I mean I would assume the cuts are largely left up to the coach versus the GM.

Oh absolutely. Let me rephrase. EDC is not afraid to cut the cord. See drafting Rashod Bateman and Ttlan Wallace 1 year after drafting Duvernay and Proche one year after drafting Hollywood and Boykin. Harbs is no longer forced to keep anyone who is underperforming

While certainly true, I'm spearheading the I THINK (keyword think) I have been very wrong about Roman. Something I have taken for granted is that just like Lamar has never had premier skill positions around him, well Roman hasn't really either.

We got toasted in the playoff game against the titans and knew we needed to improve the passing game. That ended up only being the addition of Duvernay and Proche. Well guess what happened vs Buffalo, got hit in the trenches again and the WR corps were not able to get open. So the stacked box killed us again.

Well guess what, we're gonna round out RT, and now we have at bare minimum 3 guys who can beat man. Let's see what Roman can do when he has the players talented enough to beat the man accross from them.

Last note, I read from Romans answers in a presser a few days ago that he was implicitly saying our guys today are gonna be better at beating the stacked box than our guys of years past. And that was before adding Tylan. I have a lot of faith. Lamar and the guys are already working hard.

i thought it was interesting too when he talked about Rashod getting opportunities 1v1 and we'd expect him to win those matchups

idk tbh - the one game where he had a couple of snaps i thought he did ok - his 1 reception was a nice route

the only thought i have is that he was the target on a lamar reception (but it looked like lamar's fault missing the LB rather than proche so idk)

i really wanted him to get some snaps just to see if he couldnt add some value to a stale and utterly uninspiring receiving corps

I know but 1 interception on 1 play shouldn't have that kind of impact right? Lamar was awful that day

Exactly!! Like I'm really getting excited in a way I did not expect at all. I'm calling myself out lol. Earlier this offseason I said we had so many holes and cap problems, we were gonna take a step back. 3 months later I'm so excited and impressed its crazy. Recall Harbaugh comment on this is one of the deepest rosters we've had. I agree

to be fair to the chiefs - they've invested a ton in their OL at this point this offseason
Orlando - Thuney - Humphrey/Blythe - Duvernay-Tardiff/Long/Smith - Niang/Remmers

maybe they don't have 5 elite players but they've got a ton of depth at all the spots where they don't have entrenched starters...

Absolutely. I guess my light point was that over Lamars years here, you could not say those rosters were comparable. It would be crazy to say they aren't of similar class now.

This is probably the 100% sensible view to have on GRo. He is far from perfect but he's also the architect of arguably the greatest rushing attack in modern NFL history. There is something to be said about that. Now that we have invested a good amount of resources to the WR position, there will be no excuse to beat the stacked box. And like GRo said, with the personnel we have rn, we should be able to make defenses "defend all 53 yards" of the width of the field. It'll come down to whether GRo schemes it right and if the players execute in crucial moments.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Ok I'm gonna give my attempt to lay out what the roster will look like.

QB (2)
LJ, Huntley

RB (4)
JK, Gus, Hill, Ricard

TE (3)
Mark, Nick, Mason

WR (6)
Hollywood, Watkins, Bateman, Wallace, Duvernay, Proche

IOL (6)
Cleveland, Bozeman, Zeitler, Mekari, Bredeson, Powers

OT (3)
Stanley, AV, Tyree

Thats 24 offensive players

DL (6)
Calais, Derek, BWill, Washington, Madabuike, Jelly

OLB (5)
Oweh, Bowser, McPhee, Hayes, Ferguson

ILB (4)
Queen, Harrison, Fort, Board

CB (6)
Marlon, Jimmy, Peters, AA, Tavon, Wade

S (5)
Clark, Elliot, Stephens, Levine, Washington

Thats 26 defensive players

New Wolfpack (3)
Tuck, Koch, Moore

With that lineup, for me the only people I had to think about were:

Trace, Boykin, TCC, Tomlinson. Pretty stacked roster tbh. If we bring in Houston, get Ferguson outta there.

TCC would be a tough cut but idk who I’d replace with him

Crowded WR room for the Ravens

Hollywood
Watkins
Bateman
Boykin
Duvernay
Wallace
Proche

Would seem to me that Proche is the player that is most in danger of losing his job. Sure-handed punt returner, if he's on the team it's as a special teamer.

Boykin is a good blocker, but they don't seem to like the idea of him playing TE. If he wasn't such a good blocker, I think he would be fighting for a job.
I don't see them keeping 7 WRs. 6 is probably the max, and that means Proche and Boykin are competing for one spot, alone with whatever UDFAs or even another veteran FA we may or may not sign.

Plus, how many are active on gameday? I don't think it'll be 6. Probably no more than 5, and maybe as little as 4, depending on gameplan.

Hollywood, Bateman, Watkins, and whoever the returner is (likely Duvernay). That means either Wallace or Proche/Boykin is likely a gameday inactive anyway.

Proche spent a good chunk of last season on the inactive list. Both he and Boykin need a big camp to not only make the roster, but to make a gameday roster.

Ultimately, like many offseasons, an injury or two may resolve the issue. If somebody like Proche or Boykin or Wallace gets hurt in camp or the preseason with a multi-week injury, they may just get sent to IR and either come back later or not at all. Obviously could happen to one of the top 3 also.

I think they will try and find a way to get Josh Oliver, TE on the roster. I really liked his tape in college and he has had a lot of bad luck the last couple years. I think he would make the roster before Ricard would.

I also agree TCC would be a tough cut. I think there may be some surprise cuts.

I am so excited to see this offense. The combo of Rashad with Marquise no doubt has the potential to conflict the safety deep with mixed over/under stuff. Releasing backs to the flat or the backs running a wheel behind a hitch WITH Marquise and Bateman doing their thing. If Lamar makes those reads its a wrap.
Love to see the offense with some pace to it at times and really try to gain matchup advantages in both the run and pass game.

Villanueva can no doubt down block/double team a 3t all day from the right side. He understands protection, though he's pretty unorthodox...he manages. I think he'll really thrive here.

Hollywood, watkins and bateman already know how to get open so im not giving our new coach staff for anything they do. When i see duvernay and boykin improve their route running, thats when ill start giving tee martin credit

Kinda unfair expectation. If these coaches can get Boykin/Duvernay to be Devante Adams or Diggs at running routes, immediately put those coaches in the HOF

Oh yea for sure but the other 3 guys are already able to do them though.. people are gonna be giving our coaches credit for those 3 when those already have a history of showcasing what they can do.. what we need the most is better passing concepts and for lamar to read defenses before presnap
