The 2023 Offseason Thread

If we were going to get rid of Lamar and bring in a young guy then I would have just kept Roman to at least keep the run game strong for a year or two.
He wasn't even doing well with that last year. did you see how he used Andrews instead of Gus?

Keep Roman and have no WRs and players like Dobbins ready to revolt over the play calling. That doesn't help a young QB.

Because Roman himself gets in his own way. Yeah the running game would be strong, but we'd be having the same conversations aka how come Dobbins didn't get the ball enough in the redzone or why did we stop running it despite being down 9 (or 10)?

I think they're keeping Lamar this year. And if it means the roster is weaker, if it means the "overhaul" of the WR results in just some middling guys who aren't that good, etc., I think they do it.

I think its going to be a lot more difficult than people realize to significantly upgrade the roster with Lamar on the tag. And I think there's a contingent of people who thinks we'll be worse off as a team if Lamar is back on the tag.

I just don't think they're dumping him this year.
I don't think anyone has not understood this roster will be significantly weaker than it could be in Lamar doesn't sign an extension.

O I strongly disagree. Look at these boards. People out here calling out for trades for Hopkins, additions of veteran FA WRs, talking about available FAs in the mid and high tier markets, etc.

These people about to fuck around and find out what happens when a QB costs $45M against the cap in 2023. It ain't pretty. And remember... he's a "blank check" guy. As long as the QB happy, don't matter what else.

Honestly I'm kind of petty and want to see it happen, just so I can blame fans for Lamar's stance and show them what it looks like when the QB plays hard ball over $. They can watch this team go one and done in the playoffs again due to lack of talent, and pretend like the QB is absolved from all responsibility from it.

And I'll bath in all of their stupidity.

Sigh lol.

There's been like 2 people who've been interested in DHop. And they've not been saying the FO better do it or else. It's just people want to see the room improved when they said it was going to.

But like you said it's not gonna be a real make over but rather a fake one because Lamar or the FO is being really shitty

We’re saying this if he gets extended, not given the tag

I can't lie that I find this comical coming from you, rmc... since early early on when negotiations started with Lamar, I've been steadfast about how difficult it would be to do anything with Lamar on the tag, yet you and others kept saying how the cap goes up every year, we'll be fine, etc. Now that it is a reality that his salary is going to be 20-25% of the total cap and we WILL be strapped as I said we would be, you and others are finally seeing it's not so feasible after all w/o a significant overhaul of contracts and personnel just to try to get it to work. I have to be honest, since I started arguing that it really wasn't as easy as many were thinking just to carry two years of Franchise Tagged Lamar, that I've thought the plan would always be to sell high on Lamar and move on. All the headaches of dealing with that kind of contract with an agent-less player goes away. And though many people want to believe we will suck without him, yee of little faith should also see a pretty solid team in place And that with even a middling FA QB replacing Lamar it wouldn't necessarily mean utter failure. But Lamar mezmerizes, so anything with out him we will surely fail. I totally disagree with that premise especially if it cripples the team from making necessary improvements that they would otherwise do without the burden of having to rob Peter to pay Paul in some manner to get wiggle room to do anything. That's a horrible position for a franchise to be in.

I get where you're coming from... but we were going one and done before he was paid anyway lol

Some noise being made in Cincy about Tee Higgins being possibly traded.

Your comprehension seems off most of the time - that's why you live in the imaginary world of anecdotes you constructed in an attempt to convince others of your intellectual superiority.

Unfortunately for you, it doesn't work in this, real world. The only one who believes your stories is you.
