Lamar Jackson, the Miscommunications, and the Refs

Happiest I've been with a loss in a while.

Ronnie Stanley with no knee brace for the first time in 4 years?? He looked incredible! I'm one of his biggest supporters.

Trenton Simpson had us not missing a beat from PQ. Huge play on 3rd and 10, it's a rare kind of player to make that play!

Vorhees largely went unnoticed (at least in pass pro). Not many worried about him because of LG, but he looked solid. Chris jones didn't want much to do with him.

Bateman being exactly what we needed and making and INSANE player don't think 90% of ravens WRs in the last 10 years make.

Likely enough said, but what a blocker!

I think rg is a need still. But rest looked good. Zach Orr held his own also.

There's a lot to be frustrated about. First the offensive line, they did seem to settle down once the game got going, it's going to improve over the course of the season but it's not encouraging seeing that we are one missed block/assignment from Lamar getting injured again. This is on EDC, being one game away from the Super Bowl is not the time to just rebuild the offensive line from scratch. I'll get to Harbaugh's lack of snaps in the preseason for the starting OL in a bit....

If there will be any similarities to 2012, it might be the fact we end up firing our Offensive Coordinator. There were a lot of bad play calling, and I mean bad. Very questionable decisions like why are we not running the ball more, why is Henry not out there more? Where is Andrews most of the game? You talked in training camp about utilizing BOTH of them on the field AT THE SAME TIME, yet we did not see that at all. If you give any other Head Coach in this league, Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Mark Andrews, Likely, Flowers, Bateman, our offense would actually reach the potential it has.

Harbaugh has been a problem for years. He got stale a long time ago, any other Head Coach in this league would have took the teams we had in 2019 & 2023 and won Super Bowls with them. We continue to see the same mistakes year in, year out with Harbaugh. We see the dumb penalties every year that seemingly should have been fixed but doesn't get fixed because bone headed penalties still keep costing this team. That is on coaching, not giving your starting OL snaps in the preseason so they can get snaps in in an actual game before the season, especially when it's a young line like we got is questionable. Not knowing why you aren't running the ball more, why isn't a certain runningback not getting more snaps, why we suddenly stop running the ball in the playoffs, etc. At some point, Biscotti has got to make the call and fire Harbaugh, yes he may not want to do it but this team, this locker room needs a fresh voice in that locker room. I would even say, we need an offensive minded Head Coach who can make the most of the talent we have on offense. Andy Reid to John Harbaugh is what Ohio State used to be to Jim Harbaugh. Jim Harbaugh finally beat Ohio State... will John finally beat the Chiefs when it matters most in January?

To put a bow on it, despite everything I said above, somehow I can't be that mad about the loss. This is one of those losses that you can take something away from and become a better team because of it. A loss like this, can be a positive thing. Look at the Chiefs last year, they lost to the Raiders on Christmas and used that loss as motivation to eventually end up winning the Super Bowl. For John Harbaugh, this loss can be what makes this team into a Super Bowl Champion by February or this loss sets the tone for what might be his last season as Head Coach. Which path will you choose John?

Heartbreaking to lose that way, but there’s a weird sense of optimism around it.

Offensive line started out really bad and that had me really worried. They weren’t great by the end but you could see them start to settle in and Lamar had a little more trust.

Defense marred by miscommunications.

Officiating was terrible and very one sided, and that’s coming from me who rarely complains about the refs.

Will say that my one takeaway on the Chiefs is that they’re better than everyone else offensively because of that Andy Reid brain. While we’re trying to get the ball into playmaker hands, the Chiefs are out there scheming playmakers against specific defenders to get the ball in their hands. It’s truly a work of art, as much as it pains me to say it.
We're just getting organized. Hat's off to Lamar in this game; his rushing was phenomenal but an asset such as he should not be getting tackled that hard on a regular basis. Eventually he is gonna end up siidelined with an injury for those extra couple yards. Once the rust gets knocked out of his passing game we will be unbeatable; shit; we got Derrick Henry & Mark Andrews out there on the field not to mention our deep threat Zay Flowers; an all-star offense; once they learn each other's idiosyncrasies they have an actual run at the bowl!! Offense played hella good though, through the first time out; defense still needs some work but it is all gonna come together!! I Can Smell It In The Air; this is OUR YEAR & Our Opponents better watch t'f out!!
⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛

