Signings, Cuts, Trades

I guess I was more saying this wasn't a move so that we could make another move. Unless a Gordon signing is gonna pop

for sure - i think it was merely just time to cut him as they didnt have any intention of having him come into the building for offseason work that started today is my guess

officially had a load of erfas sign their tenders (which im assuming meant they were all in the building for workouts too) and probably from a timing standpoint made sense to do boykin now

probably also tells you that powers cut isnt imminent (which is also unsurprising as i expect him to be involved throughout training camp and all the way to cutdown day unless we need the cap space for a move)

Totally agree here!

So is he dumb or smart? We make fun of him for saying dumb shit. But does he believe it? Or is he just making exactly the kinda content that will get him the views and ultimately money he's after... Making him smart.

Don't know which one

Smart. He knows who his audience is.

Bunch of lil kids and new Raven fans thanks to Lamar. Gotta give them the content they want. I respect the hustle.

Lol. I’m sure we did

Would be alot of fun in this offense. Not so much fun when it’s time to pay the bill

Seeing Sam Koch walking in the locker room and still being on the team probably means we are sticking with him.

I don't get why we waited so long to cut Boykin. Maybe ZDS or Bobby could have used his 2.54..

didn't realize how bad it was until now. yes the 2nd was used for Lamar but still our only hit was Hollywood, who is worse than most of the wrs picked after him. yikes.

at least we got mekari out of the udfa class to make it feel better lol

and looking at the draft class as a whole - our draft looks bad, but for a lot of other teams it looks pretty awful also

Tbh I think he’s all about them juicy clicks. I can’t imagine someone who reports that much and talks that much about football is actually that nonsensical

seems to coalesce consistently around 2 topics and viewpoints

1) EDC and the front office are stingy and don't know what they're doing
2) WRs - either our WRs suck and that means we need more better WRs or we need to get boykin and the other guys more involved because they are clearly stars being held back by greg roman

Eric can't draft Matt Araiza yet, draft is next week lol. I do think we could move on if we draft Araiza or find another Punter during UDFA. Unless Koch works to improve in the offseason, he's definitely getting competition this year. Koch's average yards per Punt hasn't really fallen off but there's just been many more better Punters coming into the league and doing better. In 2019 he was 8th in the league at 46.4 yards per punt, with 2020 being 44.5 but that was only good for 25th amongst punters. His 44.4 average was good to increase him to 22nd in the league last year but still hasn't been a top 20 Punter since 2019. His longest was 61 yards last year, tied for 34th while the longest Punt last year was 82 yards by Packers Punter Corey Bojorquez. He's definitely hit a decline it seems and that was evident even during some games last year. If we are going to win with a run game and strong defense, we need to find a Punter who can help us win the field position game, Koch simply can't do that anymore unfortunately.

Not sure average yards is the best metric, inside 20 is more important for me and he's 8th in that metric.

For me they’re both important (although I like to look at the inside 10 over the inside 20

To me the 2 most important punt jobs are:
1) can you flip the field consistently
2) can you pin the other team inside the 10 and back them up when given the chance

The 2nd, koch’s still pretty good at although not elite the last year or so

The 1st has concerned me a little - just felt last year like his leg was going a bit and couldn’t quite get the height or distance that he used to

He’s not losing us games but he’s no longer the dynamic irreplaceable guy he has been in the past

Do you have one for inside the 10? With how accurate punters have become pinning inside the 20 is almost expected.
You'd think but even the best are under 50%. There is an advanced stat of average points saved based off of estimated points per field position. I can't seem to post the link but there is a post on thespax.com about it.

Having not studied punter metrics much, does the inside the 10 stat take into account essentially "eligible" punts, or all punts?
i.e. if Koch is punting from his own 25, in order to land a punt inside the 10, you're talking a good probably 50-60 yards in the air, at a minimum.

In my opinion, in order for a Punter to realistically be expected to land a punt inside the 10, I'd probably expect him to be punting from no further back than like your own 35-40 yard line. Anything further back than that and you're basically expecting a 60+ yard punt to make that happen.

Koch is an interesting one. Started off the year pretty bad and then rebounded to maybe a slightly worse version on the Koch that we’ve grown to know. He’s not a detriment at this point but you can see some of the decline happening. I’m not sure he needs to be replaced this year but they absolutely should be bringing in legitimate competition if they don’t want to replace him outright. I’d lean toward the former for now with maybe an eye to next year. If you could do the Nick Moore thing and find someone you think you can develop and let them stick on a PS for a year, that’d be great. Unless they’re big on Araiza or Stout which would be fine as well.
