2018 Secondary

Im pretty sure he is not the only reason they arent throwing deep vs him: cmon man, he isnt doing anything impressive for us to brag about him.
Oh get real. For a rookie he's done a pretty good job all things considered. CB is a position MOST rookies usually struggle at. He's not getting his ass whooped and he's flashing plenty of potential.

And watch his fucking tape FFS

not being injured or on IR is pretty impressive for a CB tbh

I never said he was doing bad! just not good enough for me to brag about him!

You said we should have traded our first round pick for Robinson instead of selecting Humphrey.
There's a difference between being a starter and a starter by default and everyone can recognize it. Would you say Pierce is starting by default? Would you say Young was? Dixon? Judon?

Young I like. Dixon has issues and Judon has flashed. Has a long way b4 u label him a difference maker. Pierce I like but is kinda disappointing. Pierce would better serve himself carefully cutting to about 305 lbs and play more of a penetrating role. He can cut to 295-305lbs with no loss in power if he is careful. All that strength in a more explosive frame would be awesome. He would actually play stronger cuz off the extra explosion. His play style and skill set I think is more reminiscent of a penetrator. One that can hold his spot and occupy blocks when necessary.

Off topic I know. On topic I don't like the Humph pick at all!! At least as a cornerback. If Reshard can walk a straight line he is far better than Humph. It isn't even close!! However if Humph is even average in coverage it would mean he is great in coverage for a SS. He would be a very rare athlete for a SS. That is one thing I'll give Oz. Maybe he knew Humph was a safe pick cuz if he is only an average cornerback he could be a very very rare SS. Even if he is average in coverage for a cornerback and even slightly above average. Then that is bettter than any SS in coverage. He would be able to handle coverage tasks no team could ever ask their SS to do. Which would make him a very rare and valuable chess piece. His power and tackling could even see him line up as a Linebacker on some plays. And his coverage skills would be very rare and valuable from the LB position. Which would make him quite a flexible commodity.

I think you start to see a lot of turnovers caused by Humphrey. His closing speed and how hard he attacks the ball I bet you see a couple interceptions and possibly a forced fumble by the end of the season. I still have no idea why Brandon Carr is starting over him.

because he's been playing really well as a press corner...

when canady comes back do you guys reckon he immediately takes over at slot corner?
It’s going to be very interesting how it shakes out with Hill there as well. If Canady comes back and plays like he did this offseason I don’t see how he doesn’t take over the starting role. But Hill definitely deserves a big role as well. I’m fine with them hashing it out and Webb moving to strictly a reserve safety.

Problem is we have yet to see what he looks like, all we know is we've heard some good things about him during the offseason. Right now I'd put Hill as the SCB and Webb as a FS, with Canady being the 4th CB on the depth chart until one gets injured.

Ideally, we'll have some sort of split between Canady and Hill depending on who's playing better and Webb can just be a Swiss-army knife reserve corner/safety to fill in wherever he's needed.

A good case would be against a bigger slot receiver like Decker where you'd like to put Canady to nullify his advantage against typically smaller SCBs like Hill.
