I see what you mean but not everyone can get 1k yards. Some 1k yards are much more impressive. 1k yards from flowers, dell and addison will likely be more impressive than all mike evans 1k yards… im not saying it makes you a great wr but 1k from a rookie is actually a good sign.

Why is it more impressive? Rookie WRs don't struggle to acclimate in this league. If you look back at recent years, its not surprising at all. Two of the three are in high volume passing games, and one of them has taken on the lead role with Jefferson out for a good chunk of the year.

OK, I don't agree though. Rookie WRs don't struggle to acclimate in this league. Especially first rounders. Many jump into prominent roles in their offense almost immediately. Last four years:
2022: two rookie WRs over 1K yards (Wilson and Olave). Four had over 800 yards.
2021: two rookie WRs over 1K yards (Chase and Waddle). Devonta Smith was over 900 yards.
2020: one rookie WR over 1K yards (Jefferson). Three had over 850 yards.
2019: one rookie WR over 1K yards (Brown). Three had over 900 yards, Four had over 800 yards.
So I mean in the modern NFL, you can pretty much pencil in two rookie WRs getting 1K yards, and roughly 3-4 will eclipse 800+ yards. And the gap between an 800 yard WR and a 1K yard WR isn't big.

it's all about the targets. If an offense is predominantly a running offense, it's pretty impressive. Definitely happens more often now than it did in the past due to the college offenses passing a lot more and the NFL running more spread schemes.
You can't pencil in 2 getting 1k yards. They didn't have 2 in 2020 or 2019 and you listed it yourself. 900 isn't 1000 yards.

Yeah I mean his point about WR being one of the easiest positions to transition from college to NFL is true and fine. But yeah the arbitrary numbers he's using especially with a historical benchmark of 1k yards from a 16 game season in a now 17 game season is kinda pointless
All those guys you mentioned are world class wrs lol.. tell me why quentin johnson only had like 200 yards? You cant just say it isnt impressive cause you have guys that literally cant do it because they arent as good… also, those same two rookie wrs you can pencil will likely end up being all pro. Not just anyway cant get 1k.its actually hard to get open vs an nfl defense. Just ask duv and proche

Pierce is an abnormal human being. He might have the most powerful anchor in the NFL, he’s sumo strong yet can still get a sack as long as he can take short steps to get there

Maybe it’s less about impressive and more about relief after our franchise history with first round wrs. It’s not that anyones calling him an all pro just for hitting that baseline, but after all the misses that took us years of patience before moving on, it’s real nice to see this rookie eliminating doubts early

lol I mean OK, but like 1K yards is just an arbitrary number. Why is 1K yards much more impressive than 900 yards? You're talking like 8 yards a game at that point. They're extremely comparable.
If you get a rookie WR that either a) leads their team in targets, or b) is the #2 WR on a pass-heavy offense, they're going to be extremely productive in their rookie year.

Yeah no shit. That's the point. Every year there's multiple world-class WRs coming out of the early rounds. Literally every year. It is, by definition, the norm.
Show me a rookie WR who's the #1 target on his team, or the #2 target in a high volume offense. They'll be in the 800-900 yard class every time. And I'm not out here slurping 1K as an arbitrary barometer for anything, because the difference between a 900 yard WR and a 1K yard receiver is very, very, very small.
Quentin Johnson has bad production because he checks neither of those boxes. He's not the #2 WR in the Chargers offense (he's 4th on the team in targets, and 3rd as a WR in general).
These guys are as much of a product of the talent around them as they are talent themselves. Is Addison a 1K receiver if Jefferson doesn't spend half the season on IR? I'd bet no.
Rookies that are the # target on their offense, or #2 in a high-volume passing game. They'll produce.

No doubt. But my point is its about circumstances. There's going to end up being many WRs from every draft class who will eventually get 1K yards. Getting it as a rookie has more to do with where you are in the offense vs the talent of that actual player. Quentin Johnson was never going to be better than 3rd in this offense in his rookie year. Neither was JSN. The only chance they could move up is via injuries.
Flowers stepped into a role where there was no clear pecking order in the WR order. Addison stepped into a role where there was no clear #2 WR in that room, and he still needed an injury to get there. Tank Dell walked into quite literally a non-existent WR room.
Every year this happens.