Also major shoutout to Justice Hill. That dude is a fucking gamer. Goes from being one of the only lifelines early in the game to taking (and largely handling) Chris Jones 1-on-1 on the final drive.

multiple times he stepped up and dealt with Chris Jones on that final drive

im not gonna go into panic mode on the OL yet

RR definitely had his welcome to the NFL moment on the sack fumble but he will only get better

They're the two time reigning SB champs and established best team in the land. And they got better this offseason. And despite all that and despite playing well below our capabilities, we should've won.

I had tremendously lower expectations. Now my expectations are this team can compete with the best.

just got to ramp up
we've got a lot of young pieces this year - no reason to rush and ruin their development - this will not be the same team in December

this offence will only get better as Vorhees, Faalele and RR get more live reps

the skill position group is looking really nice - the combo of Zay, Likely and Bate is nice - i'm hoping that Mark is still not 100% and that he'll get better as we move through the season too - Justice Hill was awesome as a passing down back in both pass pro and as a receiver... just need to figure out how to best use him and Henry together

really promising start with that whole group though

on defence the coverage busts were frustrating - probably related to some new pieces and a new DC - those will get sorted especially as the DB rotation for the 5th/6th DB gets sorted out we had eddie jackson, JAD, Wiggins and Ar'darius all playing multiple snaps

if only oweh could finish sacks in space - but the DL and rush generally looked pretty good

we're a team in transition, so not hugely surprised that we lost here
pretty excited by the way the team played generally given the changes

just frustrated by the way we lost and the general sense of unfairness

Likely is a major weapon to have in this group if he's gonna play like this

a bit worried about Andrews though
He still doesn't seem right and this is why I asked about him in another thread. OL seemed to steady as the game progressed. Lamar can't keep having these ugly misses and defense seems too reactive. The pass rush looked good to me for the most part.

which ugly miss are you talking about?

It sounds like crazy conspiracy thinking but, after last year's Taylorbowl, it seems like Goddell has already decided that this season is going to be about the Threepeat - and the refs are making it happen in exactly the same way.

It's not about big calls, it's all the little line of scrimmage things. One team never gets flagged for holding, false starts, offside, lining up incorrectly, where the other team gets reffed incredibly tightly and it soon adds up.

I’m seeing a lot of “I’m optimistic after this loss”

Here’s why I can’t find optimism in any aspect of nfl football: I’m beginning to believe the rigged talk, when you play the chiefs you see it, they are obviously influencing the course of the game and making executive decisions as to when a team is or isn’t allowed to continue downfield or get a stop. The NFL looks like the WWE, they don’t talk the same way in between plays, when you play the chiefs, football talk goes out the window and it becomes Hollywood bullshit, it doesn’t feel like I’m watching the same sport that I watched ten plus years ago, I feel like I’m watching athletes being steered by refs to reach outcomes favorable to the NFL’s bottom line. It’s depressing, it makes me sick.

It was like that with the Patriots back when they were a jugganaut team within the AFC. Just got to play better sound football next time. This team kept it quite close against the chiefs and hasnt reached its ceiling yet either

I don't get the concerns about Mark Andrew. I don't think he's a 100 percent healthy yet but I also don't see how people think he's not the Andrews of old

But the Worthy TD was a Swift play, they even made a special Taylor Swift graphic for it and showed her live reaction to it

It was not nearly as pronounced with the patriots. It still felt like football where you had one team that could bitch and moan to get some favorable calls. These refs decide the course of the game from the very beginning and don’t even try to hide their intentions. It was the most egregious game I’ve ever seen. The illegal formation not being called on jawaan Taylor needs to be explained, the rule was made because of him, he did it all night, he was false starting frequently, he wasn’t flagged for it, you can not have refs deciding from the beginning they’re gonna make an example out of one player on one team, be consistent.
