The 2024 Offseason Thread

I do agree with that. However, I don't see the Ravens getting to a point in the next 3-4 months (basically by the draft) where they have any real understanding of whether Stanley can return to a high level or not. Realistically, they're not going to know that until probably at least training camp, and likely not into the regular season.

And to be honest... I think if the Ravens thought they'd get 2023 Stanley in 2024, they'd probably still keep him, due to lack of realistic options (at least until the draft).
But that's part of the game. Can't be in wait and see mode for everything. Gotta make some decisions you don't want to have to make and this may be one.

Don't believe they care about who replaces him, at least in the respect that they need to know who it is before they decide on Stanley. That decision is likely to be completely independent in my eyes. It's about Stanley and what they think he might have left.

Finally saw the game winning play, somehow the chiefs now have ran the same fake pre snap motion to get wide open 3 fucking times now. We didn’t have a single on schedule passing play all playoffs

That was bad preparation from SF in its entirety. That play has been on film from KC since Mahomes first took over the starting job. No world where they should have bit on that as hard as they did.

Yeah I don't think its that simple at all. I think its simpler when you're talking about cutting a 3rd WR like OBJ or basically a rotational edge player like Bowser. I think those decisions are much simpler.

Ultimately, it'll probably come down to cash flow above everything else. He's due $15M. They have to decide whether he's worth $15M, and that'll include considering what the replacement cost is. One thing that's certainly not going to happen is they're not going to cut him and then just pray that the draft falls a certain way and they get a replacement. That's never been something either Ozzie or EDC has done. If they cut him before the draft, it's because they think they can replace his output, reasonably, before the draft. That means FA.

And if there's a guy that they can produce similarly that can be had for $8-10M or something like that, I think they'll do it. I just don't see that happening.

You've got Mekari who rotated with him for a good portion of the season. Not like the cupboard is bare.

I think generally we overthink it. The benefit here of course is that he'd be cut with a J1 regardless, so it's not like they have to cut him day 1. But if they think he's done and there's not much left there, they aren't going to hitch their wagons to him just because he's the 'only' option. If they think he's done or close to it, they'll move on and figure out the rest later. Would not be the first time.

I might get heat for this but I would love to sign Chris Jones. Such a high impact and disruptive player. He made so many game changing plays during the Super Bowl, even in the AFC title game against us he was a problem.
I just don't know if we'd be able to afford him. And I'm pretty positive this FO isn't gonna let Mads walk just so. That being said, @JAAM , this #SIIE is extremely tempting.

We all know where Ricard is going
I was going to ask then realized you probably meant LA. Dey broke doe.

Even with this being "our year" the team will most likely always be in the mix. Too bad it won't mean shit until the playoffs. Heavily weighing the options of not even watching the regular season and doing something productive on Sundays.

Maybe. They also preferred Villanueva over Mekari just two years ago, and they didn't even give Mekari much of an opportunity to win the starting LG job from Simpson. Meaning I think they're serious about his role as a swing tackle as opposed to a starter.

While I think the post June 1 is an option, also doesn't do much for ya. There's not a ton of value in having that much cap available three months after FA has opened. You don't need nearly that much to sign a draft class, and there's really nobody expensive becoming available at that point.
Best case is you're rolling a good chunk of it into '25 to offset the dead $ he'll have then anyway.

I too think we generally overthink it. And in this case, I think we're overthinking how bad he was.

I mean they're "broke" but they've got some fairly straight forward moves to make.

They'll likely either cut or extend Mack (probably cut), cut or extend Allen, and then Lindsley is going to retire. There's like $60M in cap space available from just those guys.
Mack I think for sure is gone, and I think they'll just look to get younger in a couple spots overall.

Yep, the one play that was good for us was the quick throw to Likely to start the 2nd half against Houston. We needed that against KC, instead we got a masterpiece in Harbaugh

Mike Mac was some kind of black right? On his mom's sister's god daughter side or something? We getting comp picks for him too?

I know their decisions pretty easy cap wise with guys, but never checked who their FAs were. I would see what I could get for Bosa.

I think that’s arguably where the money would be most valuable. Enough to wrap up the draft class and sign some of the late FAs we love to pick up. We usually restructure guys to make room at that point.

So when does Free Agency start next month, and when can we start tagging players?

I don't think they'll be shopping Bosa. Makes more sense to move on from Mack, who's more expensive and like 3 years older.
