The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Raiders Week 1 Edition

Something that’s being left out here, Grudens raiders have been dominant first half of the season teams. They fall apart late in the season every year.

We also simply did not have any chance to tweak a game plan to play with no option plays, that fumbled mesh basically made us scrap a third of the playbook and the pressure made us scrap another third.

we DESPERATELY need to adjust on defense. They lost peters but they don’t have the excuses that the offense has, they needed to be better. How many times did we just have 6-7 men on the line and then they all just rush in right where they stood, there was no disguise or deception whatsoever and we just kept doing it and they max protected and carr either went full retreat and heaved it to Waller or he threw it hot to renfrow. It became EASY for gruden and carr, too easy, they knew what to do on every single third down, and it literally never failed in the second half.

I think this last point is also important. I don’t mind running the zero blitz but there was virtually no deception last night. If we showed it, we brought it. No bailing out and making Carr think. I felt like the Queen sack was really the only instance of that all night.

Hard to tell without watching film but what you said certainly seems spot on. Line up, blitz, and repeat. Little to no variation. I'm also very concerned with what seems to be another year of our front not capable of generating pressure on their own.

Queen disguised that blitz well. Great play, seems more and more like a home run pick

The queen sack was a thing of beauty and the problem is idk if that’s a player thing or coach thing. Are the players left to their own devices as far as disguising intentions on zero blitz? Queens sack looked improv.

Something that’s gotten lost in all this is that averett looked like an absolute stud. His feet and change of direction are elite, along with his instinctive response to what he sees. Idk if he was responsible for any of the big plays but he looked seriously sharp.

Brandon Stephens looks like he’s gonna be a player too.

Oweh is gonna be a menace, he is literally just out there running circles around everyone and blowing plays up, tackles are terrified of his speed and it’s noticeable, let this man develop an inside counter and it’s over, but more importantly IMO he looks like he’s gonna be a stud LB, he is an absolute monster running in space, pursuing, blowing up the POA, tackling, even in coverage he looks like he could be a force to be reckoned with.

  • Our OTs were trash. Stanley gets a pass because he's going to need time to reacclimate after the knee injury, but Villanueva had one of the worst performances you'll ever see. Leave him in Vegas as I'm sure some of the Vegas attractions could use some more turnstiles.
  • Wink called a terrible game and I'm not sure what the fuck we were trying to do on defense. Why would you continue to blitz the house when we weren't getting there anyway? Tavon was getting abused and we didn't have a single answer for Waller all night. Only positive for the D was that our run defense was solid and we were tackling pretty well.
  • Roman seemingly abandoned the run game in the second half. Not sure if it was because Williams was banged up or not, but that's inexcusable when our pass blocking couldn't hold up. Both our coordinators need to do better, going forward.
  • Lamar was great, at times, but I felt like he was starting to press in the second half and trying to win the game on his own. At the very least, he needs to protect the ball better if he goes into solo mode. Can't be coughing the ball up to the other team in crucial situations.
  • Why the fuck does Mark Andrews never come up with the clutch catch? Aside from being a non-factor for much of the game, the one catch that could have led to a game-winning drive, he drops. He repeatedly fails in these situations and it's very frustrating to watch.
  • Oweh looks like a beast. Very raw, obviously, but if he can put it together then he will be a force in this league.
  • Watkins and Hollywood had good games last night. I'm very excited for our WR group this year when we can get Bateman on the field. I just hope that we can sort out our OL before then.

Get someone off someone’s practice squad. We will not win many games this year with him at tackle . Now I know why Steelers fans were delighted we picked him up. Imagine the Browns and Steelers pass rush now -we will lose all 4 games with him there .
get boyle back to help him.

I still see us as a playoff team as the OL will jell, but we will be starting the season off 0-2 most likely.

I'm revoking everyone's #SIIE powers for the remainder of the season. Go ahead and say I'm overreacting and give me a dislike, but the season is over. This offensive line was the very reason I didn't feel as optimistic going into this season and it unfortunately proved me right.

Disgust isn't even the word I'm looking for, but fuck it, season is over. I'm heading to the Pit of Misery for the remainder of the week. Come if you like, but fuck this shit.
you are definitely going to the pit of misery and I'm taking my Admin powers into effect and overriding you on #SIIE powers.

I try not to overreact to one game but after hearing how much AV struggled in camp and now seeing it live, you have to consider the idea that he’s burnt. I wouldn’t completely say that based on week 1 but if this type of play continues you have to start lining up contingency plans. It was a dreadful performance.
we do have a contingency plan, but he isn't available until later in the year at the earliest. He may not be available until next season.

I just don't see it. I could easily see a 500 record this year. I would love to see Mahomes behind our offensive line. He would look like he did
against Tampa bay in the Super Bowl.

What was Phillips injury. I didn't get a chance to watch the game until the 4th quarter.

I remember seeing tweets like this during camp and thinking “ooooh shit! We finally found a pass rusher!”

Then preseason games happen and we were wondering where’s the Oweh we keep hearing about!?

Now we see why he was standing out. Was just going up again Villa.

tbf oweh also looked like our most dangerous pass rusher in the opener too - probably a bit of both

I’m just wondering how the line can “gel” if AV sucks ass. There’s no amount of time that’ll fix that

Yeah while Oweh won’t be a 5 sack a game guy like Chandler Jones this year, he’ll still be pretty solid for a raw rookie. Again, if he was a close to finished product the guy would’ve been a top 10 pick

Haha yeah he look pretty good today. I was just using this to point out... THAT VILLA SUCKS ASS!!! Fool got beat every way imaginable! Spin move, bull rush, speed rush.. doesn’t matter. You get a QB pressure! You get a QB pressure! *Oprah voice*

Stay your ass in Vegas. Just let Ricard play RT at this point!
