I don't know, if he is healthy he'd be an upgrade to our current LB room. Had a good year in 2020 and was pretty darn good in coverage. Wasn't as good in 2021 before injury, but he would still be an upgrade.
Great tackler.. i think his cvg skills are pretty suspect though

If every player had a guaranteed contract the cap system as it exists now would not work.

i think in this scenario in a future NFL where all contracts are guaranteed, you'd have allowances within the cap in-season for injuries that provide cap space relief to the amount of the gameday salaries that are being lost to injury or some other mechanisms that mean 1 devastating injury wouldnt hamstring a franchise in the same way

they've already got, at a very low level, something that's basically a soft-launch of that kind of idea with the veteran salary benefit where they get locked at a cap hit that's less than what they're actually earning

The only way it would ever happen is if salaries were cut drastically. Not likely.

This is probably the best we can do at the moment. No need to bring an additional CB, since we haven't had any season ending injuries. We need pass rush help real bad and someone who can provide adequate coverage in the middle of the field. Though I do think match ups have to do with what we've given up there.

I don't think The Ravens offered Lamar Jackson a cheap deal. If it's true that Jackson wants a fully guaranteed contract then this situation isnt about being a cheap but smart. It just doesn't make sense for any team to offer a player a fully guaranteed contract given how violent the sport is.
If the deal of 133 guaranteed 250 total is real that deal is AWFUL.

If the deal of 133 guaranteed 250 total is real that deal is AWFUL.
So I'm pretty sure a) the $133M was total guaranteed at signing and b) Lamar confirmed to some reporter (can't remember who) that the actual total guaranteed money was in like the $160-180M range, which is what others had reported. So substantially more.

Based on what we've seen offered, he would have been #2 in AAV, #2 in Gtd money at signing, and either #2 or #3 in total guaranteed money.
He would have gotten less guaranteed money than Kyler, which is part of the problem, but I don't think the gap was that wide that they couldn't bridge that.

But, again, if you're looking for the Watson deal, none of this matters.

The good news, at least in my eyes, is you have a sense of where the Ravens are at. a) they want a longer contract, b) AAV isn't a problem, since they're already at $50M annually, and c) they're basically willing to pay him as a top 2-3 QB based on all metrics, which is what he is.

One other thing I'd point out with Lamar, in which I give him credit for playing this brilliantly...
If they're going to sign an extension in offseason and before tag comes out, realistically, they've got to give him something that will pay him at least $45-50M in year 1, and probably at least $100M in first two years, because that's what he would get on the tag. That means pretty large bonuses.

For context, Murray got $39M in year 1 and $77.5M in first two years.
Watson gets $46M each year, so he's getting $92M in first two years.

Ravens would likely have to at least match what Watson got in year 1 and 2, otherwise he probably won't sign.

He should've paid him, because not doing so cost Bisciotti millions more.
Will it really though? I can't imagine the price changing unless Lamar wins a super bowl(possible) or someone gives a QB 5 years 230 mil + guaranteed (unlikely). Maybe Burrow gets that deal, but the Bengals don't look so good right now, and Brown can’t put a giant pile of cash into escrow. Herbert? Two great years, no playoff berths, and now injured. I could see a new deal all the same, but I don't see a Watson-like deal that Lamar wants. I imagine his price is the exact same this off-season as it was last. My guess was 5 Years 250 Mil fully guaranteed.

But that's Lamar's thinking as well. Regardless of what happens this year, even if he were to get hurt, the offer he got on the table is likely the minimum an offer is going to be next year. Why not wait and see if one of those guys breaks the bank? He's not really risking anything in all actuality. He's getting more money out of this deal by sitting and waiting, while the Ravens are content to sit and wait and hope that the fully guaranteed angle isn't a trend. Fair offer this year for both sides but also smart by both sides to wait it out. Ravens might end up paying more but I think they'll be content with that not to set a trend.
