Signings, Cuts, Trades

This is what kills me. If we need somebody to fill Clark's role. Then we should've just kept him.

Absolutely. How bout we just go thru training camp and some of the preseason and just see how the chips fall. What injuries occur. Can a udfa step up We can also trade if it turns out we have excess at a position for a position we lack or sign cut vets that are freed cuz a cheaper contract on said team did enough. No damn patience. Just sign sign sign.

Yeah we know the cap will go up some more than likely. Lamar's cap hit by itself goes up 11 mil and other contracts go up also. We also have 21 mil yes 21 mil in void years amongst guys like OBJ,Pierce,Agholer that count also as dead money. Carrying some cap space over will help. Bottomline is we will fill the holes that need filling.
we need only Stone. We have 3 good safeties. Amos doesn't matter. we can have him or no, just cuz he's not good doesn't mean anything

I think another could be good. In nickel defense Hamilton handles the slot a lot leaving Stephens or Stone as a semi-starter. Also Stephens is a backup CB, so if a starter on the perimeter goes goes down he isn't a safety anymore.
Well Harbaugh did say Stephens would be focusing more on safety this season.

Who are these 3 good safeties?

Williams, okay. He's good. Geno filled in well, nothing crazy and Hamilton doesnt play "traditional" safety in our defense. There is no reason not to consider adding Amos and he's familiar with NFC offenses.

You already know who. Your boy unfortunately a Jet now.

I meant that if Amos is terrible, then it really isn't the end of the world

Stone was a good starter when he stepped in for Williams. I thought he was part of the reason they let Chuck go - along with salary - but paying Amos most of what Chuck was getting (who's younger, knows the defense and is about 95% likely to be better in 23) makes no sense to me.

Amos is a better player all around than Clark. No he didn't have the green dot, like Clark but he's a better player and has been for the majority of his career.

a) they wouldn't have the same cap hits. Pretty sure Clark's cap hit was north of $6M. Amos won't be nearly that high. Realistically, probably half of it.
b) its pretty hard to pay him less than Clark, considering Clark is making like $3M this year. The vet minimum itself would probably pay Amos in the $1.5-2M range.

It's really not a price issue. Its going to be small $ regardless. Its a depth issue.
