The cap space really wasn’t the issue. It’s easy to adjust, restructure, or extend guys to make space

95 yards a game for RBs seems good, until you consider the quantity of times they're running the ball. And the fact that many of our games lead to more rushing in the second half to grind out a lead.

I'm content with the fact that we didn't make the deals we did, due to the "alleged" price tags for some of these guys. But there's a reason we were so publicly in the RB market, and its not because we think Edwards and Hill are special.

Looking across the NFL, the Ravens backs' yards per carry isn't too bad. It's not great either, because, as you say, the Ravens backs aren't special and no one would ever argue they were when our best back is a past-his-best Gus Edwards. (Although we'd have killed for even that over the last couple of years.) An affordable upgrade would have been nice.

What I'm saying is that it's good enough to get by, in the context of a Lamar Jackson offense. We're still a top 10 rushing offense in total yards and efficiency.

And I generally agree. I've said since the beginning... I think any fan would have a tough time selling the idea that the difference between a Jacobs and an Edwards is so large that it will drive whether we win a Lombardi or not. I'm not buying that at all. We can use better players in some spots, but honestly, a lack a running game isn't the kind of thing where I go into the playoffs thinking "o we can't win because we don't have good RBs".

Like pretty much every playoff game these days, QB play, weapons in the passing game, and pass defense will drive how well a team does in the playoffs. KC doesn't have good RBs and haven't in years. Neither does or has Buffalo. The Bengals have done plenty of winning in the playoffs with Mixon being a shell of his former self. You don't need quality RB play to win in this league.

I would have expected the fanbase to react much more negatively to the idea that we wouldn't give up like a late 3rd for a Chase Young-type, which I would have suspected we would have strongly considered. I think there's a lot of faith in our pass rush right now being placed on a) two older veterans who could easily wear down later in the year (Clowney and Van Noy) and b) a couple of players with injury concerns this year (Oweh and Ojabo). I think we can scheme pressure, and I like the pressure our Dline creates, but that's the area I'd have concerns with being good enough to win a Lombardi.

The running game is just meh, which is fine in the playoffs. It doesn't need to be great. It just can't suck.

So if we're talking the trade candidates, you couldn't restructure yesterday. NFL has a deadline where players can restructure deals for trades, and it was on Monday. It was a critical nugget I didn't know about that changes a lot. Basically you really can't get other teams to eat a lot of the $ anymore.

I think what was fairly clear is that the Ravens weren't interested in doing restructures for a half-year player. Doing a restructure to afford an extension of a current player they'd consider.
And the only guys left to restructure for any significant $ is Andrews (who they'd do) and Stanley, who they've been extremely hesitant to touch.
And I don't really see any extensions to be had that would lower cap hits. The guys we'd want to extend are already dirt cheap for the year anyway.

Was just speaking with a friend in Kentucky(Titans season ticket holder). Word down there is that the Ravens were in discussions with Titans re; Henry, but Amy Strunk nixed the deal.

Been reported by some local people, but not confirmed by any of the usual national reporters.
 
Honestly im pretty high on Keaton as long as he not a fumbler. Hes much faster than Gus or Hill and seems to have good vision.

I just hope he can get healthy.
 
Jacobs who is still young and having a bad year most likely won't get extended and Henry who is getting older could also be a free agent. We could have either one of these two running backs next season if we wanted to. Henry is still running at 4.4 yards per carry and Jacobs is still a young back. There will be plenty of options next season and getting JK back as a possible number 2 would be good also.
