opposing stadiums chanting mvp. Lamar does transcend the sport, it’s been a short run so far, but Lamar is the type of player that could change the course of nfl history, 15 years from now the nfl could be entirely different because of a Lamar Jackson, a generation of athletes who would’ve played wr or rb previously will now strive to play qb and this could change the future of the position.

Lamar Jackson, thus far, is a different level of superstar than ray and Ed, and i watched their careers live and in person, i idolized them
And grew up on them, I didn’t jump on the ravens bandwagon in the harbaugh era, I’ve been here since the boller days, Lamar Jackson is a transcendental kind of player and ray and Ed were not.

Ray and Ed definitely were, and that's that. I think Lamar has a ways to go for that myself. He's gotta get himself out of this slump and win some playoff games (and preferably a Super Bowl) before he is on their level in terms of megastar legacy goes.

To your point Lamar has already changed the course of the NFL with some of the things he’s done. I think the 2019 season was a reality check for some scouts and how they evaluate QBs. However, I remember hearing this same conversation about Vick in 2002. Really good player, ultimately didn’t pan out the way some thought. It’s just to early to put Lamar on the pedestal of NFL greats. I really appreciate getting to watch a talent like Lamar, but he has a ways to go.

To be fair, Vick effed himself over with his dumbassery.

Saying “and that’s that” doesn’t suddenly make something true. Ray and Ed were all time greats at their positions, Lamar Jackson is changing how scouts evaluate the most important position in football, there’s different levels to this, there is being great, and then there’s being 1 of 1, Lamar Jackson is a 1 of 1 kind of player, his current slump has nothing to do with it.

Ray and Ed’s impacts are already forgotten outside of Baltimore, Lamar Jackson’s impact will be felt league wide 20 years from now

You’re talking about accomplishments, I’m talking about something entirely different and the first part of your post is what I’m referring to.
